  • Patent number: 8298936
Abstract: Metal seed layers are deposited on a semiconductor substrate having recessed features by a method that involves at least three operations. In this method, a first layer of metal is deposited onto the substrate to cover at least the bottom portions of the recessed features. The first layer of metal is subsequently redistributed to improve sidewall coverage of the recessed features. Next, a second layer of metal is deposited on at least the field region of the substrate and on the bottom portions of the recessed features. The method can be implemented using a PVD apparatus that allows deposition and resputtering operations. This sequence of operations can afford seed layers with improved step coverage. It also leads to decreased formation of voids in interconnects, and to improved resistance characteristics of formed IC devices.

  • Patent number: 8291252
Abstract: Gaming machines and related methods for controlling and managing electrical current to peripheral devices in a gaming machine are described. A gaming machine having multiple high-current peripheral devices drawing power from a single power supply within the gaming machine is able to regulate the timing at which the peripherals may receive power. The gaming machine may be a multi-station gaming machine, such as a gaming table, where each station has various standard peripheral devices. The gaming machine determines whether the power required by the peripherals at any given time will exceed a threshold current supply and, if so, delays the operation of one of the peripherals to regulate the amount of current the power supply has to supply at any given time. Current usage and time overlaps of two or more peripheral devices are determined using current profiles of the devices.

  • Patent number: 8287673
Abstract: A method of joining dissimilar materials having different ductility, involves two principal steps: Decoration of the more ductile material's surface with particles of a less ductile material to produce a composite; and, sinter-bonding the composite produced to a joining member of a less ductile material. The joining method is suitable for joining dissimilar materials that are chemically inert towards each other (e.g., metal and ceramic), while resulting in a strong bond with a sharp interface between the two materials. The joining materials may differ greatly in form or particle size. The method is applicable to various types of materials including ceramic, metal, glass, glass-ceramic, polymer, cermet, semiconductor, etc., and the materials can be in various geometrical forms, such as powders, fibers, or bulk bodies (foil, wire, plate, etc.). Composites and devices with a decorated/sintered interface are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8287957
Abstract: The present invention provides improved and compositions methods for replicating substrate patterns including patterns containing irregular features. The methods of the invention involve depositing block copolymer materials on a patterned substrate and ordering components in the material to replicate the pattern. In some embodiments, ordering is facilitated through the use of blends of the copolymer material and/or configuring substrate patterns so that regions of the substrate pattern interact in a highly preferential manner with at least one of the components in the copolymer material. The invention also provides compositions containing a substrate pattern with irregular features replicated in a block copolymer material.

  • Patent number: 8288288
Abstract: Methods that increase the overall rate of heat transfer between a substrate and a heat sink or source, e.g., in a loadlock are provided. According to various embodiments, the methods involve varying the heat transfer coefficient of a heat transfer gas in the loadlock or other chamber. The heat transfer coefficient is varied to reduce the time-dependent variation of the rate of heat transfer. As a result, the overall rate of heat transfer is improved. In certain embodiments, the methods involve varying the gas pressure of a chamber in order to affect the rate of heat transfer to a wafer within a system. By manipulating the gas pressure accordingly, the rate of heat transfer is controlled throughout the heating or cooling cycle.

  • Patent number: 8287354
Abstract: The present invention provides methods and devices for providing a bingo game having aspects of a poker game on a network of gaming machines. Some implementations include a bingo card display in which areas of a bingo card correspond with playing cards. Some such implementations provide first phase of a bingo game that is concluded when a player daubs a game-ending pattern of a bingo card and a second phase wherein players may establish interim wins by daubing other patterns that correspond to poker hands. In some implementations, only the highest-ranking interim win results in a payout. Preferred implementations provide games with easily recognizable bingo play and payout probabilities similar to existing bingo games.

  • Patent number: 8282983
Abstract: Apparatus and methods to minimize wafer-to-wafer process variation in RF-based semiconductor processing reactors with shared RF source for multiple processing areas. RF sensors associated with each processing area sends signal to the RF balance controller. The controller modifies station impedance using power adjustment mechanisms. As a result, station to station distribution of a selected RF parameter (e.g., load power) may match the station set points. Closed loop control maintains balance despite changing conditions.

  • Patent number: 8282473
Abstract: Methods and systems for issuing cashless instruments and providing a printer interpreter for a gaming machine are disclosed. A printer and specialized printer interpreter (controller) are provided to facilitate the conversion of a specific credit amount to a currency amount in differing units (first form of currency), and the subsequent issuance of a cashless instrument reflecting that currency amount. Where the printer interpreter is reconfigurable, a second currency amount in different units (second form of currency) could also be selected. Multiple different currencies and their corresponding languages can be available to the printer interpreter, such that a given credit amount can be issued to a cashless instrument in one of many different currencies. Game execution operations of the MGC are isolated from the printer interpreter, such that recertification of the gaming machine or system is not necessary when reconfiguring the printer interpreter from one form of currency to another.
