  • Patent number: 4497911
Abstract: Process for the production of fine particulate, expandable styrene polymers by suspension-polymerizing styrene or possibly mixtures of styrene and other monomers having at least 50% by weight of styrene in the presence of expanding agents having low boiling points in incompletely filled reactors. The polymer beads to be charged with expanding agents are vigorously stirred during the addition of the expanding agent(s) in such a manner that these beads undergo the least possible contact in time and space with the gas phase and with each other, and so that the surface of the stirred medium retains a topology as free as possible from a funnel shape during stirring.

  • Patent number: 4496636
Abstract: In a process for depositing a coat of paint on wood-cement boards manufactured by pouring a strewable mixture of fibers and binder onto press plates and then stack-pressing, with a coat of paint being applied to the board surface after pressing, the board shall be provided with a coat of paint of extremely long life approximately corresponding to the life of the board. This problem is solved by the invention in that a binder liquid colored-through with an inorganic dye is deposited on the layer of the strewable layer poured on the press plate and that the press plate together with the layers so deposited is fed to the press.

  • Patent number: 4496231
Abstract: The exposure meter is used in mirror reflex cameras wherein an image of an object projected by a picture taking lens onto an image plane is observed by means of a pentaprism through an ocular. For the purpose of the selective integral or spot exposure metering, a pentaprism (6) is provided at the lower edge of its exit surface with a partly transmitting concave mirror (16). The angles of the pentaprism (6) are selected so that a portion of the light flux leaving the exit pupil (EP) of the picture-taking lens (2) is incident on this concave mirror (16). A first photoelectric detector system is associated with the concave mirror (16) and a second detector system is associated with the prism surface (6c) following the concave mirror in the direction of the beam path, and the output signals from these detectors control a display and/or an exposure control. An additional optical component (13,14a,15b,15) is provided to implement a desired beam path in the pentaprism (6).

  • Patent number: 4490357
Abstract: Interferon is produced in-vitro from whole blood, obtainable from animals or humans including blood from corpses or retroplacental blood, in a simplified non-critical process preferably carried out in a sterile system of interconnected plastic bags. The blood is stabilized and innoculated with an interferon inducer before culturing in an incubator. This results in interferon containing blood useful directly for transfusions or further processable to obtain a variety of therapeutic interferon containing preparations including plasma, serum and albumin in accordance with disclosed phases of this invention. Interferon carrying plasma is thus separated and treated further to isolate interferon carrying serum or albumin, if desired. In-vivo innoculation to produce antibodies before taking blood provides improved disease fighting characteristics in the derived product.
