  • Patent number: 4195718
Abstract: A retractable shaft structure for interconnecting a unit, such as a constant speed drive, to a power source, such as an engine gear box, wherein the unit has an input drive axis and the gear box has an output drive axis and the unit is moved transversely to said axes to bring the axes into alignment. A drive shaft defining the input drive axis and carried by the unit has a drive input end extending beyond said unit for connection into driving relation with an output shaft of the gear box. The drive shaft is mounted for adjusting movement along the input drive axis to have the drive shaft retracted during said transverse movement, followed by extension thereof. Rotatable mounting structure, independent of the unit, mounts the drive input end of the input shaft and is held in fixed relation therewith to move with the drive shaft during said adjusting movement and said rotatable mounting structure is releasably connectable to the gear box to be held in fixed relation thereto.

  • Patent number: 4195764
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of joining, by brazing, two metal pieces at least one of which is a powdered metal piece, each piece having a joint surface. The method includes the step of plating the joint surface of the powdered metal piece with a thin layer of metal having a relatively high melting point, assembling the pieces with their joint surfaces in substantial abutment, and applying a metal brazing composition having a flow temperature at least about 300.degree.-400.degree. F. or more less than melting point of the plating metal to the joint surfaces while heating the joint with a torch. The method eliminates the need for rigorous temperature control customarily employed in powdered metal brazing.

  • Patent number: 4195563
Abstract: An improved instrument for measuring and indicating the load experienced during a cycle of a machine, as a reciprocating press. A piezoelectric transducer mounted on the press provides a signal which is proportional to the press frame deformation during operation. In one aspect of the instrument, the signal from the transducer is amplified and compared with reference voltages representative of excessive machine load and a minimum load level. During each cycle of operation either a NORMAL, UNDER or OVER (LOW, OK or HI) indicator is actuated. The NORMAL indicator remains on so long as the machine load is within the selected limits represented by the reference voltage. A safety circuit stops the press when an excessive load is experienced. In another aspect of the instrument, the reverse load experienced by the machine is detected.

  • Patent number: 4193830
Abstract: A system is disclosed for laminating surfacing materials, such as high and low pressure laminates, paper, wood veneers, metal foils and the like to core material, such as plywood, particle board, flake board, hard board, rigid plastic foams and the like. The disclosure includes a machine and a method of laminating, particularly utilizing high viscosity, hot melt adhesives. A sandwich is formed at ambient temperature with the adhesive between the laminate and core either as sheet material or precoated on the laminate or the core. The method employs a progressive heating of the adhesive and adjacent parts of the sandwich from ambient temperature through tackiness to an activating temperature followed immediately by a physical migration of the adhesive to wet out adjacent surfaces followed by a cooling of the sandwich to a mechanical bonding adhesive temperature.

  • Patent number: 4193467
Abstract: A brake assembly for a vehicle is mounted directly on the vehicle frame with the brake caliper straddling a brake disc carried directly on the vehicle drive line. The brake is spring applied to grab the disc and to prevent rotation of the drive line. Air pressure is used to release the brake such that loss of air pressure as when an air hose ruptures or when the air reserve is consumed by usage will permit the spring to lock the brake and prevent rotation of the drive line. The brake can be applied when the engine is running by releasing the air pressure on the brake.

  • Patent number: 4192227
Abstract: A beverage brewer structure wherein a pour-in basin is provided with an overlying wall member for preventing liquid which may inadvertently pass downwardly through the top wall of the brewer housing from falling into the basin so as to avoid contamination of the water to be used in the brewing operation. The housing may include a top wall having an opening in which is mounted a warming station and the protective structure is arranged to prevent water or liquid from passing downwardly from the warming station opening into the basin. The wall member may be inclined toward an edge portion of the basin so as to cause the undesirable liquid to flow away from the basin. The wall member may be suitably heated as by heat transfer association with the water heating tank of the beverage brewer so as to cause evaporation of the undesirable liquid which may fall thereonto.
