  • Patent number: 8296442
Abstract: A communication server implements a method that minimizes bandwidth usage between a media device and the communication server in a communication system where separate session and floor control protocols are used. Where multiple clients have established separate sessions to access a media source at a media device and upon determining that the multiple clients are attempting to access the same media source, the communication server implements floor control logic to tie multiple floor arbiters together across the separate sessions to cause a single media stream to be sent from the media source and received at the communication server for distribution to the clients, thereby minimizing the bandwidth on the uplink between the media device and the communication server.

  • Patent number: 8208393
Abstract: To perform a channel inspection, a wireless communication device: monitors a common announcement channel (CACH) until detecting that a first set of identified parameters associated with a signal on a first channel matches a second set of known parameters for the first channel; performs an inspection on the first channel to determine whether the signal is of interest; and when the signal is not of interest, marks the first channel to prevent another inspection from being performed on the first channel until after the channel mark is removed. The communication device then leaves the first channel and continues to monitor the CACH for a change in the first set of identified parameters or an indication of an idle first channel, wherein the communication device removes the channel mark on the first channel.

  • Patent number: 8194629
Abstract: A wireless communication device acquires membership in a predefined group, joins an ad hoc network associated with the predefined group, and joins and participates in a first session established through an infrastructure device for distributing media to the predefined group. If the wireless communication device is a duplicator node for the ad hoc network, then it receives the media from the infrastructure device and distributes the media other nodes of the ad hoc network, otherwise it receives the media from the duplicator node. The infrastructure device identifies the duplicator node for each ad hoc network associated with the predefined group and each member of the predefined group that is not a node of any of the ad hoc networks and distributes the media only to these members of the predefined group.

  • Patent number: 8184618
Abstract: A GGSN receives a request associated with a session creation for a mobile entity. The GGSN begins a process (a four-way handshake) for obtaining network access configuration parameters for the mobile entity and responds to the request prior to the completion of the four-way handshake. The GGSN then completes the four-way handshake. A GGSN creates an association between a first IP address and a first mobile entity and thereafter requests an IP address for a second mobile entity. In response thereto, the GGSN receives the first IP address, which the GGSN declines for the second mobile entity and reserves for the first mobile entity. The GGSN requests an IP address for the second mobile entity a second time and receives a second IP address that is different from the first IP address.

  • Patent number: 8169369
Abstract: A frequency generation unit (FGU) in a communication device includes a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), an adjustable filter having a capacitive element for wideband operation, a current source with variable gain, and chirp generation control circuitry (CGC) that is used to generate location signals. The FGU receives, from a reference device, at least one location signal control parameter that defines linear frequency slope characteristics for a location signal. The CGC configures, based on the at least one location signal control parameter, the gain and a polarity of the current source to generate a first current during a first time period for charging the capacitive element to generate a control signal that is coupled to the VCO to generate a first part of the location signal having the defined linear frequency slope characteristics, wherein the first part of the location signal is transmitted using a transceiver of the communication device.

  • Patent number: 8139613
Abstract: To perform channel inspection, a wireless communication device conducts a full inspection on a first channel carrying a first signal that includes: determining a location of a first synchronization message; and determining whether the first signal is of interest. Upon determining that the first signal is not of interest, the first channel is marked, wherein the marking includes remembering the location of the first synchronization message. The device leaves the first channel and determines an expected location of a second synchronization message on the first channel based on the location of the first synchronization message. Upon returning to the first channel which carries a second signal, the communication device conduct a partial inspection that includes: detecting whether the second synchronization message is present at the expected location, wherein the presence of the second synchronization message indicates that the second signal is not of interest.
