  • Patent number: 4716324
Abstract: This disclosure relates to the art of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) energy generation and is particularly directed to improvements in energy generating apparatus useful in that art providing a generating channel presenting in at least a portion of its confining surface a movable wall resistant to erosion and other deterioration under the action of high temperature gaseous fluids and solid particles carried thereby in generating electric energy by their high velocity movement through a magnetic field.

  • Patent number: 4155790
Abstract: This invention constitutes an improvement upon the existing practice of manufacturing reinforced automotive heater hose and the like in a continuous operation which comprises continuously extruding an elastomeric tube, continuously applying to the outer surface of the tube an appropriate reinforcing layer of textile yarns or the like, continuously extruding over the reinforcing layer an elastomeric covering layer, and continuously curing the elastomeric components in an elongated chamber containing heat exchange elements the improvement residing in the provision of a method and means for elongating within certain limits the uncured or partially cured hose during the curing process whereby reduction of pressure and temperature within the extruding units and other advantages in production of reinforced automotive heater hose and the like may be realized.

  • Patent number: 4074917
Abstract: The increasing popularity of on-premises purchase and consumption of confections, pastries and the like, and especially that of pizza pie, has created a demand for a serving implement or utensil with the aid of which articles may be manipulated for eating or other purposes, without involving contact of the hand or glove of the user and the present invention is directed to a serving implement comprising a pair of hinged leaves which may be actuated through linkage connected with hand-held actuating elements, as for grasping a portion of an article to hold it securely while it is being consumed or otherwise disposed of, the linkage being arranged to close the leaves upon an object in response to a squeezing action or contraction of the fingers against the actuating elements, while release of such contraction causes the implement's leaves to retract automatically allowing them to open and to remain open in their natural position.

  • Patent number: 4007965
Abstract: This invention relates to the recovery of valuable minerals from deposits thereof in the earth and is particularly directed to a method of mining which affords recovery of at least a major portion of a seam of valuable mineral lying relatively near the surface of the earth without seriously involving the destructive effects upon the environment, inherent in surface mining. In practicing the method a relatively small proportion of the overburden covering a seam of useful mineral is removed, for later replacement, and a proportion of the valuable mineral in the seam much greater than that underlying the removed overburden is recovered by operations conducted in the pit formed by removal of overburden from selected areas, the recovery of these portions of the mineral seam being conveniently accomplished by what is known as augur mining from spaced pits disposed in predetermined patterns relatively to the mineral seam.
