  • Patent number: 8107539
Abstract: A method and device for error concealment in a video sequence. When there is a scene transition in the video sequence and an error occurs in a picture belonging to the scene transition, an error concealment procedure based on the type of scene transition is used to conceal the error. Information about the scene transition type is provided to a decoder in a supplemental enhancement information message. If the scene transition is a gradual scene transition, a spatio-temporal error concealment algorithm is used to conceal the picture. If the scene transition is a scene cut and only part of the picture is lost or corrupted, a spatial error concealment is used to conceal the lost or corrupted part of the picture. If a whole picture belonging to the scene cut is lost or corrupted and the picture starts a new scene, it is not concealed.

  • Patent number: 7969936
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for improving the quality of control signalling based on signalling messages controlling speech or data transmission over an air interface between at least two radio terminals of a radio communications system, said speech or data being transmitted in at least one traffic channel of said radio communications system, and said signalling messages being transmitted in control channels associated with said at least one traffic channel. In order to allow for an improved performance of SACCH and FACCH, a first and a second signalling message with identical content are transmitted in two separate associated control channels. Alternatively, a signalling message included in a single ACCH is coded with a stronger coding. The invention relates equally to corresponding radio terminals and modules for such units.

  • Patent number: 7962186
Abstract: A short-range wireless power transmission scheme is used between two movably or detachably coupled device parts in an electronic device. In a device, such as a foldable or slidable mobile phone, both device parts have some electronic components that require electronic power but only one part has a power source. For example, a phone cover has a display but there is no power source in the phone cover. A receiver can be implemented in the cover to receive microwaves from a transmitter in the phone body. The receiver and the transmitter can be arranged such that, the antennas are placed as close to each other as possible in order to achieve best efficiency of energy and data transfer. If one pair of antenna is not enough, multiple antennas or antenna arrays can be used for this purpose. Different antenna pairs can be configurable for different purposes.

  • Patent number: 7916697
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for supporting a handover of a mobile station 1 from a first radio access unit 3, 8 of a wireless communication network 2 to a second radio access unit 4, 9 of a wireless communication network 2. In order to improve a context transfer in the case of a handover of the mobile station 1, the mobile station 1 transmits information about its activity state to the second radio access unit 4, 9 when it is to be handed over to the second radio access unit 4, 9. The invention relates equally to such a mobile station, to such a second radio access unit, to a wireless communication system comprising such a mobile station and such a second radio access unit, and to a software code causing the transfer of information at the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 7542435
Abstract: In a multimedia streaming network where a client has a receiver buffer to store a plurality of packets received from a server so as to compensate for the difference between data transmission amount by the server and data usage amount by the client, the server should be able to adapt the data transmission rate based on the status of the receiver buffer. For rate adaptation purposes, server reconstructs a list of packets in the receiver buffer based on information provided by the client. The information signaled to the server is indicative of the next packet to be decoded in the client. The information can be the sequence number of the next packet to be decoded, the DON number of the next NAL unit to be decoded, or the sequence number of the packet carrying the next NAL unit to be decoded and the DON indicative of the decoding order of that next NAL unit.

  • Patent number: 7429307
Abstract: In a method of forming a layered fibrous web, the method includes the steps of leading at least two different fiber suspensions through a head box (10), separating the fiber suspensions from each other by a blade device (18, 180), supplying the fiber suspensions to a web forming device (24) and forming a water layer having a transversely uniform flow at an outlet at the end of the blade device (18, 180), such that the water layer constitutes an extension of the blade device and thereby prevents mixing of the fiber suspensions. The blade device (18, 180) can be freely movable in a substantially vertical direction in order to permit an equalization of pressure between the fiber suspension layers separated by the blade device and thereby reducing wake effects downstream the edge of the blade device. A paper machine for carrying out the method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7374424
Abstract: A hinge has two hinge parts for connecting two device parts of a portable device. The hinge parts can be moved relative to each other so as to allow the portable device to operate in a number of positions. For example, in a mobile phone with a sliding cover to expose the phone keyboard when the mobile phone is operated in an open position, the hinge parts are also configured to allow the sliding motion of the sliding cover. Furthermore, electrically conductive segments are provided on the hinge parts so that electrical contacts between the device parts can be achieved when the portable device is operated in different positions. Additionally, an optical conduit is provided through the hinge so that optical signals can be conveyed between the device parts when the portable device is operated in different positions.

  • Patent number: 6618690
Abstract: A generalized positioning system, corresponding method, and filter for use in the generalized positioning system, based on Kalman filtering or any other kind of filtering that produces an estimate of position, or other aspect of the motion of an object, using statistical measures involving current and previous measurements of position or any other aspect of the motion of the object, but with greater responsiveness than a positioning system based on the usual statistical filtering, such as Kalman filtering. The generalized positioning system uses a calculated association probability for each measurement in a set of measurements of position (or other aspect of the motion) at a particular instant of time, the association probabilities being used in the calculation of a combined measurement innovation (residual), which is in turn used in calculating the next estimate of position (or other motion state information).

  • Patent number: 6601411
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for annealing an optical waveguide, including an optical fiber or large-diameter waveguide structure, having along some length an induced refractive index difference that decays over time and so causes drift in the wavelength of reflected light when broadband light is inserted into the optical waveguide. The method uses an assumed decay formula for the induced refractive index difference indicating how the induced refractive index difference decays over time, the assumed decay formula having parameters that depend on temperature. The method includes the steps of: determining the (temperature dependent) parameters in the assumed decay formula for both an operating temperature and an annealing temperature, the annealing temperature being higher than the operating temperature, by fitting the observed decay over a measuring time at the two temperatures; and determining an anneal time at the annealing temperature based on a maximum allowed drift at the operating temperature.

  • Patent number: 6456771
Abstract: A process for adapting a length of optical fiber with a pure silica core to enable imprinting a Bragg grating in the core without doping the core, the process using an optical fiber having some fluorine in its cladding, and besides the process, a pure silica core optical fiber having a Bragg grating. The process causes fluorine to diffuse from the cladding into the core for a selected length, and then by one of several alternative methods, creates defects in the core within the length. The alternatives include heating and reducing or oxidizing the length; performing flame brushing; or irradiating the length using ionizing radiation, such as gamma radiation. Next, the process uses hydrogenation to load the core with hydrogen, and then exposes the length to a pattern of UV light as is normally done in imprinting a Bragg grating. Finally, the process heats the length, causing hydrogen fluoride to form in the regions exposed to appreciable UV light.
