Abstract: A band saw having a generally vertically oriented saw blade carrying frame mounted to a movable carriage is disclosed. The carriage is mounted in a horizontally extending guideway in the saw base by an arm which is cantilevered from the back side of the vertical saw frame for support and guided motion of the saw from a relatively debris free portion of the saw base. Additionally, the band saw includes a work piece supporting bar feed table having a movable vise which is stabilized against backward tilting and a roller support assembly constructed so as to accommodate load concentrations from heavy, bent bar stock. Finally, an improved band saw blade guiding assembly is disclosed.
Abstract: A method of treating plants for the purpose of transport and storage, according to which method the root section together with a certain quantity of earth is enveloped by a fabric, and wherein is used a bag, pouch or the like of e.g. an organic material closed at one end, and the other, open end of which comprises a cord plaited through the fabric, into which pouch is positioned the root section together with a clod of earth, and which cord is tightened and tied.

Abstract: A high strength, self loading, gravity biased security lock for positive securement of doors, windows and similar closures is disclosed. The security lock includes a pair of mounting elements, i.e., a bolt assembly and a latch assembly, formed for rapid and simple mounting of the assemblies to external surfaces of a door and door frame without the need for modifying or altering the construction of the door. The assemblies can be mounted to either right or left opening doors or floor mounted, and the fastening elements used to mount the security lock to the door are located in inaccessible positions when the lock is in the latched condition.
Abstract: An air pressure differential energy generation system comprises a stack for conduction of air from a high to a low atmospheric pressure level. A vapor injection device within the stack provides a method of filling the stack at least in part with water vapor. A heat exchanger is provided at the high atmospheric pressure end of the stack. A turbine is coupled to the heat exchanger and is impelled by warmed air. An electrical generator is coupled to the turbine to provide electrical power.
Abstract: A hospital mattress is formed with a plurality of passages opening to its normally top body-supporting surface; a plurality of members are mounted for reciprocation in the passages and formed with body-engaging ends normally disposed at or below the surface in a body-supporting position thereof; means is provided for simultaneously displacing the members or engaging and elevating a body on the mattress and to provide horizontally spaced access spaces between the body and the mattress; and movable gurney arms are formed to enter the access spaces for receiving, supporting and transfer of the body onto the gurney. The apparatus is adapted to operate in a reverse fashion to transfer the body from the gurney to the bed.

Abstract: A master valve adapted for insertion in a fuel line to be controlled and a fluid-pressure-responsive actuator responsive to fuel line pressure for maintaining the valve in open position against the resistance of a valve-closing spring; and a normally closed earth-movement-responsive auxiliary valve connected to the fuel line and the aforesaid actuator and functioning in response to a predetermined minimum severity earthquake to open the auxiliary valve and equalize the pressure in the actuator to effect closing of the master valve by its closing spring.
Abstract: Head actuated control apparatus for use in controlling the motion of a battery-powered wheelchair is disclosed. The apparatus is designed for use by the quadriplegic patient and includes a rheostat-type controller mounted to the wheelchair headrest and provided with cup means formed for engagement by the back of the head of the user or patient to enable displacement selectively in any one of four directions to control forward, rearward and turning motions. Additionally, the control apparatus includes head actuated switches mounted to the headrest proximate the cup and electrically connected to recline or raise the back of the wheelchair.
Abstract: There is disclosed a process for producing continuous, multicolored glass objects, such as stained glass windows without leading, which includes blowing a glass object, maintaining at least one colored pattern piece in contact with the surface of the object until the pattern piece becomes soft enough to be blown and then blowing the object to a final form whereby the pattern piece becomes incorporated in the glass object. Sheet material may be produced by blowing a cylinder, splitting the cylinder and flattening the cylindrical wall.
Abstract: A fluid heater which includes a housing having a curved outer wall and two flat walls with a tangential inlet for hot gas in the curved wall, and a central outlet for exhaust gas in one flat wall, and having within it a stack of flat helices of tubing for carrying the fluid to be heated in a plurality of parallel paths, and with a first fluid passageway connecting from the outside of the housing to the inner turn of each helix, and a second fluid passageway connecting from the outside of the housing to the outer turn of each helix, and with the first fluid passageway being positioned between adjacent helices to be in contact with the tubes of adjacent helices, correspondingly located with respect to the first passageways of other helices, and bending toward the inner turn of each helix in the direction of hot gas flow from the periphery toward the center of the housing is disclosed.
Abstract: A vacuum-operated, pressure-responsive valve is adapted for connection to the intake manifold of an internal combustion engine for monitoring supplemental airflow to the engine, the improvement of the present device providing precise adjustment of the supplemental airflow/intake manifold pressure relationship. An air cylinder, a pressure-responsive piston/valve mounted therein, a threadably mounted axially extending stem and valve-biasing spring, and a resiliently deflectable plate are assembled and cofunction to provide precision click stop adjustment of the supplemental airflow/engine vacuum relationship.

Abstract: There is disclosed a dispenser for masking tape capable of dispensing indefinite lengths of tape in a straight line immediately adjacent to a molding or the like, which dispenser includes a base plate with a straight edge for contacting the molding to be abutted with tape and a rounded edge at an obtuse angle to the molding-contacting edge with the rounded edge having a terminal lip in the plane of the molding-contacting edge so that the tape can pay out over the rounded edge but cannot slide over the molding-contacting edge. The device is also provided with means to hold a spool of tape with the circular edge of the spool that is nearer the molding-contacting edge lying in a plane that includes that edge.
Abstract: An electrical testing instrument including an amplifier circuit having a pair of inputs, one comprising a probe and the other being adapted for manual engagement by the user for completing an input circuit through the body of the user. The circuit has a battery and a current-responsive indicator in its output circuit to provide a signal when current flows in the input circuit to provide a critical forward biasing of the amplifier. The battery is connected to furnish such input current when the input terminals are connected in a closed circuit having a resistance of at least approximately the resistance of the user's body. The amplifier circuit is further arranged that when the probe is contacted with a live AC power line and the manually engageable input terminal is so manually engaged, an operating indicating current will also be present in the output circuit.
