  • Patent number: 6304050
Abstract: A system is presented that creates vision-based, three-dimensional control of a multiple-degree-of-freedom dexterous robot, without special calibration of the vision system, the robot, or any of the constituent parts of the system, and that allows high-level human supervision or direction of the robot. The human operator uses a graphical user interface (GUI) to point and click on an image of the surface of the object with which the robot is to interact. Directed at this surface is the stationary selection camera, which provides the image for the GUI, and at least one other camera. A laser pointer is panned and tilted so as to create, in each participating camera space, targets associated with surface junctures that the user has selected in the selection camera. Camera-space manipulation is used to control the internal degrees of freedom of the robot such that selected points on the robot end member move relative to selected surface points in a way that is consistent with the desired robot operation.

  • Patent number: 5775865
Abstract: A support arm device is taught for the loading and unloading of equipment on and off a truck bed. The support arm functions like a lever and has wheels at one end and connectors at the other end for coupling to the equipment or to a carrier for the equipment. The support arm is easily mechanically adjustable from vertical to horizontal and vice versa. The wheel end of the support arm is lifted onto a truck tailgate, thus creating a desired axis of balance for the equipment to be loaded. A person acting alone and manually loading the equipment onto the truck bed then only has to apply a less vigorous and less awkward lifting force to the opposite end of the equipment to successfully load it into or onto the truck bed. The invention includes combinations of the support arm with a carrier used with the support arm and also a combination with a support member situated vertically atop the rear end of the carrier.

  • Patent number: 5634433
Abstract: The combination of two aquarium fish tanks bridged by a plastic bridge tube is disclosed. The bridge tube is shaped to accommodate the insertion of the ends of said bridge tubes in each of the fish tanks. A pump and filter are connected to a narrow diameter tube to force water and air in one of the tanks to flow to the other tank and then back to the first tank through the plastic bridge tube to equalize the water level in both fish tanks, and to enhance the flow of fish through the plastic bridge tube. The combination of tanks may have two plastic brackets supporting the bridge tube. One of each of the brackets is coupled to the top of each fish tank. The plastic brackets are shaped with a vertical planar surface and horizontal planar surface, each surface having a substantially semi-circular cut out in the planar surface of substantially the same diameter as the diameter of the fish tank bridge tube to provide stable support of the bridge tube both above and within the aquarium fish tanks being bridged.

  • Patent number: 5522188
Abstract: A bracing system for in-ground steel and vinyl swimming pools that allows the pool to be constructed very quickly and without the use of concrete either on the braces or around the bottom perimeter of the pool is described. The bracing system works by properly using the resistance of undisturbed earth around the perimeter of the pool (after excavating for the pool) and the weight and correct placement of the back-fill material reintroduced around the pool. Each earth brace system is comprised of a number of structural components in contact with peripheral wall panels of the pool. These include a horizontal lower structural member, an upper structural member, a diagonal brace member and a vertical support member. The horizontal and upper structural members each possess load bearing pad assemblies at their ends away from the wall panels to contact undisturbed earth surrounding the pool (after excavation).

  • Patent number: 5511347
Abstract: Sheet steel pan forms bent or rollformed to specific "universal" profiles allow the manufacture of concrete tread filled steel stairs or precast concrete stairs. The profiles adjust against each other under the specific angle of 26.565 and thereby, used in series, create stairways of various rise and run relations, maintaing the same profile at all times, satisfying requirements of all building codes and follow the measure of the human step on an incline. These "universal" profiles are designed to standardize stair construction, save labor and material and produce stairs more economically than conventional methods employed in today's construction industry.

  • Patent number: 5423951
Abstract: Pieces of coke of high density and strength are made continuously from fine particles of bituminous or subbituminous or lignite coals or of mixtures thereof. The particles are generally oxygenated, mixed with water, compressed to squeeze out some of the water to obtain single bodies which are heat processed lying on a traveling grate on which they undergo drying, pyrolyzing, carbonizing and cooling.Modifications include mixing in with the coal material(s) listed above, coke fines or char or anthracite coal; or limestone; or carbon-reducible oxides such as oxidic ores of Fe, Mn, Cr and quartzite in recited important proportions. Such formed coke bodies are useable in a submerged arc furnace or in a blast furnace or in an open hearth to produce desired intermediate or end metallic products. The pieces of coke with incorporated fine limestone burn without developing SO.sub.2.

  • Patent number: 5354110
Abstract: The fireplace tending tool is of tubular construction with a hand grip and actuating lever, both of which can be squeezed together with one hand. The actuating lever is connected by means of a solid rod inside the tube to a moveable jaw construction which jaw is of curved design. The moveable jaw is made from flat bar steel and possesses a single tooth at its outer end. This moveable jaw opposes two similar shaped fixed jaws or tines constructed of round steel with a curved design similar to the curve of the moveable jaw. These two fixed jaws and the moveable jaw are fabricated of welded steel and fixed about the center line of the tube at the tube's end opposite from the end of the tube where the hand grip and actuating lever are located. The overall design the device provides for 180 degree movement of same in the placing of logs and in operating the device. Due to its lightweight design and streamlined contour, maximum leverage and control is attained during operation.
