  • Patent number: 5612142
Abstract: Wood and other cellulose-based products are preserved with a water-based treating solution containing a phenolic resin prepolymer such as phenol formaldehyde resin prepolymer, a resorcinol formaldehyde resin prepolymer and water. The treatment is carried out by exposing the wood or other cellulose-based product, while submerged in the treating solution, to one or more cycles of reduced pressure (i.e. vacuum) and elevated pressure.

  • Patent number: 5551719
Abstract: Tricycle vehicles of the type in which the rider provides the power for moving the vehicle, and more particularly, to improvements in the steering action and drive arrangement of tricycle vehicles of the type described. The tricycle includes a worm/worm gear arrangement that permits the steering wheel to be rotated about either rotational axes of the worm or worm gear to effect turning. A steering wheel clamping arrangement and slip clutch are also provided.

  • Patent number: 5490315
Abstract: In the continuous manufacture of hot strip material, slabs are produced by a pair of continuous casters and heated to a rolling temperature in a bi-level roller hearth furnace. Hot slabs are discharged from the bi-level furnace alternately from its upper and lower roller hearths. The slabs are then scarfed to clean oxide scale from both sides and to heat the slabs to a temperature of about 2300.degree. F. The scarfed ends of adjacent slabs are overlapped and passed through a two high slab mill welder wherein the overlapped ends are joined together. The joined slabs are thereafter finish rolled to strip gauge in a continuous multi-stand hot strip mill.

  • Patent number: 5478523
Abstract: A machinable, graphitic steel is disclosed having a composition in weight % of about 1.0 to 1.5 total C; 1.0 to Si; 0.3 to 1.0 Mn; up to 2.0 Ni; up to 0.5 Cr; up to 0.5 Mo; up to 0.1 S; up to 0.5 Al; balance Fe and incidental impurities. The steel is hot worked and cooled to precipitate a controlled amount of graphite for improved machinability and to achieve a controlled amount of matrix carbon for enhanced physical properties. A matrix carbon content of between about 0.2 to 0.8 weight % is desired. The steel may be further heat treated to yield further variations in the microstructure and physical properties.

  • Patent number: 5478052
Abstract: A carriage is disclosed for holding and guiding a tool along a specified path on a workpiece at a controlled, substantially constant speed. The carriage has at least one drive roller disposed on a bed with drive means for rotating the drive roller. A pair of idler rollers are attached to the bed in opposed relation to the drive roller. A pair of transverse rollers are mounted on the bed and are adapted to ride along an upper edge of a flange disposed on the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5460231
Abstract: A device for augering a conical hole in a solid medium that includes a first elongated member that extends along a longitudinal axis and a cutting blade having a cutting section and a non-cutting section coupled to the first elongated member. The rod is adapted to be rotated about the longitudinal axis. A motor is coupled to the first elongated member which rotates the cutting blade about the longitudinal axis. A shroud is provided through which the first elongated member passes. The shroud attaches to a hydraulic unit. Activation of the hydraulic unit causes the first elongated member to move in a longitudinal direction, which causes the cutting blade to move in a radial direction thereby forming a conical hole in a solid medium. The device is used for forming holes used in foundations and anchors. Also disclosed is a method of operation of the device to form a conical hole in solid media.

  • Patent number: 5361618
Abstract: A method and apparatus for adjusting a set of bending rolls which simultaneously position a pair of adjustable top bending rolls with respect to a bottom bending roll. A bottom bending roll is mounted within a housing while a pair of adjustable top bending rolls is mounted on a frame. A pivot shaft is rotatably mounted on the housing with eccentric portions of the pivot shaft coupled to the frame. Rotation of the pivot shaft causes the simultaneous adjustment of the pair of adjustable bending rolls with respect to the bottom bending roll.
