Patent number: 6545756Abstract: The present invention pertains to the construction of analytic instruments and can be used for analyzing natural and industrial water, biological samples, geological samples and air. The purpose of this invention is to reduce substantially the power used by the atomizer and the analyzer, and to increase the number of objects that can be analyzed. To this end, the method for the thermionic atomization of a sample involves carrying out an ionic sputtering of the sample from the cathode in a low-pressure discharge. The cathode is heated by the discharge to a temperature of between 800 and 1400° C., while the ballast gas consists of Kr or Xe under a gas pressure of 10 to 15 torrs. The thermionic atomization device includes an atomizer arranged in a gas-discharge chamber filled with an inert gas. The atomizer is made in the form of a hollow, cylindrical, metallic and thin-wall cathode.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2001Date of Patent: April 8, 2003Inventors: Alexandr Akhatovich Ganeev, Sergei Evgenievich Sholupov

Patent number: 6518567Abstract: The present invention pertains to the construction of analytical instruments and may be used for analysing naturel or industrial waters, biological samples as well as geological samples. The method for detecting elements in solutions comprises pulverising the samples using pulses, ionising the pulverised atoms during Penning's collisions and recording the ions thus formed during a mass spectral analysis while carrying out a separation of the ion time-of-flight. The pulse pulverisation of the sample is carried out from a surface which is heated at a temperature of between 1000 and 1500% C. and on which the sample dried in a flow of ballast gas forms a dry residue. The ballast gas may consist of Kr, Xe or mixtures thereof wich Ar under a pressure of between 1 and 2 torrs. The device for detecting elements in solutions comprises an ionising device which is arranged in a gas-discharge chamber filled with an inert gas.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2000Date of Patent: February 11, 2003Inventors: Alexandr Akhatovich Ganeev, Sergei Evgenievich Sholupov

Apparatus and method for generation of a protective sleeve against infections for an artificial lead
Patent number: 6432100Abstract: An apparatus and method for generation of a protective sleeve against infections for a percutaneous lead through human or animal skin. The percutaneous lead (1) includes an extrusion port (7). When the lead extends through a body (3) of a patient, a pump (9) in operative connection with the lead is operative to move biocompatible liquid polymer material from a reservoir (10) through the extrusion port. As the polymer material comes in contact with body tissues of the patient it forms a protective sleeve against infections (5). The protective sleeve must be periodically clipped as it continuously or intermittently grows in an upward direction (6) outside of the body. The continual formation of the protective sleeve prevents the formation of a biofilm on the percutaneous lead that can cause the body tissue to separate from the percutaneous lead.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1999Date of Patent: August 13, 2002Inventor: Ing Klaus Affeld -
Patent number: 6395229Abstract: A headspace sampling apparatus (10) operates to provide a sample of a vapor phase of a substance being analyzed under conditions of thermodynamic equilibrium. The substance is held in a vial (14). The vapor phase of the substance (18) is moved through a sample loop (34) between a first variable volume chamber (22) and a second variable volume chamber (40). A constant volume and temperature is maintained within the variable volume chambers, the sample loop and the headspace of the vial. An aliquot of the equilibrated vapor in the sample loop is passed to an analytical instrument (54) for analysis. The sample is obtained under conditions in which the sampling process does not affect the makeup of the sample because thermodynamic equilibrium is maintained.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2000Date of Patent: May 28, 2002Inventor: Michael Markelov
