  • Patent number: 5621186
Abstract: A soft nose, bonded lead core bullet for rifles and pistols and a method of making the bullets is disclosed. The bullets have a jacket of copper based material with a solid base portion and an upper nose portion having a cavity in which the lead core is located and bonded to the walls of the cavity. The walls of the cavity decrease in width away from the base and curves inwardly to form an ogive shape. The jacket increases in hardness and strength from the upper end of the cylindrical wall to the base of the bullet. The cylindrical wall has an outer lip between 0.012 and 0.020 inches wide and the ratio of the lip thickness to the bottom cavity wall thickness is about 0.18-0.20 for rifle bullets and about 0.3-0.4 for pistol bullets.

  • Patent number: 5609440
Abstract: An underwater pipeline is disclosed that arrests the propagation of a collapse or buckle that may occur as the pipeline is being laid or after the pipeline is in service. The pipeline comprises a plurality of joints of pipe connected end-to-end by a threaded connection. Each connection includes external cylindrical threads of opposite hand on adjacent ends of the pipe joints. A coupling having right and left-hand threads for moving the ends of the pipe joints into abutting position in sealing engagement with a seal ring to seal the connection. The connection provides a physical discontinuity in the pipeline to stop the propagation of a buckle in the pipeline. Additionally, by virtue of the thread profile, the coupling may provide radial support to the pin members to resist collapse.

  • Patent number: 5603120
Abstract: An attachment for a headgear having a flap depending therefrom to display an image and also providing a sun shield for the neck of the wearer. The attachment includes a flat strip that is preferably extruded from low density polyethylene material. Thus, it is pliable with plastic memory so that it tries to straighten out when curled in a suitable arc for matching the contour of a hatband. For headgear having a standard hatband, slitted tabs at opposite ends of the strip are separated so that the U-shaped tongue of each tab goes over the top of the hatband into the pocket therebehind. The attachment can also be secured to the webbing of a hard hat by slipping webbing straps through the slitted tab ends of the attachment strip. No special connection parts are required to be included in the headgear and the attachment is not size sensitive, but can be used in almost any size of headgear.

  • Patent number: 5595253
Abstract: There is disclosed a double acting hydraulic jar of such construction as to permit it to be "short cocked" during either an up or down jar, and further in which flow past a detent in metered in such a way as to permit lesser flow therepast during an upward jar than during a downward jar, whereby the rate of movement of the detent ring through a restriction, and thus the "delay", may be essentially the same during both up and down jars.

  • Patent number: 5587113
Abstract: An apparatus for aerating polluted water is disclosed herein. The apparatus includes a tubular section defining a primary chamber having an opening in the side for admission of air from the surrounding atmosphere. A principle distribution chamber for receiving water to be aerated is connected to an upper peripheral edge of the tubular section and delivers water to a plurality of high speed nozzles that deliver accelerated sprays into the primary chamber. A tapering section is connected to a lower peripheral edge of the tubular section. A venturi section is connected to the lower peripheral edge of the tapering section. A single drain pipe including an upper peripheral edge is connected to a lower peripheral edge of the venturi and constitutes the sole outlet of the device. The nozzles create an air water mixture in the primary chamber and are directed toward the venturi to create a suction effect thereby drawing additional air into the primary chamber through the inlet orifice.

  • Patent number: 5575451
Abstract: A ram for a blowout preventer for coil tubing is disclosed. It includes a ram body having a flat face with a semi-circular cavity therein for engaging the flat face of an oppositely facing ram having a semi-circular cavity in its face. A seal member is carried by the ram to engage a seal member carried by the opposite facing ram to prevent the flow of fluid between the rams and a section of coil tubing extending vertically between the rams and encircled by the semi-circular cavities in the faces of the rams. An integral elastomeric pipe guide is carried by the ram to urge the tubing to the center of the preventer. A plurality of slip segments are mounted on the ram in the semi-circular cavity on opposite sides of the seal member to engage the tubing and hold the tubing from moving downwardly or upwardly relative to the ram.

  • Patent number: 5558408
Abstract: Disclosed is an air-applied, mechanically-held brake assembly and a vehicle air brake system employing the same. The air brake system typically includes a push-pull or hand-brake valve for park and emergency applications, a treadle valve for service applications, reservoirs of air under pressure, and other valving and plumbing. The brake assembly applies and releases the brake upon the supply and exhaust, respectively, of air from a first pressure chamber. The brake assembly locks and unlocks the brake in an applied position by the exhaust and supply, respectively, of air from a second pressure chamber. The locking mechanism of the brake assembly is designed to compound the force of the fluid pressure in the first pressure chamber with the force of the fluid pressure supplied to the second pressure chamber when unlocking the brake to compensate for back pressure.

  • Patent number: 5555728
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided that comprise the use of a water-filled vessel having two vertical sections and two horizontal sections that connect the respective upper and lower ends of the vertical sections. A sprocket is mounted for rotation with a horizontal output shaft in one of the horizontal sections, and an idler pulley is mounted for rotation in the other horizontal section. An endless drive chain carrying a plurality of gas receptacles, or buckets encircles the sprocket and the idler pulley within the vessel. A gas inlet is positioned at the bottom of the vessel such that a portion of the gas entering the vessel enters the open ends of the downwardly facing buckets and forces part of the water out of the buckets. The hydrostatic pressure of the water exerts an upward buoyant force on the gas in the bucket moving the bucket upwardly.

  • Patent number: 5540121
Abstract: A tool for use in opening a locked door from its outer side by means of a rotatable doorknob on the inner side of the door is provided. The tool comprises an arm having a cup rotatably carried thereby and a handle manipulable from the outer side of the door. The cup is collapsible to permit it to pass with the arm under the door, but is normally expanded to a shape enabling it to fit over the doorknob. When the cup is passed with the arm beneath the door, the arm and the cup may be rotated by the handle to a position in which the open side of the cup is opposite the doorknob and then drawn back by the handle toward the inner side of the door to permit the cup to fit over the doorknob. Means are attached to the cup that is operable from the outer side of the door to cause the cup to grip and then rotate the doorknob to permit the door to be opened.
