  • Patent number: 7580625
Abstract: A handheld electronic device 10 comprising first and second parts 11, 12 at least partially retractable with respect to one another along an extension axis 14 of the device to define retracted and extended configurations of the device, the device comprising a camera assembly 13 and a camera illumination assembly 21, the camera illumination assembly being arranged to be between the first and second parts in the extended configuration, the device being arranged such that the camera illumination assembly is substantially housed within the first and/or second parts in the retracted configuration and exposed in the extended configuration.

  • Patent number: 7522885
Abstract: A method for continuously determining the required dynamic range for an analog-to-digital converter by determining the received signal strength and using this received signal strength value in combination with the overall dynamic range for the ADC and the target resolution of the ADC to decode a radio channel in the absence of interference, wherein the target resolution is also related to the type of decoding to be performed subsequent to analog-to-digital conversion. The method allows for a reduction in power consumption associated with the ADC, especially when the incoming signal is received with few interfering radio channels and with a relatively high signal strength. The present method can be combined with gain control and analog alert detection.

  • Patent number: 7380881
Abstract: An apparatus—which could be a chair (10), but could also be an apparatus that supports a person in other than a seated position—comprising a moveable platform (including a seat (12) in case of a chair) urged always toward a neutral position when a person is seated or otherwise positioned on the apparatus (10). The motion of the platform/seat (12) toward and away from the neutral position is constrained so that the platform/seat (12) remains at least approximately horizontal in its orientation relative to the floor on which the apparatus/chair (10) is positioned even when traveling along a path not horizontal to the floor, i.e. e.g. along a path inclined to the floor. A method is also provided in which the apparatus/chair (10) is used to provide lower-back therapy.

  • Patent number: 7293380
Abstract: A portable display device has a rectangular center panel having a top edge, a bottom edge, two side hinges and a back, with first and second rectangular side panels respectively hingedly connected to the center panel by the two side hinges thereof. A support foot has a base hingedly connected to the bottom edge of the center panel and foldable to lie adjacent the back of the center panel, and first and second legs hingedly connected to the base and deployable extending rearwardly from the base and configured for releasable interconnection spaced from the base, thereby to maintain the support foot in a configuration extending rearwardly from the center panel and supporting the center and side panels in an upright position.

  • Patent number: 7262532
Abstract: A motor structure resistant to liquid intrusion features two modules, the first having an electronically commutated external-rotor motor (20), which motor comprises an internal stator (22) that is arranged on a bearing tube (30) and is separated by a first air gap (24) from an external rotor (26; 92), which latter comprises a rotor cup (40) that is open at one end and is joined at its other end to a shaft (46) that is journalled in the bearing tube (30), further having a permanent-magnet arrangement (76), arranged at the open end of the rotor cup (40), for magnetic interaction with a second permanent-magnet rotor (92), forming part of the second module. The first module is separated from that second rotor (92) by a second air gap and forms therewith a magnetic coupling (94), so that a rotation of the permanent-magnet arrangement (76) brings about a rotation of that second rotor (92).

  • Patent number: 6836471
Abstract: A method and system for inter-operator handover in a telecommunications network comprising a greenfield WCDMA operator and a GSM/WCDMA operator. When a mobile terminal of the greenfield operator is moving from the coverage area of the home network to the GSM/WCDMA area, a neighbor list of GSM cells is provided to the mobile terminal for handover to a GSM cell when the home network coverage is not available. When the mobile terminal is returning home from the GSM/WCDMA area, a neighbor list of the home cells is provided to the mobile terminal so that the greenfield mobile station is connected to its home network whenever there is coverage. Preferably, the neighbor lists are provided to the mobile terminal only in the connected mode.

  • Patent number: 6760317
Abstract: A method and system for establishing a connection link between a master device and a plurality of slave devices in a communications network having a plurality of frequency channels within a radio frequency band known as the unlicensed ISM band, wherein the connection links between the master device and the slave devices are capable of being carried out in a frequency-hopping fashion. The method comprises the steps of sending a link request to the master device requesting establishment of a non-frequency-hopping connection link between the master device and a slave device; establishing the non-frequency-hopping connection link as requested if the master device is able to select a communication channel for such a connection link; and establishing or maintaining the connection link in the frequency-hopping fashion if the master device is unable to select such a communication channel.

  • Patent number: 6663593
Abstract: A disposable syringe has a plunger rupture device and a washer-guide sealing barrel nozzle which make it safe against re-use, since the plunger breaks up and the piston is stuck at the bottom of the barrel, thereby making impossible reloading of the syringe. The syringe is assembled by fitting the pressure washer onto the plunger, fitting the rubber to the piston base, fitting the plunger to the piston, inserting the support bolt to the fitting of the set plunger/piston, fitting the assembled set plunger/piston into the barrel, and, finally, seating the screening washer inside the top of the barrel, thereby sealing the syringe entirely.
