  • Patent number: 8259676
Abstract: Various security mechanisms may be used independently, or in combination with one another, to authenticate the identity of a node during the Mobile IP registration process. First, an Access Point receiving a packet from a node verifies that the source MAC address identified in the packet is in the Access Point's client association table. In addition, as a second mechanism, the Access Point ensures that a one-to-one mapping exists for the source MAC address and source IP address identified in the packet in a mapping table maintained by the Access Point. As a third mechanism, a binding is not modified in the mobility binding table maintained by the Home Agent unless there is a one-to-one mapping in the mobility binding table between the source MAC address and the source IP address. Similarly, the Foreign Agent may also maintain a mapping between the source IP address and the source MAC address in its visitor table to ensure a one-to-one mapping between a source IP address and the associated MAC address.

  • Patent number: 8257866
Abstract: Provided are examples of electrochemically active electrode materials, electrodes using such materials, and methods of manufacturing such electrodes. Electrochemically active electrode materials may include a high surface area template containing a metal silicide and a layer of high capacity active material deposited over the template. The template may serve as a mechanical support for the active material and/or an electrical conductor between the active material and, for example, a substrate. Due to the high surface area of the template, even a thin layer of the active material can provide sufficient active material loading and corresponding battery capacity. As such, a thickness of the layer may be maintained below the fracture threshold of the active material used and preserve its structural integrity during battery cycling.

  • Patent number: 8261218
Abstract: Systems and methods for determining clock-path connection delays are described. The systems include a memory configured to store information, and a processor coupled to the memory. The processor determines whether a clock delay applied to a first storage node changes independently of a clock delay applied to a second storage node. The processor determines ideal path delay changes to apply to the first node upon determining that the delay applied to the first node changes independently of the delay applied to the second node. The processor further determines clock path connection delay changes to apply to a group or a collection of the first and second nodes upon determining that the delay applied to the first node cannot or should not change independently of the delay applied to the second node. Such grouping or collections help resolve any conflicts between the first and second nodes and improves processor efficiency by applying the methods to the group or collection instead of each of the individual nodes.

  • Patent number: 8255681
Abstract: A network and associated methods and apparatus are described. The network includes a wireless access node which is operable to receive first packets from a plurality of wireless computing devices attempting to access the network. Each of the first packets corresponds to one of a plurality of traffic types. At least one of the traffic types corresponds to an encrypted wireless protocol. The wireless access node is configured to associate one of a plurality of identifiers with each of the first packets. Each of the plurality of identifiers corresponds to one of the plurality of traffic types. The wireless access node is further configured to transmit all first packets received from the wireless computing devices to a gateway on the network regardless of destination addresses associated with the first packets. The gateway is operable to determine that a particular one of the first packets from a first one of the wireless computing devices is directed to a second computing device on the network.

  • Patent number: 8254394
Abstract: According to specific embodiments of the invention, a technique is described for providing constant bit rate (CBR) service over shared access channels in a computer network. The technique of the present invention provides a plurality of linked lists of grant allocation elements at the head end of the network for implementing CBR service to requesting nodes on each shared access channel. Each grant allocation element corresponds to a respective unsolicited CBR grant allocated to a particular node on a selected channel. A CBR service request sent by a particular node to the head end is handled by an admission control engine within the head end. If admission control admits the CBR service request, it inserts one or more unsolicited grant allocation elements relating to the admitted request in at least one of the plurality of linked lists. Each linked list of grant allocation elements is used to generate a CBR portion of a respective, fixed size, grant allocation MAP message.

  • Patent number: 8251807
Abstract: A disclosed gaming machine is designed to execute a modular gaming software architecture. A plurality of gaming software modules may be loaded into RAM on the gaming machine and executed to play a game of chance. Many of the gaming software modules are designed to communicate via application program interfaces so that the logic in many of the gaming software modules may be designed independently of each other. In particular, the modular gaming software architecture allows a game flow software module used to generate a game of chance on the gaming machine to be decoupled from a game presentation software module used to present the game chance. Thus, a group of games may be designed where the games share a common game flow software module but use different game presentation software modules to change the look and feel of the game.

  • Patent number: 8254013
Abstract: A controller or control method may be designed or configured to operate without information about the current temperature of the device and/or the device's environment. Further, in some cases, the controller or control method is designed or configured to control transition of an optical device to an intermediated state between two end states. For example, the controller may be configured to control a transition to a state of transmissivity that is intermediate between two end states of transmissivity. In such case, the device has three or more stable states of transmissivity.

  • Patent number: 8251806
Abstract: A player is permitted to participate in an interactive gaming event from a remote location, such as a hotel room or home computer, once the player's entitlement to participate has been confirmed using a biometric identifier. One method of the invention includes first verifying the identity of a potential player of a gaming event, such as by verifying the age of the player. If verified, the fingerprint of the player is obtained and the fingerprint is stored in association with an assigned identification code. When a player requests to participate in a gaming event from a remote location, the player's identification code is received from the player and is used to locate the corresponding stored fingerprint. The player then transmits their scanned fingerprint. If the transmitted fingerprint and stored fingerprint match, the player is verified as entitled to participate in the gaming event.

  • Patent number: 8253420
Abstract: A detection circuit and one or more wires or circuit traces are included in a die. The combination is used to detect mechanical failure of the substrate, e.g. silicon after singulation of the dice from the wafer. Failures may be detected at different regions or planes within the die, and the tests may be performed during operation of the packaged die and integrated circuit, even after installation and during operation of a larger electronic device in which it is incorporated. This is especially useful for chip scale packages, but may be utilized in any type of IC package.

  • Patent number: 8255860
Abstract: Slacks or timing weights are determined during implementation of an electronic design to improve design optimization. Multiple failings paths are optimized simultaneously by generalizing the notion of constraint relaxation used when computing slacks and timing weights to apply to portions of the design that can be independently optimized, rather than strictly adhering to clock domains and other coupled timing constraints used by conventional relaxation-based approaches. Improved calculation of slacks or timing weights better guides optimization algorithms.

  • Patent number: 8255702
Abstract: Techniques of the present invention impede power consumption measurements of an encryption engine on a logic device by running the encryption engine with an independent clock. This clock produces a signal that is decoupled from and asynchronous to clock signals feeding other circuits on the device. The clock feeding the encryption engine is not accessible externally to the device. Circuits may be employed to intentionally slow down or add jitter to one or more of the clock signals.
