  • Patent number: 4437316
Abstract: Method and apparatus for recovery of waste heat from thermomechanical pulping systems and the like in which waste heat in the form of steam exhausted from the mechanical pulper and latency chest portions of the thermomechanical pulping system are respectively passed through first and second evaporators which increase the enthalpy of the working liquid. The working fluid outputted from the first evaporator passes through a first compressor to significantly increase both pressure and temperature and further increase enthalpy. The working fluid at the outlet of the first compressor then undergoes desuperheating within an intercooling tank. The liquid phase of the working fluid is passed from said tank to the inputs of both evaporators, while the vapor phase merges with the working fluid outputted from the second evaporator and enters a second compressor to undergo further increases in pressure and temperature.

  • Patent number: 4430286
Abstract: Method for making a molded resin-impregnated fibrous article having relatively dense surface layers separated by a less dense region. The article is made by disposing curable resin-impregnated compressible fibrous layers in a mold cavity the layers being separated by a medium which is collapsible by heat before impregnating resin cures in fiber regions adjacent said medium. Upon heating, the collapsible medium shrinks or is absorbed and the adjacent fibrous material expands to fill the space left by the collapsing medium.

  • Patent number: 4429971
Abstract: An apparatus for testing an automatic electronic flash is used with the combination of a single lens reflex camera of TTL direct photometry type and a TTL automatic electronic flash. The apparatus includes a test switch which is connected in parallel with a synchro contact contained in the camera for initiating the emission of flashlight and which is closed to test the emission of flashlight from a flash discharge tube. In this manner, by closing the test switch, the emission of flashlight from the electronic flash can be tested and the amount of illumination controlled by an exposure control circuit contained in the camera, without operating a shutter.

  • Patent number: 4426785
Abstract: Sheets moving in a feed direction and arranged at spaced intervals are fed through nips arranged to rollingly engage opposing sides of the sheet, each nip being formed by a roller rotating about a fixed axis and a cooperating swingably mounted roller. Resilient adjustable biasing means urges an assembly upon which the swingably mounted roller is pivotally mounted, as well as an arm forming part of the pivotally mounted roller assembly, in a first direction. A sensor is positioned adjacent the free end of said arm. Sheets moving through said nip cause displacement of said pivotal assembly against the biasing force in accordance with the thickness of the sheet passing through the nip. The biasing means comprises a thick, and accurate resilient element designed to permit the roller assembly to follow even abrupt thickness changes rapidly and accurately without experiencing overshoot or undershoot.

  • Patent number: 4426144
Abstract: A power supply unit shared by a camera's motor drive and an electronic flash comprises a timing circuit which becomes operative at the termination of a shutter release operation, or a detector which detects the energization of a motor contained in the motor drive. Either timing circuit or detector operates to feed the motor drive or the electronic flash in alternate fashion in time so as to prevent both the motor drive and the electronic flash from being simultaneously fed from a single common d.c. source.

  • Patent number: 4426145
Abstract: A lens shutter camera includes a distance adjusting mechanism which is operated by the rotation of a single ring in one direction as it is driven by a drive source such as a motor. A distance adjustment is performed by a movement of a movable taking lens barrel in the direction of an optical axis thereof. Rotation of the ring in the other direction operates a lens shutter mechanism to open the shutter blades. A shutter closing spring is charged by a shutter controlling electromagnet, and is enabled to close the shutter blades.

  • Patent number: 4425974
Abstract: A stack of signatures is delivered to a weighing platform which measures bundle weight. A stored bundle weight is subtracted from the measured bundle weight to yield a difference which is compared against the stored reference weight of an individual signature. If the difference is a multiple of the weight of an individual signature, an indication of a count error is given. If the aforesaid difference is greater than the weight of an individual signature but is not an integral multiple of that weight, an indication of a possible combination error is given. If the difference is less than the weight of an individual signature, a recalibration is initiated to substitute the reference weight per unit with a new value prior to initiation of the next measuring cycle. In the presence of a combination error pattern, a manual count check is made on the subsequent sample to insure a correct count and a recalibration is then initiated.

  • Patent number: 4426143
Abstract: An overexposure indicator for an automatic electronic flash produces a time factor signal of a given duration after an emission terminate signal is delivered to an electronic flash. When the amount of flashlight emitted by the electronic flash reaches an arbitrary multiple of a proper value of exposure, a detection output is produced. The indicator indicates the occurrence of an overexposure whenever detection output is produced during the time the time factor signal is present.

  • Patent number: 4420153
Abstract: Document handling apparatus for determing the fitness of documents such as paper sheets, paper currency and the like and including a feed mechanism for feeding documents in a single file through an examining location. Documents pass through the examining location and are examined for relative limpness or stiffness, density (i.e. clean or dirty,), perforations, cuts, tears, holes and the like, missing and/or folded corners and a test for document genuineness. Based upon the results of the tests, the sheets, which are still moving at high speed in a single file after examination, are directed toward a rotatably mounted gating roller which, dependent upon the condition of the examined sheets, is rotated either in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, at extremely high speed, to deflect sheets toward either of two possible output paths. The gating roller may be either a continuous or dicontinuous member.

  • Patent number: 4420547
Abstract: A photosensitive member for electrophotography comprises a first and a second photoconductive layer sequentially formed on a conductive layer. The first photoconductive layer has a spectral sensitivity extending over a range of light rays from ultraviolet rays to visible light. The second photoconductive layer is of light transmissibility, which is formed with a single or a compound layer and has a filtering action to transmit only light of longer wavelengths than a given one so as to define a range of light incident upon the first photoconductive layer, and a spectral sensitivity only to rays of shorter wavelengths than the given one.

  • Patent number: 4417352
Abstract: Apparatus for imparting a delay to an input signal utilizing counter means comprised of a plurality of binary coded decimal counter stages connected in cascade. The high frequency input signal applied to the counter undergoes a divide-by 10.sup.N operation wherein N equals the number of binary coded decimal stages. Preferably, the least significant stage is adapted to be selectively and periodically preset to a binary coded decimal value different from its normal reset state to either increase or reduce the number of pulses required to cause the counter stage to read a terminal count to selectively either advance or retard the phase of the reduced frequency output signal developed at the output of the counter relative to the phase of the input signal applied to the counter in accordance with a preprogrammed value set into said counter stage.
