  • Patent number: 5325396
Abstract: A subscriber unit for wireless communication with a base station in a wireless subscriber communication system includes a FIR chip, a DIF (digital intermediate frequency) chip, a single processor chip and a radio. The processor chip transcodes a digital voice input signal to provide digital input symbols; demodulates an output signal received from the base station to provide digital output symbols; and synthesizes a digital voice output signal from the digital output symbols. The FIR chip FIR filters the digital input symbols and generates timing signals for timing the transcoding and synthesizing operations in the processor chip. The DIF chip digitally synthesizes a digital intermediate frequency signal by direct digital synthesis (DDS) and modulates the digital intermediate frequency signal with the filtered input symbols to provide a modulated intermediate frequency input signal. The radio further processes the modulated input signal for transmission to the base station.

  • Patent number: 5240733
Abstract: Significant improvements to the milling of wheat kernels are possible by sequentially removing the bran layers of the kernels prior to processing in general accordance with the conventional milling principles. The wheat kernels are preprocessed by means of a number of friction and abrasion operations to peel or strip the various layers of bran from the kernels. A series of friction machines followed by abrasion machines progressively remove the bran layers and separate the same into generally pre-identified bran layer mixtures. Up to about 75% of the bran can be removed with the remaining bran being essentially confined to the kernel crease and removed during the conventional milling operation. Such preprocessed kernels, when milled in the conventional manner, have higher yields due to less bran contamination. This selective removal of the bran layers also facilitates low cost production of specialty bran products or selective reintroduction of bran layers to flour after, or during, further milling.

  • Patent number: 5240763
Abstract: A papermakers fabric and method of designing and manufacturing same which exhibits high tolerance to temperature and/or moisture variation and as a result, retains dimensional stability avoiding these problems. A specific fabric construction is selected having a defined machine direction (MD) and cross machine direction (CMD) yarn components. A mathematical model of the selected fabric structure is then defined in terms of the dimensions of the yarn components in relationship to the machine direction length of the fabric. The percent change in fabric length is then determined as a function of both the dimensions and the expansion characteristics of the MD and CMD yarns. The fabric is then designed to have calculated expansion characteristics within selected tolerances.

  • Patent number: 5218727
Abstract: A lift apparatus for an above ground spa or pool to enable a handicapped or infirm person access to and egress from the spa or pool without the need for an attendant to assist them. The lift comprises an upright base securely mounted adjacent to one wall of the above ground spa. The base supports a lift arm assembly having a seat mounted thereon. Lift and rotate controls are provided to permit the seat occupant to raise the seat to a fully elevated position above the wall of the spa, to swing the seat and occupant across the wall and to lower the seat to a desired height within the spa. The lift arm is powered by water driven hydraulics which are configured such that the seat can only be pivoted when it is in its fully elevated position above the wall of the spa.

  • Patent number: 5053109
Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing paper board includes a hybrid papermakers fabric which facilitates both the formation of an aqueous paper board web and the dewatering of the formed web through at least one press nip. The papermakers fabric includes a woven, single-layer base fabric having a seam with a layer of fibrous batt material needled to at least one side. Each end of the base fabric has vertically oriented loops formed from the machine direction yarns of the base fabric. The base fabric seam is defined by intermeshing the respective end loops together and inserting a joining wire or pintle through the intermeshed loops. The caliper of the body of the single-layer base fabric is inherently slightly less than the caliper of the seam. In order to reduce the effect of the seam area on the paper board manufacturing process, the end loops of the base fabric may be elongated and may contain stuffer yarns.
