  • Patent number: 4445329
Abstract: There is disclosed a throttle control means connected to the throttle which in response to operator input puts the throttle in one of two positions, the first fully open and the second an idle position, a transmission control system including desired speed input means responsive to operator input producing a signal indicative of the drive wheel speed desired by the operator, actual speed means connected to the drive wheels for generating a signal proportional to the road speed of the vehicle, comparing means connected to the desired speed and actual speed means and to the transmission for comparing the desired speed means and the actual speed means and, responsive to results from such comparing, generating a control signal changing the output-to-input speed ratio of the transmission.

  • Patent number: 4438722
Abstract: A magnetic brush (10) comprises a sleeve (16) of nonmagnetic material which rotates about magnets (14) fixed on a shaft (12) which rotates in the opposite direction to the sleeve. A toner container (20) adjacent to the sleeve feeds the toner (T) on to the outer surface of the sleeve through a slit (36) which extends over the entire length of the sleeve. In order to prevent the formation of lumps of toner at the feed slit and break up any lumps already in the container, a portion (32) of the base wall of the toner container is of arcuate shape and is spaced from the sleeve by a distance equal to the thickness of the toner layer (52) on the sleeve. The arcuate wall defines the toner feed slit (36) in cooperation with a side wall (60) of the container. A baffle (26) divides the container into a main chamber (42) and secondary chamber (46) which communicate with each other by way of a narrow passage between the baffle and the arcuate wall (32).

  • Patent number: 4438057
Abstract: Air filter elements employing a block of deep pleated paper and methods of their construction. A preferred filter element comprises top and bottom end members both adapted for through passage of air and a first pair of side walls, a block of deep-pleated paper between the end members and the side walls, connections between adjacent edges of the end members and the side walls, at least two connections being hinged and at least one connection being interengaging elements, sealing structure comprising a second pair of side walls and at least one flange around one end member, the material of which structure rigidifies the connections and forms a seal with the pleated paper. The sealing structure is formed preferably from an elastomer which solidifies in situ.In a preferred method of construction the first side walls are hinged up from the bottom wall around the pleated paper block and connected at the top. The second side walls and end flanges are then formed of elastomeric material.

  • Patent number: 4418869
Abstract: A hose mounted fluid mixing dispenser has a fluid containing bladder inside a bottle. A bottle cap fitting the bottle has a water hose connection, a water passage having a rectilinear portion and a nozzle with an adjustable metering device for introducing fluid from the bladder into the water stream as it passes through the rectilinear portion. A removable plug in the cap permits filling of the bladder. An anti-syphon device is incorporated in the hose connecting portion of the cap. Water fills the space between the bladder and the bottle as the bladder empties, providing a pressure differential to impel fluid into the stream.

  • Patent number: 4405459
Abstract: An oily water separator which has a plurality of parallel corrugated plates between which the oil/water mixture is constrained to flow, adjacent plates being separated by spacing forms smoothly shaped to provide substantially laminar flow therepast in a direction generally transverse to the corrugations, each spacing form being positioned between two plates at a crest or at a trough in the corrugations and having a leading edge serving to divide the flow therepast at said crest or trough, which edge extends generally tangentially to the said crest or trough of one of the respective plates.

  • Patent number: 4394145
Abstract: An air cleaner comprising a housing, a plurality of tubular dust separator elements arranged in the housing for generally straight-through flow from one end of the housing to the other, the housing defining around the separator elements a dust collecting chamber. Each separator element has vanes for imparting spin to the air entering it and a circumferential exit of limited angular extent to the dust collecting chamber at a position where the air has substantial circumferential speed. The exits, the direction of spin, and baffles (if any) being arranged to avoid conflicting air flows in the chamber and to ensure that air movement in the chamber outside the exit is in the same direction as air movement within it. Preferably the separator elements impart left and right handed spin to air passing through them, with elements of opposite hand adjacent.

  • Patent number: 4385306
Abstract: The head is composed of a series of electrically conductive elements in one or more rows, which elements are selectively subjected to a high potential relative to the coacting electrode. The elements have a thickness of less than to 50.mu. and a pitch less than 100.mu.. The elements may be disposed in a plurality of rows on a cylindrical, rotatable head.In a modified embodiment the elements are disposed on the edge of a plate, in a row extending over the length of the line.

  • Patent number: 4364206
Abstract: The invention provides prefabricated building units for constructing buildings. Each unit consists of a structure having the shape of a right prism comprising a lower frame, an upper frame and uprights having a V-shaped section. In general a building unit also comprises an upper wall and a lower wall connected to the top portion of the upper frame and lower frame respectively. Each of these walls forms with the frame which supports it an empty box open at the bottom. The joining by bolting together superposed and/or juxtaposed building units constitutes the fabric of a building.

  • Patent number: 4359748
Abstract: A device for non impact printing of alpha-numeric characters on a sheet of normal paper, wherein an electrically conducting carrier is covered with an inking substance which is transferred to the paper by means of electrical pulses. The inked carrier is movable and is disposed against the paper on the opposite side to a print head provided with a plurality of electrodes and movable with a translatory motion with respect to the paper. The inked carrier passes through an inking station in which a series of rollers take ink from a container and, with a metered action, spread it on the carrier, thus renewing the efficiency of the layer of ink.

  • Patent number: 4358960
Abstract: Proximity sensor for determining the distance between a reflective surface and the sensor utilizes two output light guides positioned with the receiving end of one guide closer to the reflective surface than that of the other. When the surface is close to the guide ends a relatively greater intensity of light will be reflected to the second guide; when the surface is further away a relatively greater intensity of light will be reflected to the first guide. At a predetermined intermediate null position the reflected light intensities will be equal. The device has uses, inter alia, in accurately positioning objects without wear-producing contact, e.g. in numerically controlled machine tool operations; thickness sensing or thickness controlling using single or dual sensors; force sensing; liquid level indication; meter relay actuation; rotational limitation, and the like.

  • Patent number: 4356819
Abstract: An article of manufacture with adhesive properties comprising a gelatinous adhesive composition dispersed in a plastics matrix. The gelatinous adhesive composition is the resulting product of heating together in the absence of solvent at least one polyhydric alcohol and at least one material selected from the group consisting of gelatin, naturally occurring high molecular weight polysaccharide gums, and resins which are a copolymer of a vinyl ether and a second component selected from organic acid anhydrides and their corresponding free acids. Heating promotes a chemical reaction between the components and also drives off water produced in the reaction which is carried substantially to completion.
