Abstract: A seal assembly for use in conjunction with a trocar assembly includes a seal body adapted for sealing about an instrument inserted through the trocar assembly. The seal assembly also includes a protector adjacent the seal body for protecting the seal body from instruments passing through the seal body. The protector comprises a plurality of protector segments woven together in a non-planar arrangement.

Abstract: A method is disclosed that produces allografts from matrices typically containing demineralized bone matrix (DBM) powder, demineralized bone matrix gel, demineralized bone matrix paste, bone cement, cancellous bone, or cortical bone and mixtures thereof. The matrices are sterilized utilizing supercritical CO2 in the presence of a sterilizing additive and an entrainer such as an alkaline earth metal compound, preferably CaCO3. The resultant allograft materials have a reduced rate of rejection when used in allograft procedures including, bone, cartilage, tendon, and ligament grafting procedures.

Abstract: A surgical suturing apparatus includes a suture housing, a needle mounted within the suture housing for movement about an arcuate path, and a drive assembly operably associated with the needle for controlling movement of the needle with a suture secured thereto about the arcuate path in a manner facilitating application of the suture to tissue. The drive assembly includes a friction camming member that moves along the suture housing under the control of the drive mechanism, wherein actuation of the drive mechanism causes the friction camming member to selectively engage and disengage the needle causing the needle to move about the arcuate path.

Abstract: A seal assembly for permitting hand assisted laparoscopic procedures includes a seal cap having a seal positioned within a housing. The housing includes a lower seal ring having a track which supports an upper seal ring for relative rotational motion, wherein the seal is supported between the upper seal ring and the lower seal ring for rotation between an open orientation and a closed orientation. The track includes an inner upstanding annular wall and an outer upstanding annular wall connected by a base member. A ratchet mechanism controls motion of the upper seal ring relative to the lower seal ring. The ratchet mechanism includes a ratchet arm oriented to engage a ratchet surface. The ratchet surface extends outwardly from a center of the seal assembly.

Abstract: An endoscopic instrument to be used with an endoscope. The instrument includes an elongated tube having a distal end and a proximal end, an end effector attached to the distal end of the elongated tube, and a handle attached to the proximal end. The handle includes a mechanism for attaching the instrument to a first vacuum source. The handle further includes a second vacuum source integral with the handle for amplifying the first vacuum source, whereby the first and second vacuum sources combine to operate the end effector.

Abstract: A single handed articulating blunt dissector/gastric band application device includes a support shaft connecting a handle at a first end of the device to an articulating assembly at a second end of the device. The handle includes an actuation mechanism linked to the articulating assembly for controlling movement thereof. The second end includes a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the distal end includes a blunt distal tip shaped and dimensioned for dissecting tissue without unduly causing trauma to the tissue. The second end also includes a suture grasping notch shaped and dimensioned for engaging and pulling a gastric band.

Abstract: A cuffed-catheter removal device includes a handle and a shaft extending from the handle. The shaft extends from the handle to a distal end of the cuffed-catheter removal device. At the distal end of the cuffed-catheter removal device the shaft includes a C-shaped shaft member with a concave recess shaped and dimensioned for attachment and tracking along an exposed catheter shaft.

Abstract: A hose tender is provided for use with a CPAP system. The CPAP system includes a breathing mask connected to a CPAP air generator via a hose. The hose tender supports the hose above a user in a convenient and safe manner. The hose tender includes a support arm including a first end and second end. The first end of the support arm is provided with an arcuate coupling portion and the second end is provided with a hose engaging portion. The hose engaging portion includes a cantilevered section secured to the second end of the support arm such that a longitudinal axis of the cantilevered section is oriented substantially perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the support arm; wherein the cantilevered section includes an abutment member and a return portion with an horizontal line member connected therebetween. The hose tender also includes a clamp for selectively securing the support arm to a support surface.

