  • Patent number: 6801766
Abstract: A method and system for sending information to a pager regarding information pertaining to a previously occurring telephone call. After receiving a call offered to a called party, a signal is transmitted from a switch to a service control point, which then obtains transmitted information relating to the call. A signal is transmitted from a service control point to a switch to instruct the switch to process the call. Another signal including the information relating to the call is transmitted preferably from the service control point to a service node and then to a communications service provider. The communications service provider is preferably a paging service provider which transmits a page including the information relating to the call to a pager associated with the called party. The information relating to the call then may be displayed on the pager.

  • Patent number: 6788215
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for sensing an electromagnetic field. A Global Positioning System (GPS) is disposed in a housing, and the GPS acquires global positioning system information describing a location of the apparatus. An electromagnetic sensor is also disposed in the housing and senses the electromagnetic field. An alarm couples to the electromagnetic sensor, the alarm produces an indication of at least one of i) the sensed electromagnetic field and ii) the location of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6773294
Abstract: A connector is disclosed for electrically connecting a conductor to a terminal. The connector has a body and an electrically conductive member. The body has a passage for positioning the conductor therein. The passage has an aperture to an outer surface of the body. The electrically conductive member has a first portion and a second portion. The first portion extends through the aperture for crimping the conductor in the passage, and the second portion is for electrically connecting to the terminal. The electrically conductive member moves to disconnect the second portion from the terminal while still crimping the conductor in the passage.

  • Patent number: 6753809
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for enhancing telephone line records with Global Positioning System coordinates. One embodiment acquires Global Positioning System information associated with a telephone number. This embodiment uses the Global Positioning System information to create a telephone line record for a telephone number. The Global Positioning System information describes latitude, longitude, and elevation associated with the telephone number. The Global Positioning System information, for example, could define the location of a customer's service address, a service terminal, a cross-connect box, a wire center, and/or a central office.

  • Patent number: 6729587
Abstract: An apparatus for routing a communication cable within a drop ceiling. The apparatus has a main body having an eyelet at one end. A grommet is disposed within the eyelet, and the grommet has at least one passage through which the communication cable passes. The apparatus also has means for securing the apparatus to a framework of the drop ceiling. The passage in the grommet reduces deformation of the communication cable during installation and helps maintain a desired routing of the communication cable once installed within the drop ceiling.

  • Patent number: 6726181
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for routing cables and wires. A first elongate section has an upper end and a lower end, and a second elongate section has a first end and a second end. A single hinge connects the lower end to the first end, and the single hinge allows the second elongate section to pivot between a first position to a second position. The first position has the second elongate section longitudinally aligned with the first elongate section, and the second position has the second elongate section substantially perpendicular to the first elongate section. The apparatus also has means for pivoting the second elongate section from the first position to the second position.

  • Patent number: 6705183
Abstract: A 4-in-1 tool is disclosed. The tool has an elongate handle having a first end, a second end, and a longitudinal bore. A first socket longitudinally extends from the first end, while a second socket longitudinally extends from the second end. The first socket has a different size than the second socket. An elongated shank is disposed in the longitudinal bore of the handle, and the shank moves within the longitudinal bore. The shank has a screwdriver bit at one end and a security wrench at an opposite end. The security wrench is for engaging a fastener at a demarcation point of a telecommunications network. The elongated shank has at least a first position and a second position. The first position outwardly extends the screwdriver bit beyond the first socket, and the second position outwardly extends the security wrench beyond the second socket.

  • Patent number: 6697469
Abstract: A calling-party-pays gateway operative for billing a surcharge for a telecommunication service to an account associated with a calling line number. The calling-party-pays gateway is configured for connection between a telephone system and a switch servicing a group of terminating stations such that all communications directed to terminating stations serviced by the switch are routed through the gateway. When the gateway receives a connection request defining a communication directed to a terminating station serviced by the switch, the gateway determines whether the terminating station is associated with an account that requires the surcharge to be billed to the account associated with the calling line number. If the terminating station is associated with an account that requires the surcharge to be billed to the account associated with the calling line number, the gateway determines whether the account associated with the calling line number is pre-approved to receive the surcharge.

  • Patent number: 6675916
Abstract: A method and apparatus for boring holes in the ground. The apparatus includes an auger translating along a guide. Because the auger translates along the guide, the auger bores a straight hole in the ground. The present invention also contemplates a method. The method of boring holes in the ground includes rectilinearly translating an auger with respect to the ground and boring a hole in the ground with the auger. The method may also include longitudinally and transversely orienting the auger.

  • Patent number: 6669515
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for clamping cable. The apparatus is a barrier that clamps and/or adheres to the cable. The barrier has a base, and the base has a diameter greater than an aperture through which the cable passes. The base of the barrier hinders the cable from pulling through the aperture, yet the barrier allows the cable to push through the aperture.
