  • Patent number: 6045047
Abstract: An optical reader is suitable for reading 2-dimensional indicia. The optical reading device, that may include a bar code reader, comprises a guide whose length along the optical reader optical axis is such that when that guide contacts the part or equipment surrounding the indicia to be read, that indicia is within the optical reader depth of field. The reader comprises a housing having therein a source of illumination and optics for producing a diverging beam for illuminating indica. A spacing element transparent guide is removably attached to the housing, and does not block indicia. The line of contact of the guide with the data carrier is substantially fully visible to the operator, who can thus confirm that the guide is in proper operating position relative to the indica prior to initiating a reading operation. A reading operation can be initiated by pressing on the guide to actuate a switch, or on a manual trigger.

  • Patent number: 6042771
Abstract: Method and apparatus for manufacturing a composite insulator including an FRP core rod which is integrally provided with a sheath and a plurality of sheds formed of an electrically insulating polymeric material. The core rod has a longitudinal end portion provided with a seat for a metal fitting, which is integral with the sheath. To manufacture such a composite insulator, the core rod is placed in a mold cavity of a mold assembly, with a seat forming member detachably fitted to the end portion of the core rod and arranged between a pair of mold halves. An inner space is formed between the seat forming member and a core rod, which is in communication with the mold cavity. An electrically insulating polymeric material is introduced into the mold cavity to form the sheath and sheds, while admitting the polymeric material into the space between the seat forming member and the core rod so as to form a seat for the metal fitting, which is essentially free from burrs.

  • Patent number: 6040689
Abstract: The present invention is a current sensing method and apparatus wherein a current transformer producing a secondary current is disposed in communication with a conductor having a primary current desired to be sensed. A current analyzer in communication with the current transformer is adapted to estimate the primary current in the conductor based on the secondary current output waveform, even in the case where the secondary current is in saturation. In one embodiment, the current analyzer estimates the primary current in the conductor by capturing the secondary current waveform output from the current transformer, selecting a predetermined number of data points in an undistorted, region of the secondary current waveform, and estimating the primary current based on the selected data points.