Abstract: An exercise apparatus includes a support frame upon which is mounted a curvilinear track, the curvilinear track substantially conforming to a runner's footpath while striding. A first foot engaging support is secured to the curvilinear track for movement thereabout while exercising in accordance with the present invention. A resistance assembly is secured to the foot engaging support for applying resistance as a user moves the foot engaging support about the curvilinear track. A slide including a curvilinear carriage rides upon the curvilinear track and a first user engaging support is coupled to the slide for movement about the curvilinear track. A linear carriage rides upon a linear carriage rail supported by the support frame and a resistance assembly is coupled to the linear carriage. A slide bar links the curvilinear carriage of the slide to the linear carriage for the application of resistance as the user engaging support is moved about the curvilinear track.

Abstract: An irrigation system having at least one water distribution member, a water supply source and a horizontally oriented, shut-off control device located in a fluid flow line between a water supply source and the at least one water distribution member for automatically shutting off the flow of supply water to the at least one water distribution member in response to a predetermined increase in force of fluid flow. The shut-off control device has a housing with an interior flow path having rails and projections dimensioned to support a compressible ball which moves within the housing and limits side-to-side motion or turbulence.

Abstract: An encryption system includes a plurality of encryption operations including individual encryption operations and group encryption operations available for application in the encryption of data. The plurality of encryption operations are selected from the group consisting of functional variance, functional alignment, mathematical offset, wide XOR function, short logical rotation, long logical rotation, functional order, and address encryption. The system includes at least one round of encryption composed of a first encryption operation and a second encryption operation. The first encryption operation is selected from the plurality of encryption operations acting upon input data to generate a first encrypted data set. The second encryption operation is selected from the plurality of encryption operations acting upon the first encrypted data set to generate a second encrypted data set. The first encryption operation and the second encryption operation are different.

Abstract: It is, therefore, an object of the present invention to provide a needle stick protection device. The device includes a housing shaped and dimensioned for positioning about a syringe with an attached needle. The housing includes a first housing member telescopically coupled to a second housing member. A locking member is associated with a first slot of the first housing member for selectively engaging a first detent to control positioning of the second housing member relative to the first housing member. The locking member includes a first lateral retaining recess formed within the first slot for seating of the first detent when the second housing member is in its forward most position, the first lateral retaining recess being circumferentially located along a side of the first slot. The needle may be selectively covered and uncovered by selective alignment of the first detent with the slot in manner permitting controlled motion of the first housing member relative to the second housing member.

The housing including a first aperture formed in a first wall of the housing. The first driver includes a cone coupled to a driver magnet for generating sound. The driver magnet is seated within the first aperture exposing a portion of the driver magnet to an exterior of the housing. The driver magnet is encircled by a foam gasket member, the foam gasket member being shaped and dimensioned to permit airflow about the magnet.

Abstract: A flooring panel includes a decorative upper surface and a lower surface. The flooring panel further includes a plurality of edges extending between the decorative upper surface and the lower surface. The plurality of edges are shaped and dimensioned for selective coupling with adjacent flooring panels, wherein each of the plurality of edges includes an edge profile having at least a male coupling member or a female coupling member. The flooring panel also includes at least one notched transition section that extends between one of the plurality of edges of the flooring panel and the decorative upper surface of the flooring panel. When adjacent flooring panels are brought together, the at least one notched transition section of the adjacent flooring panels defines a grout receiving recess into which a material may be poured for creation of the a grout line between the adjacent flooring panels.

Abstract: A surgical instrument for applying a fastener to tissue. The fastener includes a male component including a base having a hole, a needle receivable in the hole, and a female component including a base and a recess for receiving the needle. The instrument includes a shaft, a first jaw pivotally mounted on the shaft including a receiver for holding the base one component, and a second jaw statically mounted on the shaft including a receiver for releasably holding the base the other component. The first jaw is moveable between an open position and a closed position. The first and/or second jaw includes a channel for slideably receiving a needle. The instrument includes a mechanism for moving the first jaw between the open and closed positions and an ejector for driving the needle through the hole in the male component, through tissue and into the recess of the female component.

The handle includes a first handle member shaped and dimensioned for gripping by an individual. The first handle member has a first longitudinal axis. The handle also includes a second handle member shaped and dimensioned for gripping by an individual. The second handle member has a second longitudinal axis. The first handle member and the second handle member are connected such that the second longitudinal axis of the second handle member is oriented approximately perpendicular relative to the first longitudinal axis of the first handle member.
