Patent number: 7789008Abstract: A suppressor for a firearm includes a first gas expansion section of relatively large size sufficient to reduce the temperature and pressure of the gas expelled from a muzzle during discharge of the firearm to a level that avoids rapid degrading of structural members such as baffles in the suppressor that are downstream of the muzzle. The gas is channeled through multiple paths to distribute its energy more equally. Preferably, the suppressor is formed with a lightweight, thermally-conductive composite portion. The composite portion provides lightweight, bursting strength with good thermal conductivity and little contribution to vibrational instability of the muzzle to which it is attached. The composite portion may be of a carbon fiber, silicon, boron, or metallic base.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2005Date of Patent: September 7, 2010Inventor: Byron S. Petersen

Patent number: 7543493Abstract: A cylindrical collector of the rain gauge has a vertical distinctively colored stripe extending parallel to its vertical axis a focal length from its central axis on the opposite side of the rain gauge from rainfall indications. With this arrangement, the rain water in the rain gauge appears to have the color of a stripe which makes the water height easier to see. An open end of a parallelopiped interface receives the rain and has an area larger than the cross sectional area of the cylindrical collector to which it supplies the rain it receives. The numerals on the rain gauge indicating rainfall are scaled in proportion to the ratio of the area of the open end of the interface and the cross sectional area of the cylinder for easier reading. The parallelopipe design was selected to reduce the size of the shipping container and the dimension perpendicular to the holder is less than the width to permit the gauge to lie flat against a surface for hanging.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2007Date of Patent: June 9, 2009Inventor: Robert C. Patent number: 7532992Abstract: A measuring instrument includes a transducer for measuring the depth of liquid and a transducer for measuring a physical parameter that causes interference error. A calibration polynomial is used to correct the output signal. The calibration polynomial includes the signal generated by the transducers as independent variables and the output signal as the dependent variable. The calibration polynomial is formed by a correction polynomial having at least one primary measurement signal and at least a first interference related signal as independent variables and a calibrated signal as a dependent variable. To form the calibration polynomial, a preliminary calibration polynomial including the primary independent variable and at least one interference related independent variable is developed. A plurality of data sets is generated from a test fixture. This data is used to eliminate the least significant terms of the preparatory calibration polynomial and to add the most significant cross terms.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2006Date of Patent: May 12, 2009Assignee: Teledyne Isco, Inc.Inventor: Phillip B. Patent number: 7419598Abstract: A bubbler is positioned within a solvent reservoir of a chromatographic system with its opening near the bottom of the system to measure the pressure of solvent. The bubbler may use air or may use helium or some other gas so that the solvent can be purged of excess air while its level is being monitored by the bubbler. The bubbler provides a depth signal to a microcontroller that records the drop in pressure and projects a low level of pressure at which point solvent should be replenished. The microprocessor may provide a signal to the operator or terminate operation or automatically replenish solvent depending upon the program.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2005Date of Patent: September 2, 2008Assignee: Teledyne Isco, Inc.Inventor: Dale A. Patent number: 7413659Abstract: To form a smooth gradient and a preparatory liquid chromatographic system having a plurality of syringe type pumps, solvents are alternately drawn and inserted into each cylinder. The solvents are alternately drawn into and through a long narrow path formed of tubing to create axial mixing and spreading out of the interface and then are drawn into the cylinders during the refill stroke of the piston at a sufficiently high velocity to create turbulence. The drawing of the solvents into one side of the cylinder a radial distance from the center creates circular eddy currents.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2006Date of Patent: August 19, 2008Assignee: Teledyne Isco, Inc.Inventors: Robert W. Patent number: 7351334Abstract: A chromatographic monitor includes an array of flow cells with individual light sensors that are collectively an array of photodiodes. The output from the photodiodes are multiplexed. To prevent losing information, the photodiodes are each connected to a different one of a plurality of inputs to the multiplexer through a corresponding one of a plurality of circuits that stores energy during the time the one inlet is not connected through the multiplexer to the signal processing circuitry that forms a part of an absorbance monitor. Preferably, the energy storing circuit is a non-switching circuit with low bandwidth and a flat-topped response to an impulse. This improves the signal to noise ratio. A one pole low pass filter with a (1-1/e) Dirac pulse fall time and equal to the multiplex entire cycle repeat time can perform this function and a one pole low pass filter provides satisfactory results.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2006Date of Patent: April 1, 2008Assignee: Teledyne Isco, Inc.Inventors: Robert W. Patent number: 7195461Abstract: To economically perform preparatory chromatography, a plurality of pumps each having a corresponding one of a plurality of pistons and a corresponding one of a plurality of cylinders are driven by one motor to draw and pump solvent simultaneously into corresponding columns. To form a gradient, the pumps are connected to two-way valves that are connected alternately to a first solvent and a second solvent, whereby the time said valve is in a first position controls the amount of solvent drawn from the first reservoir into said pumps and the amount of time in said second position controls the amount of said second solvent drawn from the second reservoir into said pumps and the solvent is mixed in the pumping systems. The detectors are photodiodes mounted to light guides in the flow cells that generate signals related to light absorbance and communicate with a controller, whereby the controller receives signals indicating solute between the light guides and causes collection of solute.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2004Date of Patent: March 27, 2007Assignee: Teledyne Isco, Inc.Inventors: Robert W. Patent number: 7118357Abstract: A water supply system has its housing and pressure tank sized so that the pressure tank fits within the housing, thus avoiding the need for another separate opening in the ground for the pressure tank. With this arrangement, there is less work in installation of the system and in maintaining the system. A control box for the system can be in the housing near the top where it is accessible or it can be separate. Preferably, the pump will be driven by a variable speed pump or a stop cycle valve will be used. Preferably, the pressure tank has a capacity of less than 40 gallons and the housing has an enlarged portion and a reduced portion with the pressure tank being mounted within said enlarged portion of said housing.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2003Date of Patent: October 10, 2006Inventor: Dwight Eugene Hanson
