  • Patent number: 4412659
Abstract: A mill is described for progressively shredding material such as garbage, tires, aluminum cans, waste paper, etc. into loose particulate material. The mill includes a hopper that is movably mounted to a shredding wheel frame. The hopper includes an open bottom end into which the shredding wheel projects. The hopper is driven to reciprocate along a straight path over the wheel to bring the contained material into wheel contact. Provision is made to vary the depth of cut taken by the wheel in response to loading conditions of the associated drive motor by automatically adjusting a feed grate mechanism relative to the wheel.

  • Patent number: 4411035
Abstract: A maternity care bed having an elevationally adjustable framework supported on a floor. A patient support surface of a central seat section is movably mounted on the framework about a pivot axis adjacent the head of the bed. A head section is pivoted to the seat section. A foot section is located adjacent the remaining end of the seat section. It is also pivotally mounted adjacent the head of the bed for elevational adjustment of both the seat and foot section independently of one another. The foot section includes a patient support surface that can be raised to a position in which it serves as an extension of the patient support surface of the seat section. It also can be lowered and retracted beneath the seat section while the seat section is in a raised position.

  • Patent number: 4411386
Abstract: In a center pivot irrigation system, an apparatus for controlling the spray pattern delivered by an end gun having at least one adjustable stop by varying end gun travel along an end gun delivery path. A sensing means detects changes in wind condition and produces a signal corresponding thereto. The signal thus produced operates an end gun controlling means which is adapted to adjust the end gun stop and vary the path of end gun travel. By this means, end gun spray pattern is maintained as a function of current wind condition.

  • Patent number: 4411444
Abstract: A load equalizer for attachment to the gooseneck front end of a trailer connected by a fifth wheel hitch on the bed of a towing truck. The structure includes a rigid arm pivotally mounted relative to the trailer. It movably supports a post which engages a pad mounted to the truck bed. The arm and post transfer a portion of the weight of the towed trailer to the truck bed at a location forward of the fifth wheel hitch and truck rear axle so as to balance the respective load carried by the front and rear wheels of the truck while towing the trailer.

  • Patent number: 4408777
Abstract: An implement hitch assembly is described that can be removably attached to an implement and to a towing vehicle. The hitch assembly includes apparatus by which the implement frame is allowed to pivot freely about a selected axis relative to the towing tongue frame when the implement is in a lowered, operative position. Pivotal motion is transferred to a different pivot axis on the hitch assembly when the implement is elevated. The former pivot axis is locked in the raised position of the implement and selected resistance to pivotal motion about the other axis is provided to enable safe transport of the implement.

  • Patent number: 4406564
Abstract: A transportable submerged breakwater is described. The breakwater includes a pair of vertical parallel concrete walls spaced apart from each other. The walls have floatation cells containing buoyant means. The walls have a density slightly less than that of sea water and float in a substantially submerged condition with a top horizontal wall edge at or slightly above the water surface. Rigid members space the walls and rigging means provide tension to hold the walls against the rigid members.

  • Patent number: 4405171
Abstract: A stabilizing device is described for bracing an ambulance attendant in proper position for administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while the ambulance is in transit. The device is roof mounted and includes two pivoted arms that may be selectively moved from horizontal storage positions, adjacent the ambulance roof to substantially vertical downward operative positions. Shoulder pads are slidably mounted to the arms. The attendant may lean against the pads to secure himself in proper position for administration of CPR. The pads are slidable on the arms to allow free vertical motion of the attendant's shoulders and to automatically adjust for shoulder height.

  • Patent number: 4405851
Abstract: An apparatus and process for depositing metal from one conductor to another by electrode deposition. One conductor, the electrode, may remain in contact with the other conductor, the workpiece, as the electrode is continuously oscillated about a central electrode axis. Short duration, high amperage charges are directed through the oscillating electrode and the workpiece. The charge duration is controlled by the charging rate of a capacitor in a charging circuit. The rate of capacitor discharge is prescribed by an independently triggered thyristor. Extremely short duration discharges at a high discharge frequency results in deposition of the electrode material onto the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4404433
Abstract: A telephone call monitoring apparatus is described for monitoring a subscriber's telephone to determine the time of day in which incoming or outgoing telephone calls are made and the duration of the calls. Additionally the apparatus determines and records the telephone number of the "called" telephone. The apparatus is responsive to the frequency, duration and pause between ring back signals placed on the telephone to determine the estimated time that the call is answered by the called telephone.

  • Patent number: 4403696
Abstract: The envelope assembly comprises a rectangular front panel and a complementary back panel which together form an envelope for initial use in the delivery of an insert. First and second tear lines are formed across the two panels, respectively. The first tear line, formed across the front panel, is spaced inwardly from one side of the envelope a distance greater than the corresponding separation between the second tear line and the one side of the envelope. An insert formed within the envelope is secured between the front and back panels along said one side. By pinching the envelope and exerting a pulling force on it, from its opposite sides, the envelope can be burst. This separates the insert and a removable portion of the envelope along the first and second tear lines. The separation between the first and second tear lines exposes a portion of the back panel that extends outwardly from the first tear line.

  • Patent number: 4397426
Abstract: A shoe bracket assembly is described for mounting an impeller shoe to the horizontal rotatable turntable of a vertical shaft centrifugal crushing machine. The shoe bracket includes removable wear protector plates on opposed end faces thereof. The plates protect the rigid base member of the bracket assembly against wear. The wear plates are slidably mounted to the base member by slidable dovetail connector members and are locked into place between abutment surfaces on the base member and a back face surface of the impeller shoe. The plates can be easily removed and replaced following removal of the impeller shoe.

  • Patent number: 4395220
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus and a process for forming building blocks by consolidating a mixture of cement and fibrous material. The process involves placing a charge of the mixture into a mold, compressing the mixture within the mold, inserting rotors into the mixture within the mold to consolidate and displace the mixture while forming hollow cores through the formed block, and removing the rotors from the formed block and the block from the mold. The apparatus includes a mold, a mold cover, means that apply pressure to the mold cover to compress the material placed within the mold rotors, means for spinning the rotors as they are lowered into and raised from the mixture by raising and lowering means. The block is formed on a removable pallet resting on lips within the mold. The pallet defines apertures substantially aligned with the rotors; the apertures allow for release of pressure when the rotors are withdrawn from the formed block.
