Patent number: 7738145Abstract: A scanner has a plurality of cameras positioned around an object to be scanned. The object is illuminated by unstructured light and the object is covered by a textured surface. The cameras can be arranged as pairs and each camera pair is supported on a single support. The scanned object can be a foot, among other things, and the scanner is positioned at a predetermined incline so that the foot is evenly supported. Method for attaching the camera pairs on the support, method for calibrating the camera pairs and method of scanning the foot to provide shoe sizes and shoe lasts are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2009Date of Patent: June 15, 2010Assignee: Acushnet CompanyInventors: Hamid Pishdadian, Richard A. Genga, Jr., Alan Schinazi, Justin W. Sirotin

Patent number: 7706028Abstract: A scanner has a plurality of cameras positioned around an object to be scanned. The object is illuminated by unstructured light and the object is covered by a textured surface. The cameras can be arranged as pairs and each camera pair is supported on a single support. The scanned object can be a foot, among other things, and the scanner is positioned at a predetermined incline so that the foot is evenly supported. A positioning system, either visual or automatic, is included on the scanner platform. If automatic, a sensor array is affixed to the platform such that a scan will only initiate when certain sensors or combinations of sensors are ON. Method for attaching the camera pairs on the support, method for calibrating the camera pairs and method of scanning the foot to provide shoe sizes and shoe lasts are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2005Date of Patent: April 27, 2010Assignee: Acushnet CompanyInventors: Hamid Pishdadian, Richard A. Patent number: 7547746Abstract: The present invention relates generally to golf balls containing a centipede polymer in one or more core layers, one or more cover layers, one or more intermediate layers.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2006Date of Patent: June 16, 2009Assignee: Acushnet CompanyInventors: Michael J. Sullivan, Derek A. Ladd

Patent number: 7530908Abstract: The present invention is directed to multi-layer golf balls having a center, a cover layer, and at least one intermediate layer between the core and the cover layer. The core, the at least one intermediate layer and the cover are constructed to have different initial velocities and COR such that the gradient of the initial velocities and COR progress from a faster center to a slower cover.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2007Date of Patent: May 12, 2009Assignee: Acushnet CompanyInventors: Herbert C. Boehm, Michael J. Sullivan, Steven Aoyama, David A. Bulpett, Derek A. Ladd

Patent number: 6802784Abstract: A golf ball containing a layer, which comprises nanosheets of exfoliated graphite dispersed in a polymeric matrix, is provided. Exfoliated graphite is graphite that has been intercalated preferably by an oxidation process, where the atoms or molecules have been inserted into the inter-planar spacing between the layered planes of carbons, and expanded. The intercalated graphite is expanded or exfoliated preferably by brief exposure to high heat to expand the thickness of the graphite. The expanded or exfoliated graphite is then mixed with monomers and polymerized in situ to form a polymer with a network of nanosheets of the exfoliated graphite dispersed therein. The exfoliated graphite advantageously retains its nanostructure during the polymerization process. The resulting golf ball layer comprising such polymer with nanosheets of exfoliated graphite exhibits superior tensile strength, low permeability to gas and increased impact strength.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 2002Date of Patent: October 12, 2004Assignee: Acushnet CompanyInventors: Michael J. Sullivan, Derek A. Ladd

Patent number: 6533682Abstract: A golf ball with a precise spin rate is disclosed. The distribution of weight among the layers within the golf ball relative to a centroid radius is realized to precisely control the moment of inertia of the ball. In accordance to one aspect of the present invention, the innermost core of the ball is made from a specific gravity reduced material, and a thin dense layer is accurately located either inside or outside of the centroid radius to create a high spin ball or a low spin ball, respectively, with a high compression and soft feel.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2001Date of Patent: March 18, 2003Assignee: Acushnet CompanyInventor: Michael J. Sullivan

Patent number: 6494795Abstract: A golf ball with a precise spin rate is disclosed. The distribution of weight among the layers within the golf ball relative to a centroid radius is realized to precisely control the moment of inertia of the ball. In accordance to one aspect of the present invention, a high spin rate golf ball with a dense center, which is positioned radially inside of the centroid radius, and a low specific gravity mantle is provided. In accordance to another aspect of the present invention, a low spin rate golf ball with an inner core and a thin dense layer disposed radially outside of the centroid radius is provided.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2001Date of Patent: December 17, 2002Assignee: Acushnet CompanyInventor: Michael J. Sullivan

Patent number: 6390934Abstract: A method of automatically calculating the spatial relationship of a plurality of diffuse dots on a ball, comprising the automated steps of obtaining at least two ball images of the ball at two or more discrete times; calculating a first gray level of the image; smoothing and binarizing the image; locating and determining the number of ball images in the image; locating and determining the number of diffuse dots on each ball image; confirming that the calculated number of dots equals a predetermined number of dots on each ball image; and calculating movement characteristics of the ball.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2001Date of Patent: May 21, 2002Assignee: Acushnet CompanyInventors: Douglas C. Winfield, William Gobush, Diane Pelletier

Patent number: 6371870Abstract: A solid golf ball comprising a solid core, an encapsulating coating having a thickness of about 0.001 to 0.01 inches and a cast polyurethane outer cover layer. The cast outer cover layer is comprised of a prepolymer and a curing agent, wherein the prepolymer is made from a polyol selected from the group of polyether, polyester and polylactone and a diisocyanate selected from the group of 4,4′-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) and 3,3′-dimethyl-4,4′-biphenylene diisocyanate (TODI) and toluene diisocyanate (TDI). The encapsulating coating is a thermosetting latex material that is applied to the solid core through a solution.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2001Date of Patent: April 16, 2002Assignee: Acushnet CompanyInventors: John Calabria, Dean A.
