Abstract: Apparatus for washing the wheels and tires of heavy duty vehicles includes a wash trough in which the wheels and tires are washed, and a refuse trough in which refuse from the vehicles is deposited for facile removal. The troughs are separated by a wall having a space therein through which debris from the wash trough is impelled, by a stream of water into the refuse trough.
Abstract: A screw having a primary thread extending along its shank and terminating at the screw head is formed with a supplemental thread extending between adjacent convolutions of the primary thread and also terminating at the head of the screw. The spaced termini of the two threads maintain a washer at the head in a position perpendicular to the axis of the shank of the screw.
Abstract: A fastener having a shank and head, the latter formed with a recess in its lower surface. A gasket is positioned in the recess, which it partially fills until the screw is employed to joint two elements and the gasket is compressed so that it fills the entirety of the recess, thereby preventing the ingress of undesirable materials.
Abstract: A device for mechanically impaling a worm on a hook includes a housing enclosing a passageway that terminates in a bait receiving aperture and a hook receiving aperture. Application of suction within the passageway impels a worm at the bait receiving aperture toward and onto a hook located in the passageway at the hook receiving aperture.
Abstract: A class of water insoluble iodophors comprising complexes of iodine with various nylons such as nylon-4,6, nylon-6, nylon-6,6 or other polyamides is disclosed. These nylons complexed with iodine can be made in various forms such as powders, pellets, molded objects, granules, films, monofilaments, and either non-woven or woven fabrics. These nylon based iodophors and other water insoluble iodophors herein disclosed can find product applications in the fields of air treatment, water treatment, public hygiene and medicine.
Abstract: Apparatus for washing the wheels and tires of a vehicle includes an elongated tank into which vehicle to be washed enters and exits, and a plurality of impediments spaced along the bottom of the tank. The impediments are in the form of hollow angle irons with apertures formed in at least one of their side walls, and means is provided for spraying water through the apertures in the direction of the vehicle wheels and tires as the vehicle passes over the angle irons.
Abstract: An otherwise conventional measuring tape which typically includes a six-faced housing or casing with a flexible and spring biased measuring tape spirally wound therein, is provided with a pair of straight wings. Each wing is pivoted at one end thereof to one face or surface of the housing by its own pivot pin. Each wing, near its respective pivot pin, is provided with an arcuate set of teeth, as in the form of gear teeth. These two sets of teeth intermesh with each other so that when one wing is rotated about its pivot, the other wing will rotate as well. Upon angular extension of the wings to their open position, they are aligned and form a straight edge. In their closed or nested position, they do not interfere with the usual mode of operation of the tape and casing. Each wing is L-shaped in transverse cross-section.
Abstract: A method of killing protozoa comprises subjecting the protozoa to an effective amount of extract of the hop plant. Such protozoicidal effect is increased when the hop extract is further treated with carbon dioxide.
