  • Patent number: 5296743
Abstract: A method of making an integrated circuit package is disclosed herein along with the package itself, which package is encapsulated by plastic that is caused to flow in a given direction during the package's formation. The package itself includes an IC chip having an array of chip output/input terminals, and means for supporting the chip including an array of electrically conductive leads, all of which are provided for connection with the output/input terminals of the IC chip. In addition, the overall package includes bonding wires connecting the chip output/input terminals with respective ones of the leads such that each bonding wire extends in a direction that defines an acute angle of less than 45 degrees with the given flow direction of the plastic material used to encapsulate the IC chip, support means and bonding wires. In a preferred embodiment, at least a portion and most preferably substantially all of the bonding wires are substantially parallel with the given flow direction of the plastic material.

  • Patent number: 5289786
Abstract: The present invention includes four chambers for containing refuse, a porous membrane at least partially enclosing the chambers, and a housing enclosing the porous membrane and the chambers. Combustion fuel is supplied to the porous membrane so that surface combustion takes place at the surface of the porous membrane facing the chamber for burning the refuse contained in the chamber. Electrical means may also be employed to provide combustion of the refuse. Safety features include pressure feed-back means for monitoring and regulating the pressure within the apparatus and temperature feed-back means for monitoring and regulating the temperature within the apparatus. A particle bin is positioned below the chamber for receiving burned particles from the chamber. The gases generated from the burning refuse is collected and pumped through a super heating and purifying chamber (eliminated all hazardous affluent) and into the boiler type heat exchanger and thereby producing steam for electrical generation.

  • Patent number: 5226859
Abstract: An oscillating rachet style continuously or infinitely variable transmission is disclosed herein, that is, one which, in its operation, relies on a plurality of different successive intermediate rotations that vary in speed and direction in accordance with their own respective oscillatory waveform, each waveform being out of phase with one another in a predetermined way. These intermediate rotations are used to convert the rotational input to a plurality of uni-direction output rotations, without the aid of any over-running clutches. These later outputs vary in speed in accordance with their own respective waveforms and are used to produce a modified rotational output.

  • Patent number: 5223815
Abstract: A portable anti-theft system and method for sounding an alarm which is a speech synthesizer when a first portable unit and a second portable unit become separated by a predetermined distance is disclosed herein. The system comprises transmitter means in the first portable unit for transmitting a signal, receiver means in said second portable unit for receiving the signal transmitted by the transmitter means, signal strength determination means in communication with the receiver means for comparing the strength of the received signal with a predetermined signal comprising speech synthesizing means for making an announcement when the signal strength determination means has determined that the strength of the received signal is less that the predetermined signal strength value.

  • Patent number: 5214582
Abstract: An interactive diagnostic system is disclosed herein for use with an automotive vehicle of the type including a network of sensors and actuators for independently sensing and actuating a number of different functions within the vehicle and an onboard computer for monitoring the sensors and controlling the operation of the actuators. This system provides the automotive service professional with all of the tools necessary to provide precision diagnostic testing on todays computer-controlled cars. This is accomplished by providing the system with means including an external computer for controlling operation of one or more specific actuators independent of the onboard computer and for simulating the operation of specific sensors independent of the actual operation of these latter sensors. At the same time, the electronic data entering and exiting the onboard computer including the actual data associated with the network of sensors and actuators can be continuously monitored and analyzed by the external computer.

  • Patent number: 5207223
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are set forth for selectively irradiating a target within a patient. A 3-dimensional mapping is provided of a mapping region surrounding the target. A beaming apparatus emits a collimated beam. Diagnostic beams at a known non-zero angle to one another pass through the mapping region. They produce images of projections within the mapping region. Electronic representations of the images are compared with the reference data thereby locating the target. The relative positions of the beaming apparatus and the living organism are adjusted in such a manner that the collimated beam is focused on the target region. The comparison is repeated at small time intervals and, when the comparison so indicates, the adjusting step is repeated, as needed, and in such a manner that the collimated beam remains focused on to the target region.

  • Patent number: 5178131
Abstract: A laryngoscope handle forming part of an overall laryngoscope is disclosed herein having a hollow, elongated hand gripping portion designed to contain an electrical power supply, specifically batteries, within its interior. The handle also includes a blade connecting head portion disengagably connected to one end of the hand gripping portion and a number of passageways for accommodating a light source and electrical contacts which are necessary in the operation of the overall laryngoscope. The elongated hand gripping portion itself is sealed sufficient to prevent water from reaching its interior and damaging the power supply therein. One way of forming part of this seal is a particular arrangement including a printed circuit board for sealing the entire lower end of the blade connecting head portion including its multiple passageways so as to prevent any water entering the passageways from reaching the power supply containing the interior of the hand gripping portion.
