  • Patent number: 5327735
Abstract: The present invention relates to a refrigerant recycling and reclaiming system capable of removing refrigerant from a refrigeration machine for filtering and reclaiming of the refrigerant, whereupon the refrigerant can be either stored or reintroduced into the refrigeration machine and reused rather than being lost to the atmosphere or otherwise wasted. The recycling and reclaiming system of the present invention is characterized in that it includes an evaporator and/or refrigerant storage tank which are contained within a thermal barrier, typically a water bath, which permits the system to operate at lower temperatures and pressures than systems heretofore known in the art. Lower temperatures and pressures in turn require a much smaller horsepower compressor unit resulting in a decrease in the physical size and operating cost of the system.

  • Patent number: 5327245
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for combining a plurality of television signal channels which are immediately adjacent in frequency to each other. A main transmission line transmits a plurality of television signals therethrough in a predetermined direction of transmission. The visual signal of a first of the television channels is inserted into the main transmission line in the predetermined direction. The visual signal of a second, immediately adjacent television channel is then inserted into the main transmission line in the predetermined direction, using a frequency band otherwise occupied by the aural signal of the first television channel as a guard band to separate the combined visual signals of the first and second television channels.

  • Patent number: 5313062
Abstract: A method of automatically and accurately accomplishing focusing and astigmatism correction in an electron beam apparatus such as a scanning electron microscope. The electron beam is raster scanned to scan a specimen in two dimensions. If the obtained signal intensity distribution curve has only one peak, the peak position P2 of a curve obtained by raster scanning the beam vertically is detected. The peak position P1 of a curve obtained by raster scanning the beam horizontally is detected. An intermediate position P0 is calculated, using the formulaP0=(P1+P2)/2The intensity of excitation of the objective lens is adjusted to this intermediate position P0. In this way, if two peaks cannot be obtained by a horizontal raster scan of the beam, depending on the state of the surface of the specimen, it is possible to accurately bring the beam into focus at the position of the circle of least confusion. After this focusing operation, an automatic astigmatism correction is made.

  • Patent number: 5309216
Abstract: A method of determining particle size distributions in the range of from about 0.03 to 10 .mu.m by measuring the spectral light extinction during sedimentation of particles suspended in a transparent liquid in a centrifugal field. The light transmissions through the suspension of light of different wavelengths are measured in response to the settling time and the particle size distribution is determined from the light transmissions measured. No knowledge of the optical data of the particles is needed. The integral equation to be solved for that purpose is given. A wide particle size range can be covered precisely within short times of analysis.

  • Patent number: 5306251
Abstract: A hand held device for injecting a fluid (such as a vaccine) or an object (such as a transponder) beneath the skin of an animal, the device comprising a mounting (2) for receiving a conventional hypodermic syringe (5,6,7), a weight (7) (which may be part of the plunger fitted within the syringe) for acting on the plunger (7) of the syringe and a slapping plate (3), being arranged so that when the device is swung into contact with an animal so the needle (6) of the hypodermic syringe pierces the animal's skin and the device is brought to a sudden halt as the plate (3) slaps against the animal, the momentum of the weight (7) acts to push the plunger (7) into the syringe and so propels the fluid or object held therein into the animal.

  • Patent number: 5305769
Abstract: A power spray washing machine includes an enclosed wash cabinet positioned above a wash holding tank and a rinse holding tank. Openings are provided through a floor of the wash cabinet directly into the wash and rinse tanks, respectively. Vertical plug valves are associated with each opening to open and close the openings and control the flow of fluids therethrough. Each valve includes a first valve head moveable between a closed position in direct contact with and closing the opening and an open position out of contact with and uncovering the opening. The valve heads retain no fluid between the floor of the wash cabinet and the holding tanks when the valve head is in the closed position. By this arrangement, cross contamination of solutions between the wash and rinse holding tanks is minimized or eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5302071
Abstract: Fugitive dust generated by a bottom dumping railroad hopper car is captured by a dust containment system. The dust containment system includes an open railroad track segment for supporting the car above a hopper pit defined by enclosed end walls, an interconnecting rear sidewall and a partially open front side. A building structure encloses the track segment and hopper pit and includes roof mounted ventilators for emitting fresh air to the interior thereof. A backhoe device is positioned above the car to assist in discharging material. Air passageways are formed on opposite sides of the track segment with motorized dampers positioned therein. Dust collector units are positioned adjacent to the front side of the hopper pit. The fans of the dust collectors induce a draft from the roof ventilators downwardly along the sides of the rail car, through the air passageways to the hopper pit.
