Abstract: A new and improved developing solution for two-component light-sensitive diazo-type copying materials is described. The solution is a substituted organic diamine formulation which produces dry, high quality diazo prints rapidly, replacing conventional dry ammonia gas systems. The preferred diamine is N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-ethylenediamine alone or with diethylaminopropylamine.

Abstract: Hydrogenation catalyst and a process for producing gamma-butyrolactone by hydrogenating a feed compound -- selected from the group consisting of maleic acid, succinic acid, maleic anhydride, succinic anhydride, and mixtures of any of the foregoing -- in the vapor phase, in the presence of said catalyst, which is a highly selective elemental Cu-Pd or Cu-Pt catalyst, in order to produce high yields of gamma-butyrolactone and minimize the formation of by-products.
Abstract: A portable microform reader is provided with a microform carrier and a projection system for projecting an enlarged real image of the information carried on a portion of the microform onto a viewing screen. A binocular magnifying system is arranged for viewing the screen and for further enlarging the image thereon to produce a virtual image of acceptable reading size. The projection system comprises a source of illumination, a condenser lens, and a projection lens for projecting an image of the information carried on the microform onto the screen. The magnifying system may consist of appropriate binocular lenses where such lenses, in combination with prismatic converging means, produce the desired magnification. Beam splitting means may alternately be provided to eliminate the need for prismatic converging means, and a mirror arrangement may be provided to "fold" the projected beams for further limiting the size of the reader.
Abstract: An improved etchant solution for selectively etching unprotected areas of metal film from a substrate which comprises between about 65 and about 90 parts by weight phosphoric acid, between about 0.5 and about 5 parts by weight of a perchloric acid component and between about 9 and about 30 parts by weight water, which composition contains from 0 to about 5% by weight total volume of a neutral or anionic wetting agent. The invention also comprises the method of utilizing the etchant composition and the improved precision device produced thereby.
Abstract: A derivative of paraphenylenediamine, for use as a color developer, having a primary amino group available for oxidative coupling, and a carboxy group bound to the benzene ring to provide the compound with the required stability to enable the compound to be incorporated into a photographic film, the compound being non-diffusible during development of the photographic film in an alkaline processing solution.

Abstract: A system for sustained release of phenolic material into a fluid from phenolic complexes of water-insoluble, but water-swellable crosslinked N-vinyllactam or N-alkyl-N-vinylamide polymers in the form of porous beads or granules. The complexes, which are particularly suited for use in situations wherein fluids containing phenolic materials in limited quantities are desired, and are provided by leaching a limited amount of phenolic material from the complex by contacting the porous granules in a container, such as in a canister or column which is used to treat liquids or water.
