  • Patent number: 8140864
Abstract: A computer system encrypts write-data to be written to the volume in response to a write command. The system transmits a rekey command from host computer system to the storage system when the key data stored in the host key data memory is changed to second key data. The storage system receives the rekey command transmitted from host computer system and stores the first and second key data contained in the received rekey command to a volume key data memory of the storage system. The storage system reads out data encrypted with the first key data from an original block address in the volume. The storage system decrypts the data read out from the volume using the first key data. The storage system encrypts the data decrypted by the first key data using the second key data, and writs the data encrypted with the second key data to the original block address.

  • Patent number: 8051818
Abstract: A dual independent phasing system (DIPS) phaser assembly for coaxial camshafts having two axially stacked, thin phasing subassemblies which are each conventional vane-cell type phaser assemblies is provided. These phasers are preassembled together as a unit to make one DIPS phaser assembly. The rotor of the rear phaser is attached to the outer camshaft of the coaxial cam, and the rotor of the front phaser is attached to the inner camshaft. The radial force from the timing chain or belt is transmitted to the outer camshaft via a chain ring or pulley connected to the stator of the rear phaser. In order to provide for ease of mounting, the DIPS phaser assembly (including the front and rear phasers) is attached to the outer camshaft via mounting bolts which are passed through openings in the rotor of the front phaser in order to attach the rear phaser rotor to the outer camshaft. A central mounting bolt is used to connect the front phaser rotor to the inner camshaft.

  • Patent number: 7411918
Abstract: A method for performing dynamic link adaptation by a user equipment (UE) in a cellular system, the UE having two coded composite transport channels (CCTrCHs) in an uplink time slot begins by estimating a transmit power for a first transport format combination (TFC) and a second TFC, each TFC corresponding to one CCTrCH. The estimated transmit power for the first TFC is compared with a maximum transmit power threshold of the UE, and is blocked if the estimated transmit power exceeds the threshold. The estimated transmit power for the second TFC is compared with the threshold, and is blocked if the estimated transmit power exceeds the threshold. The combined transmit power of the first TFC and the second TFC is compared with the threshold, and one TFC is selectively blocked if the combined transmit power exceeds the threshold, the blocking being based on a predetermined rule.

  • Patent number: 7289469
Abstract: A technique for distributing channel allocation information in a demand access communication system. In a preferred embodiment, for use with Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) type communication, multiple access codes are used that have a defined code repeat period or code epoch. For each such epoch duration, a central controller, such as located at a base station in the case of operating a forward link, determines a schedule of assignment of traffic channels to active terminals for each epoch. For each terminal designated as active during the epoch, an active terminal unit identifier is assigned. For each terminal designated as active during the epoch, the base station assigns a list of active channels for such terminal unit. Prior to the start of each epoch, a channel set up message is sent on one of the forward link channels, such as a paging channel.

  • Patent number: 7242131
Abstract: An ultrasonic motor includes rotors and an annular stator, which are integrated in the rotational direction, a rectangular parallelepiped multilayer piezoelectric transducer, a support shaft, and a transducer with drivers. The support shaft is attached to the outer circumference of the stator and arranged along the radial direction, and the drivers are abutted by a spring urging force to the rotors arranged on both sides of the stator in the axial direction, and are clamped with the rotors. When the transducer is driven so as to excite an elliptical movement produced by combining a bending standing-wave vibration with a longitudinal vibration with the drivers, the rotors are rotated relatively to the stator. Since the drivers are clamped with the integrated rotors, the ultrasonic motor can be driven with small frictional loss and improved conversion efficiency.

  • Patent number: 7126962
Abstract: A code division multiple access user equipment is used in receiving a plurality of data signals over a shared spectrum. Each received data signal experiences a similar channel response. A combined signal of the received data signals is received over the shared spectrum. The combined signal is sampled at a multiple of the chip rate. A channel response is estimated at the multiple of the chip rate. The multiple chip rate estimated channel response is combined as an effective chip rate channel response. A spread data vector is determined using the effective samples, the effective channel response and a fourier transform. Data of the data signals is estimated using the spread data vector.

  • Patent number: 6842440
Abstract: A system and method for wireless communication between a plurality of subscriber units and a base station, the base station communicating information signals from an originating source to a destination subscriber unit over a channel at an assigned one of a plurality of frequencies using repetitive time frames, each said time frame comprising a sequence of time slots. The channel is defined as having the same one or more time slots from the sequence of time slots in one or more of the time frames. The base station includes a central processing unit capable of assigning a duration of time for the information signals being sent to the destination subscriber unit. The duration equals the duration of one or more time slots in the same frame. The central processing unit maintains a memory of which time slots of each time frame have been assigned and provides the time slot assignment, and therefore channel assignment, by consulting said memory.

  • Patent number: 6229843
Abstract: A CDMA modem includes a modem transmitter having: a code generator which provides an associated pilot code signal and which generates a plurality of message code signals; a spreading circuit which produces a spread-spectrum message signal by combining each of the information signals with a respective one of the message code signals; and a global pilot code generator that provides a global pilot code signal to which the message code signals are synchronized. The CDMA modem also includes a modem receiver having an associated pilot code generator and a group of associated pilot code correlators for correlating code-phase delayed versions of the associated pilot signal with a receive CDM signal to produce a despread associated pilot signal. The code phase of the associated pilot signal is changed responsive to an acquisition signal value until a pilot signal is received.

  • Patent number: 6219110
Abstract: Light emitted from a white light source is separated into red, green and blue light beams by dichroic mirrors. The resulting light beams are directed onto a lenticular lens system having large-pitch lenticular lenses and small-pitch lenticular lenses formed on opposed surfaces. This lens system converts the red, green and blue light beams incident on each of the large-pitch lenticular lenses into a color band set consisting of a set of separated subbands of the red, green and blue light beams the diameter of which is narrowed down to one-third or less of that of the incident light beam through the small-pitch lenticular lenses. The resulting color band sets emerging from the small-pitch lenticular lenses are focused onto a DMD panel through a mirror galvanometer and a coupling lens. The mirror galvanometer is rotated in such a way as to move the color band sets over the DMD panel up and down by the amount corresponding to the pitch of the color band sets while the DMD panel is being driven.

  • Patent number: 6148021
Abstract: A spread spectrum noise shaper uses a modulation technique to achieve a greater signal-to-noise or signal-to-interference ratio (SNR or SIR). The technique doubles the system SIR, in principle. This doubling yields a doubling in system capacity. SNR is increased by receiving the spread spectrum signal in the presence of less noise near the edge of the spread spectrum bandwidth. The technique requires only small additions to a conventional spread spectrum system, in the form of an extra modulator at the transmitter, and an extra demodulator and filter at the receiver.

  • Patent number: 6075792
Abstract: A CDMA wireless digital communication system which supports all types of voice and data communications while utilizing the minimum amount of bandwidth for the particular application. The system efficiently allocates ISDN bandwidth on demand by a subscriber. Upon initialization of the subscriber unit, the system establishes a channel and generates the necessary spreading codes to support the highest capacity channel desired by the subscriber unit. Portions of the communication spectrum bandwidth are not reserved until actually required by the subscriber unit. Since the call setup is performed at the beginning of a call from that subscriber unit, including the assignment of spreading codes, a subscriber unit can quickly gain access to the portion of the spectrum that is required to support the particular application.
