Abstract: A method of producing an overhead contact wire for supplying power to electrically driven vehicles is proposed which comprises a copper-clad steel wire and a copper wire that is metallically joined to the copper-clad steel wire. The method includes the following steps: a) heating a steel wire to a temperature about 950.degree. C.; b) joining first and second metal band sections to a surface of the steel wire by means of rolling at a temperature of about 950.degree. C. under protective gas atmosphere to produce a combined element; c) reducing the cross-section of the combined element by at least 20%; d) heating a copper wire to a temperature about 950.degree. C.; e) joining the heated copper wire to the reduced diameter combined element in the area covered by the first band section by rolling at about 950.degree. C. under protective gas to produce a prepared wire; and f) reducing the cross-section of the prepared wire to produce an overhead contact wire.
Abstract: A bicycle mudguard includes a plastic moulding comprising a main aerofoil section and at one end of which a ball is provided. The ball cooperates with a pair of clamp members to form a ball and socket fitment for adjustable and releaseable attachment of the mudguard to one of mariaus members of the bicycle frame.
Abstract: A self-contained clothing system comprising a foundation garment, typefied by a shirt-jacket and a pant, and several removable components, typefied by a hood, a sleeved yoke, and two chaps, which, all together and in conjunction with normal undergarments, serve to protect the wearer from the elements in changing weather conditions. This versatility of function is achieved through a design which incorporates removable components, pockets to carry said removable components, adjustable ventilation openings, and the use of appropriate fabrics.
Abstract: In septic systems for handling household waste water or in clear water drainage applications, lightweight molded polyethylene galleries are used to form the drain field. The galleries can be axially aligned in end-to-end relationship with each gallery defining an interior hollow chamber. A unique latching system is used to attach adjoining galleries to one another. A perforated delivery conduit extends through and introduces effluent into the hollow chambers of the galleries where it is allowed to seep therefrom into the surrounding earth through the open bottoms of the galleries or through infiltration apertures in the walls of the galleries.
Abstract: A conductor rail comprises a main body of aluminium and a stainless steel facing layer which is produced by welding together two longitudinal J-section strips. The welding operation is effected with the strips in contact with the main body and provides an extremely effective interlocking engagement of the facing layer and main body.
