  • Patent number: 5774558
Abstract: An apparatus for the representation of the sound of the human voice as an image in which individual colors correspond to distinct loudness levels. Sound received by a transducer is converted into electric signals, amplified, processed and transmitted to light emitting diodes which are arrayed in groups according to the color of the light they are emitting. Different groups are programmed to emit light when they are energized by signals reflecting different loudness levels. The display in which the colors change as the loudness varies provides a continuous feedback in real time by showing a speaker instantaneously how loud he speaks.

  • Patent number: 5735094
Abstract: An ornamental coating and process for applying the coating to a substrate includes mixing a first batch of liquid mortar composed of sand, cement and an aqueous solution of acrylic resin, and trowelling or spraying a first layer of the liquid mortar onto the substrate and allowing the liquid mortar to cure. A second batch of liquid mortar is mixed which is the same as the first except that it contains a color pigment contrasting with the color of the first batch. A template defining a pattern of grout lines is placed over the cured first batch and the second batch of liquid mortar is trowelled or sprayed over the first batch and the template as a second layer and allowed to cure only to the extent that the second layer is firm, but not hard. The template is then removed, removing any part of the second layer immediately above the template thus exposing lines of the cured first batch which then appear as grout lines between areas of colored mortar which appear as bricks, flagstone or tiles etc.

  • Patent number: 5718648
Abstract: An improved hockey puck particularly for street or court play has a cylindrical body and includes on each of its pair of planar faces three or more pistons or deflectable members attached to the puck body and extending above the face surfaces and acting as the sliding surfaces for the puck. Vertical forces applied to this puck are absorbed by springs or other resilient members supporting the pistons allowing the puck to slide with a minimized tendency to roll. In another embodiment, a plurality of resiliently mounted balls absorb vertical forces.

  • Patent number: 5678880
Abstract: An attachment to a vehicle sunshade/visor, used to provide additional eye protection to the driver and/or front seat passenger from the sun and glare and the skin from ultra violet rays. The attachment extends below the existing visor and/or the side to protect the area between the existing visor and the rear view mirror. The attachment may also provide additional protection to the side of the vehicle, below and to the rear to cover the area not protected by the existing visor. The attachment is easily manipulated by one hand and folds up behind the existing visor when not required.

  • Patent number: 5664769
Abstract: A gate assembly for tensioned fences, particularly those which encircle home swimming pools and are removable for swimming pool use. The gate in its preferred form is "U" shaped with no rigid bar at the top and has the space between the bars of the gate filled with tensioned mesh fabric similar to the tensioned fence. The gate is supported by poles on each edge which provides spring closed hinging on one edge and an automatic latch at the opposite edge. The poles are in fact pairs of poles at each side which together react to the tension of the fence without transferring the fence tension to the gate. In one form, the two poles at each edge are rigidly connected by bars which define a truss. The gate supporting poles are secured to the pole decking as by insertion in drilled holes which are at cant angles in the order of 5.degree. away from the direction of the fence tension. A process for installing the fence and gate is described.

  • Patent number: 5632426
Abstract: A holster is disclosed employing a formed composite of fabric-foam and fabric in which the outer face is formed to match the contour of a hand gun to carried in the holster while the inner face is generally flat. A belt loop assembly is secured to the inner face including a generally "Y" shape with an opening between the arms of the "Y". Hook or pile fastener fabric is located within the belt loop assembly. A thumb break or strap includes an end which extends through the opening into the belt loop and is held in place by contact with the hook and pile fastener. The thumb break is angularly adjustable within the belt loop and securable at various angles by the hook and pile fastener. The belt loop assembly, most importantly defines a belt loop and the thumb break and the hook and pile fastener cooperate to restrict the size of the belt loop and provide restriction against unwanted movement of the holster on a belt.

  • Patent number: 5626211
Abstract: A disk or rotor for a disk brake system is formed of a number of stacked metal plates, normally with outside plates having a high resistance to abrasion and great strength and with inner plates formed of metal having good heat transfer characteristics and having inside and outside rims and generally radially directed slots between the rims, the inner plates being aligned such that the slots are held in registry, and all of the inner and outer plates are brazed together to form a unitary disk. Inside and outside diameters are then both trimmed to remove the rims and open the slots between fins formed when the inside and outside rims are cut away. One or more outside plates on one end of the stack are trimmed to a smaller diameter thus leaving a flange which is drilled to provide mounting holes for the disk. Modified forms of the disk include solid inside plates and inside plates with perforations or corrugations.

  • Patent number: 5623858
Abstract: A machine for chamfering and otherwise finishing workpieces such as metal rods or tubes includes a base with a drive and spindle assembly, an assembly for securing a workpiece in position and an air-electric control system carried on the base. The drive and spindle assembly includes a housing carrying a rotatable spindle with a cutter, a quill surrounding said spindle and a cylinder with a piston connected to the quill for moving the spindle and quill axially. The drive structure includes an electric motor and a variable speed transmission. The control system includes a pedal for connecting high pressure air to operate the spindle. A vise and stop assembly secures a workpiece in position and includes an actuator connected to the control system and coordinated with the control system piston to secure the workpiece in position before cutting. Manual translation of the quill and spindle is also provided for through a gear and rack on the quill meshed to translate the quill while the piston is inoperative.

  • Patent number: 5613536
Abstract: A faceplate for lathes and the like is fabricated of a polymeric material and having a body with a cylindrical surface of substantial depth and indicia marks on the cylindrical surface. The body is turnable just like workpieces on the lathe. The faceplate has a planar front face which is turnable to provide recesses for chucking a workpiece. In one embodiment designed to employ fasteners such as screws to hold the workpiece in place, the body is of one color and the fasteners are located in inserts of contrasting color. The faceplate is intended to be turned. If any chips of the contrasting color appear, the user knows instantly that further turning will cause the chisel to strike the fasteners.

  • Patent number: 5614941
Abstract: A system is disclosed for creating stereoscopic images from multiple sources from predetermined lateral directions for forming the multiple images onto a multiple image plane and converging the images into multiple superimposed images on a viewing screen. The viewing screen employs a Fresnel lens and a lenticular lensed surface with horizontal lenticules. No glasses are needed, by one or more persons, to view stereoscopic 3-dimensional images. The source of the multiple images may be multiple cameras, composite multiple image film, video signals, or computer-generated images. In one embodiment, the multiple images are projected each by a respective substantially identical lens and through a folded optical reflective system to a restricted viewing opening in the system housing.

  • Patent number: 5609893
Abstract: A temperature and molding material pressure compensated probe for use in injection molding apparatus. The probe includes a two-part telescoping body with a molding material filled space therebetween. Longitudinal thermal expansion which formerly presented sealing problems only results in changes in the extent of telescoping overlap. Molding material pressure is applied equally to both probe parts tending to improve sealing. The molding material filled space has a greater transverse area than all outlets and passages.
