  • Patent number: 7145747
Abstract: Disclosed is a data cartridge picking apparatus for use with a data cartridge library generally comprising at least one drive, a plurality of data cartridges capable of being disposed in a magazine and a transport system comprising an elevator capable of moving the picking apparatus within the library. The picking apparatus is capable of grasping and withdrawing, via a pair of grasping members, a data cartridge in a linear motion from, for example, a data cartridge magazine. The grasping members are actuated to open and close via the rotation of a crank and cam system whereby a camming structure associated with the crank engages a cam follower over some portion of rotation of the crank causing the grasping members to open and disengages the cam follower over a different portion of rotation causing the grasping members to close. The crank is rotated by the linear motion of the picker.

  • Patent number: 7134290
Abstract: In a transport refrigeration system which is susceptible to having its drive motors connected to a power source in reverse phase relationship to thereby operate the drive motors in reverse, provision is made to measure the current flow to the motors during operation in each direction and for comparing those current flows to determine which is greater and therefore representative of operation in the proper direction. A backup method is also provided for sensing the ambient temperature of the air downstream of the condenser coil, both before and during motor operation to determine whether the temperature during motor operation is greater than that prior to operation to thereby indicate a proper connection.

  • Patent number: 7133414
Abstract: The effectiveness of a communication system for broadcasting curtailment messages to comfort system thermostats is enhanced by conducting an initial test broadcast for the purposes of compiling a list of those users that did not receive the test broadcast. This list is then used in combination with a later broadcast of a curtailment message to also send the curtailment message to those individuals on the list by a more robust communication system to ensure that a greater number of users will receive the broadcast message.

  • Patent number: 7119551
Abstract: An improved two loop capacitive sensor oscillator circuit converts a transducer capacitance to a frequency and includes a first loop to create an oscillatory waveform having a frequency related to a capacitance of the capacitive transducer. The first loop includes a resistor. The resistor is electrically coupled to a capacitor. The resistor is also electrically coupled to the capacitive transducer. The capacitive transducer is electrically coupled to an input of a first inverter gate. A second loop oscillates at the frequency of the first loop and further generates a second waveform of a substantially square wave shape at the same frequency. The second loop is electrically coupled to the first loop and the output of a third inverter gate is substantially a square wave at the frequency related to the capacitance of the capacitive transducer.

  • Patent number: 7114323
Abstract: A system for reducing jet noise emission from an internally mixed gas turbine engine exhaust, comprising a fan/core flow mixer having a plurality of mixer lobes and a common flow nozzle having an equal number of tabs located along a circumferential edge of an aft end of the nozzle. There is a predetermined clocking relationship between the plurality of mixer lobes and the plurality of nozzle tabs that results in reduced exhaust noise emission, most evident in the lower frequency range. A method for reducing jet noise emission from an internally mixed gas turbine engine exhaust comprises selectively aligning a circumferential distribution of a mixed flow vorticity field produced by a fan/core mixer with a circumferentially distributed exhaust flow vorticity field produced by a modified common flow nozzle at an exit plane of the engine exhaust.

  • Patent number: 7108045
Abstract: A composite core for an investment casting process, the core including both a ceramic portion and a refractory metal portion, with the refractory metal portion being so disposed as to perform the function of a plurality of such refractory metal elements. In particular, a refractory metal element attached to a trailing edge of a ceramic element extends beyond the plane of a tip end of the ceramic element so as to replace the refractory metal element otherwise extending from the ceramic tip edge. The refractory metal element also extends beyond the space to be occupied by the wax casting, both in the direction of the tip end and the trailing edge such that improved placement and securing of the core is facilitated during the casting process. A further embodiment uses a single refractory metal element that extends into both the airfoil portion and an orthogonal extending platform portion thereof.

  • Patent number: 7102868
Abstract: An electrically conductive element for protecting electrical components positioned within a cable connector or cable terminator from high voltage surges includes a ring that is positioned in circumferentially surrounding relation to the input pin of the connector or terminator that carries the signal being transmitted by the coaxial cable. The ring includes at least one prong that extends radially inward therefrom which terminates in close but non-contacting relation to the input pin. When a high voltage surge of electricity is carried by the coaxial cable transmission line, a spark is formed in the gap between the prong and the cable connector or terminator. As a consequence, the high voltage surge is transferred to the surge protection element which in turn conducts the electricity to the grounded body of the connector or terminator.
