Abstract: A method is disclosed for preparing a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite from a reaction mixture containing only sufficient water so that the reaction mixture may be shaped if desired. In the method, the reaction mixture is heated at crystallization conditions and in the absence of an external liquid phase, so that excess liquid need not be removed from the crystallized material prior to drying the crystals.
Abstract: Apparatus for clarifying produced water. A flotation chamber has a produced water inlet, a clean water outlet, and is segmented into a plurality of cells by baffles. An oil overflow compartment is in fluid communication with the upper portion of the chamber. Produced gas is introduced into each cell of the flotation chamber by porous sparger tubes creating bubbles of 100 to 1000 microns in diameter. The bubbles rise through the water removing any suspended oil particles. The gas exits through a gas outlet. The removed oil collects on the liquid surface of the produced water and overflows to the overflow compartment. Oil is removed from the overflow compartment via an oil outlet.
Abstract: Gasolines are identified from one another by adding to at least one of the gasolines at least one tagging material which is unique to that gasoline. Each unique tagging material has a number average molecular weight of at least 15,000 and is present at a level of less than 1.0 ppm of the gasoline. In addition, each unique tagging material must be soluble in the composition to be tagged, must not vaporize or thermally degrade at temperatures below about 120.degree. C., must not contribute to degradation of hydrocarbon filterability: and must not contribute to engine harm. A sample of the gasoline is vaporized to form a liquid residue; and the liquid residue is analyzed for the presence of the tagging material in the residue to thereby identify the particular gasoline.

Abstract: An oligomer is made by contacting a straight-chain, .alpha.-olefinic monomer with boron trifluoride and a hydroxy carbonyl promoter. The hydroxy carbonyl is preferably a .beta.-hydroxy-ketone, such as 4-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-pentanone. A second promoter can be used in conjunction with the boron trifluoride and the hydroxy carbonyl promoter. Possible secondary promoters include aldehydes, alcohols, alcohol alkoxylates, carboxylic acids, ethers, ketones, and their mixtures. Preferably the oligomer product has a kinematic viscosity at 100.degree. C. of less than 1.7 cSt; has a dimer to trimer and higher oligomer ratio of at least 1:1; and is at least 90 wt. % dimer and trimer of the monomer.
