  • Patent number: 4399695
Abstract: A water speed sensing transmitter unit suspended from a fishing boat at the depth fishing gear is being trolled actuates transmission of a pulse signal through the water for detection by a receiver unit mounted on the boat. The frequency of the pulse signal is proportional to the speed of the transmitter unit relative to surrounding water at the trolling depth. The receiver unit recreates a corresponding pulse signal, averages it and triggers a display of the average speed sensed by the transmitter unit over a predetermined period.

  • Patent number: 4391076
Abstract: Generally rectangular wood shake covering elements laid up in overlapping courses are spaced apart transversely of their lengths by sawn wood shingle filler elements. Preferably the major portion of the overlapped portion of each course is formed by the tips of the sawn shingle filler elements, whereas the major portion of the exposed portion of each course is formed by the wood shake covering elements. One of such elements can be notched providing a transversely extending shoulder dividing such element into tip and butt portions of unequal width. In application, the shoulder tightly abuts the adjacent element. The covering and filler elements can be used to construct a roofing panel which includes a sawn shingle underlayer beneath each course and waterproof paper which underlies at least the major portion of the shingle underlayer but which is secured to the roofing panel by having one end portion interposed between the underlayer and the covering or filler element at one end of the panel.

  • Patent number: 4374453
Abstract: A bicycle freewheel wrench pry adapter for use with a freewheel wrench in removing a freewheel and its associated drive sprocket assembly from the bicycle axle is generally U-shaped and includes a channel in the base of the U opposite the legs of the U which fits the boss of the freewheel wrench engaged with the freewheel. The adapter includes a recess in the root of each leg of the U to assist in retaining a pry inserted between the legs for applying force through the freewheel wrench to the freewheel. The freewheel wrench pry adapter channel includes stress reliefs in the corners of the channel to avoid excessive stress concentrations in such corners which could induce breakage of the freewheel wrench pry adapter.

  • Patent number: 4368039
Abstract: An extraoral force-reaction device engageable with the wearer's head and/or neck, such as a headcap or a neckband, is connected to an intraoral force-applying device, such as molar bands, by force-producing means, such as springs. Snapback of the force-applying means is controlled in response to relative movement of the intraoral means and the extraoral force-reaction means away from each other beyond a predetermined maximum limit, or in response to stressing of the force-producing means beyond a predetermined maximum degree of force exerted by the force-producing means. Snapback control may be effected by latching of a limit latch to prevent or limit return movement of the force-reaction device and the force-applying device, or disconnectible means can be disconnected to interrupt the application to the intraoral means of force capable of moving such intraoral means.

  • Patent number: 4366858
Abstract: The outlet header tank forms two compartments separated by a partition wall provided with a hole in its lower portion and causing a pressure loss at least equal to the head of water in the header tank so that air possibly existing in the compartment is expelled via a pipe.

  • Patent number: 4364411
Abstract: Heat conduction along and through the line of a nonambient temperature liquid system is deterred by a thermal barrier having insulative stop and seat components interengaged for thermally isolating the liquid on one side of the barrier from the liquid on the other side of the barrier when the liquid within the line is stagnant. The barrier automatically opens to permit liquid flow through the line and closes to thermally isolate the liquid when the flow is interrupted, i.e. the liquid flow within the line is substantially unimpeded by the thermal barrier. For an application in which the line is subjected to low temperature which could freeze trapped liquid, such as in the outlet line of a water heater located in an uninsulated space, a small bypass passage is provided which is open when the barrier stop is closed so that a limited amount of heat is conducted past the barrier to deter freezing of the water.

  • Patent number: 4361328
Abstract: A sheet interfitting section puzzle includes incongruent pieces with complementary indicia which are physically separated by the puzzle piece internal edges and complementally abuttable internal edges which may be arranged in only one combination with all internal edges in complementary abutting relationship. When so arranged the complementary indicia are adjacent. Internal edges may be identical and therefore pieces may fit in an incorrect location while the puzzle is being constructed, in which location indicia adjacent to complementally abutting sides would not be complementary, but all the pieces must be located in their correct locations for the puzzle to be solved.

  • Patent number: 4354485
Abstract: A prone board is provided with an adjustable angle leg supporting and spreading appliance positioned to extend from a location below the crotch and between the thighs of a patient to a location below the patient's knees. The appliance is adjustable and cooperates with lateral foot supports for adaptation to progress in treatment of hip or knee extension and/or flexion. A face support relieves prolonged stress on the patient's neck or compensates for dysfunctional head support. An attachment including a leg inclined forwardly and a telescoping brace which permits adjustment of the angle of inclination of the prone board relative to the floor.

  • Patent number: 4345630
Abstract: A method of making wood shingle sidewall panels by assembling a layup including a face layer of high-grade tapered wood shingles with their longitudinal edges in abutment, each such shingle having a rabbeted longitudinal edge, an intermediate layer of veneer and a backing layer of wood shingles tapered opposite to the taper of the face wood shingles, and bonding the shingle layers to the opposite sides of the veneer, respectively. The face layer of sidewall panel shingles having rabbeted edges simulates the appearance of shingles individually applied to a wall.
