  • Patent number: 3991660
Abstract: A plurality of collapsed open ended sleeve-type cartons are withdrawn in sequence from a hopper by feeder means which engages a single wall of each carton and moves in such a direction as to cause another wall of the carton to engage fixed cam means having a camming surface disposed at an angle to the general direction of feeding movement of cartons from the hopper so as partially to set up the open ended sleeve-type carton. A carton feeding operation is performed by a main feeding arm to which a supplementary feeder arm is pivotally connected and biased to impart desired pressure to the carton to facilitate setting the carton up during initial stages of a withdrawal operation.

  • Patent number: 3964991
Abstract: Colloids are precipitated from an aqueous suspension by electrolysis techniques in which a flocculation cell is provided with a soluble anode formed preferably of multi-valent material and wherein the cathode comprises a metal cylinder having an inlet at one end and an outlet at the other end and in which the anode is coaxially disposed in insulated relation to the cathode so that an aqueous suspension may be caused to flow through the cell in such manner as thoroughly and systematically to wash the inner surface of the cathode and the outer surface of the anode by following a generally helical path which inhibits formation of large clusters of hydrogen and oxygen gas established by the application of an electric potential across the cathode and anode. The pH of the aqueous solution must be controlled at a substantially neutral value and the anode preferably is formed of soluble aluminum, iron, magnesium or other multi-valent metal.

  • Patent number: 3965401
Abstract: A textile card crush roll operating system is driven by a two-speed electric motor completely independent of the main card cylinder driving motor and is provided with starting control means for operating the crush roll motor at slow speed for a pre-determined time according to automatically operable timing means during which interval sliver from the crush rolls is manually fed into an associated coiler and arranged in such a way that tension of the sliver is applied to stop control means which stops operation of the two-speed crush roll motor after the motor is accelerated to its high speed condition under the control of operating control means. Thus if sliver tension is substantially reduced, the crush roll system is automatically shut down.

  • Patent number: 3963170
Abstract: A unitary wrapper blank having top, bottom and side walls interconnected to form a tubular structure about a plurality of articles incorporates one composite wall formed of a pair of overlapping panels one of which incorporates at least one specially configured locking slit which receives a specially configured locking tab struck from the other lap panel after the locking tab is folded out of the plane of the other panel along a hinge line and into flat face contacting relation with an adjacent positioning tab formed on an edge of the other panel which tab also is inserted along with the locking tab into the locking slit. After the positioning tab and locking tab are fully inserted into the locking slit, the locking tab swings away from the positioning tab due to its inherent bias which tends to swing the locking tab into the plane of the panel from which it is struck.
