  • Patent number: 5925085
Abstract: An apparatus and method for determining and displaying a position of a work implement of a work machine in a site coordinate system is provided. First and second position sensors mounted on the work implement determine the position of the first and second position sensors and produce first and second position signals, respectively. A pitch sensor connected to the work implement senses a pitch of the work implement and responsively produces a pitch signal. A site database contains a digitized model of the work site defined by actual work site data. A controller is coupled to the first and second position sensors and the pitch sensor. The controller receives the first and second position and pitch signals, determines the position of the work implement in the site coordinate system as a function of the first and second position signals and the pitch signal, and updates the actual work site data as a function of the position of the work implement.

  • Patent number: 5875701
Abstract: An apparatus for controllably moving a work implement is disclosed. The implement is connected to a work machine and is moveable in response to operation of a hydraulic cylinder. The apparatus includes an operator controlled joystick. A joystick position sensor senses the position of the joystick and responsively generates an operator command signal. Boom and bucket angle sensors sense the position of the work implement and responsively produces an boom angle signal and a bucket angle signal respectively. A microprocessor based controller receives the boom angle, bucket angle, and operator command signals, modifies the operator command signal, and produces an electrical valve signal in response to the modified operator command signal. An electrohydraulic valve receives the electrical valve signal, and controllably provides hydraulic fluid flow to the hydraulic cylinder in response to a magnitude of the electrical valve signal.

  • Patent number: 5864060
Abstract: The invention is a method for monitoring a work cycle of a mobile machine on a land site. The mobile machine has a bucket and a body that is adapted to rotate about a fixed point of reference. The method includes the steps of determining an angular velocity of the body, determining the body is stopped based on the angular velocity, determining a duration of time the body is stopped, and determining the work cycle in response to the duration of time the body is stopped.
