  • Patent number: 4197473
Abstract: A voltage regulator and brush assembly for an alternator has a body of the voltage regulator mounted on a housing of the brush assembly. A screw passes through an apertured flange at one end of the body of the voltage regulator and engages in a screw threaded hole in a recessed surface on the housing of the brush assembly. At the other end of the body of the voltage regulator there are provided two tongues which define a slot having an inwardly tapering free end. A recess facing the fixing screw is provided in the brush housing and the tongues engage in the recess so that the slot between the tongues abuts against a correspondingly shaped shoulder in the recess whereby when the screw is tightened the tongues engage in the recess with a wedging action which provides a firm, vibration-free connection between the voltage regulator and the brush housing.

  • Patent number: 4196737
Abstract: There is disclosed a transcutaneous electrode construction for the application of electrical pulses to a patient, such as might be employed in pain therapy. The electrode construction includes a base member comprising a sheet of nonconductive material having an adhesive coating on one surface. A thin liquid impervious nonconductive sheet of smaller surface area than the base member is centrally affixed thereto on the adhesive coated surface so as to be entirely surrounded by the adhesive coating. A sponge pad overlies the liquid impervious sheet and has a larger surface area than the liquid impervious sheet so that its peripheral edges engage and adhere to the adhesive of the base member while leaving sufficient adhesive surface exposed for adhering to the skin of the patient. Due to the fact that the sponge pad is adhered to the base member only about the edges thereof, a chamber or pocket is formed between the sponge pad and the impervious sheet for receiving a quantity of electrolytic gel.

  • Patent number: 4194430
Abstract: A thread-forming screw has a point or lead thread portion having a relatively steep entry angle with respect to the screw axis. Adjacent to the point thread is a tapered thread portion of about two to three pitches in axial length. This tapered thread has a shallow entry angle defined by the taper of the maximum diameter of the thread toward the point. This shallow entry angle may be approximately 5.degree. to 8.degree. or equal to about three times the helix angle of the tapered thread. This configuration of the tapered thread results in a balanced action of thread formation and axial in-feed of the screw, resulting in a lower end pressure to initiate the thread-forming in a workpiece. A roll-threading die is contoured to provide ridges and valleys to effect the tapered thread portion.

  • Patent number: 4194850
Abstract: A pivotal mounting arrangement, which may be used for mounting a lamp on a vehicle body, comprises a plastics body having an integral boss provided with a hexagonal inwardly tapering recess therein. A socket element formed from a spring steel sheet has a cup-shaped central portion and six arms extending integrally upwardly therefrom. Outwardly projecting portions extend from the arm and the distance between opposed portions is greater than the corresponding dimension of the recess. A ball integral with one end of a screw-threaded rod is engaged in the socket element before the latter is forced fully into the recess. When disposed in position in the recess, the arms of the socket element are deformed inwardly and hold the ball captive while allowing same to rotate relative to the socket element. This arrangement permits the boss to be formed out of a material which can be relatively rigid because the boss itself need not be resilient.

  • Patent number: 4193245
Abstract: There is disclosed a door frame construction, preferably of metal, which comprises cross channel members assembled perpendicularly with a pair of parallel upright channel members to form a rectangular frame. The respective channel members are held in assembled squared relation by a novel type of joint construction, which joint includes a pair of elongate slots formed in ones of the channel members which slots cooperating receive first detent members formed on the other of the channel members. The first detent members prevent disassembly of the joined channel member in a generally lateral direction. In addition, said slot also cooperates with second detent members received therein, which preclude relative pivotal movement between the assembled channel members and thereby serve to maintain the channel members in squared relation.
