  • Patent number: 6287041
Abstract: An adapter for attaching to the edge of a door, such as a freezer door, to permit coupon dispensers, display devices and the like to be mounted to the edge of the door. The adapter is held in place with a clamp that bears against the door handle. The adapter includes a mounting plate perpendicular to the door so that a coupon dispenser or other display device can be mounted substantially parallel to the door. The mounting plate includes a portion of a price rail so that the same coupon dispensers and mounting brackets used with grocery shelves may also be used with the present invention. The price rail may be a separate piece that is welded to the mounting plate or formed from the same piece of material as the mounting plate.

  • Patent number: 5991876
Abstract: An electronic rights management and authorization system to account for the dynamic, multi-dimensional, and granular nature of rights. A database structure divides works and rights into two related tables. A works table includes information sufficient to identify works managed by the system, while a rights table identifies a right associated with a work and includes one or more date fields delimiting the right. The rights table may also include type of use information. Additional tables, such as a work relation table, a party table, or an order table, may be provided. Software is used to manage and to query the database structure. The system has broad applicability to intellectual, real, and personal property; contract management; and similar items. The system may be implemented in standalone mode, through the client/server model of computing, or over the Internet.

  • Patent number: 5915256
Abstract: A multimedia method and apparatus for presenting to a user a story using a bimodal spine is disclosed. The first mode is substantially passive and relates the story in a narrative presentation of synchronized audio and image information. The second mode is substantially interactive and relates the story in text or in text and associated image information. The script used for the audio presentation is identical to the script used for the text presentation. The system permits the user to freely transfer between the two modes while maintaining narrative continuity between the modes, and it also allows the activation of hypertext features from either mode. The system provides for enhanced features, including a library function, an "Interactive Poll" feature, a "Face-to-Face" interview feature, and sponsor advertising.

  • Patent number: 5905498
Abstract: Computer software and a user interface for information management are provided in which semantic networks may be entered and analyzed. The user interface for entry of the semantic network uses a windows environment to enter the nodes and the arcs connecting the nodes. Arcs may serve as sources or destinations for other arcs. The software includes a first data structure relating to the structure of the semantic network and a second data structure relating to the display of the semantic network. Additional data structures may be used to show the semantic network in group, table, and other forms. Two illustrative applications are described for Internet Management and Resource Management.

  • Patent number: 5879159
Abstract: A portable, high power arc lamp system for composite curing and tooth whitening applications utilizes battery cells to power a lamp, such as a short-arc xenon lamp. The use of battery power allows for a high power system without the need for costly components required if ac power were used. Battery power is acceptable for low duty cycle applications such as composite curing and tooth whitening. The batteries may be recharged using either standard 110 V or 220 V house current and a charging circuit is included to charge the batteries. An elliptical reflector is used to direct the light from the xenon lamp to a flexible light guide. The system of the present invention is particularly suited to the curing of dental composites and tooth whitening procedures. Significantly improved methods of curing and whitening may be realized through the use of a high power light source of the present invention.

  • Patent number: 5847710
Abstract: A method for generating images that appear as complex three-dimensional surfaces when viewed using a stereoscopic viewing system, using only a minimum amount of data to define the images. The stereo contours of a complex three-dimensional surface are drawn using a three-dimensional computer drawing system and three-axis input device. The drawing is viewed with a stereoscopic viewing system using, e.g., a CRT where the left and right eye images are time multiplexed in sequential fields and liquid crystal shutter glasses synchronized with the CRT display. Simply by drawing closed loops in space, filling the closed loops with color, and drawing a minimum number of other stereo contours, an image is created which appears to define a complex three-dimensional surface.

  • Patent number: 5823025
Abstract: A lock for a motorcycle has a generally U-shaped construction. The open end of the U is slipped over the brake rotor of the front wheel or the sprocket of the rear wheel of the motorcycle. A bolt then extends across the open end of the U-12 shape to hold the device in place. This bolt is engaged by a spring loaded pin so as to hold it in position. Rotation of the wheels is then prevented by contact between the lock and the brake calipers on the front wheel or the chain or sprocket on the rear wheel. In order to release the bolt, a cam and a spring biasing the pin in the opposite direction are provided so that rotation of the cam allows the pin to be withdrawn from the bolt. The lock includes a lock-out mechanism which prevents the motorcycle from being started when the lock is in place because the lock-out mechanism retains the ignition key. In addition to the lock, a single loop cable can be provided for attachment about a stationary object and received within a channel in the lock.
