Abstract: A pharmaceutical composition comprising a crystalline sugar alcohol derived from at least one mono- or polysaccharide having at least one liquid pharmaceutically active compound uniformly dispersed within its crystal matrix is disclosed. Also disclosed is a method of producing such a uniformly dispersed pharmaceutical composition by the controlled crystallization of the molten sugar alcohol having the pharmaceutically active material dispersed therein.
Abstract: A compound contains a ligand group and at least one group of the general formula --XR.sub.n where X is a linking group which contains at least one hetero-atom, R is a saturated hydrocarbyl group containing at least six carbon atoms or is an unsaturated hydrocarbyl group containing at least three carbon atoms. The ligand group can be a polyhydroxyhydrocarbyl, a triazole, an imidazole, an indazole, a thiazole, an oxazole, a carbamate, an xanthate or a phthalazine. The compounds can be used to improve bonding between a metal and a coating material in contact with the metal surface. The metal may be a tire cord and the coating material rubber or a rubber composition.
Abstract: A process for the production of 2,5-dichloro-3-nitrobenzoic acid which comprises reacting 2,5-dichloro-3-nitro-p-xylene in a saturated aliphatic carboxylic acid solvent with oxygen at elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of a catalyst system which comprises a transition metal oxidation catalyst and a bromine promoter.
Abstract: 1,3,5-triacrylylhexahydro-s-triazine is prepared as a solution in excess of about 10 weight percent and in yields of up to about 99 percent of theoretical by reacting acrylonitrile and trioxane with a catalytic amount of an acid having a Hammet activity function (H.sub.o) in excess of about 7.3 utilizing methylene chloride as the reaction medium.
Abstract: The novel compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each either hydrogen or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and maybe the same or different, are useful intermediates in a novel process for the preparation of herbicidally active compounds such as 2,5-dichloro-3-nitro-benzoic acid, 2,5-dichloro-3-amino-benzoic acid and their functional derivatives.
