  • Patent number: 7318121
Abstract: A data storage device mirrors data on a data storage medium. The multiple instances of data are synchronized in order to optimize performance of the reading and writing, and the integrity of the data. Preferably, a data storage device is allowed to defer writing multiple copies of data until a more advantageous time.

  • Patent number: 7210113
Abstract: Cells are placed into an integrated circuit floorplan by creating clusters of cells in modules, each cluster being composed of cells in a path connected to at least one flip-flop in the module, or of cells that are not in a path connected to any flip-flop. Regions are defined in the floorplan for placement of modules, and the clusters are placed into optimal locations in modules and placing the modules into optimal locations in the regions. The coordinates for the wires, modules and clusters are selectively recalculated. The clusters are moved in the floorplan for more uniform density, and the modules are assigned to regions based on module coordinates.

  • Patent number: 6882487
Abstract: An apparatus and method for compensating for variation in sample rate in a disc drive having a rotating disc and a head that is positioned over the rotating disc is provided. The disc includes at least one track that has multiple consecutive sectors. A sample rate value between timing marks of each pair of consecutive sectors of the multiple consecutive sectors is computed to obtain a sequence of sample rate values. A sequence of timing error values is computed as a function of the sequence of sample rate values and a nominal sample rate value. Data related to the sequence of timing error values is utilized to compensate for variation in sample rate values.

  • Patent number: 6577402
Abstract: A sensor has an interferometer which measures a change in an applied environmental condition relative to a reference environmental condition. The interferometer is operated under the applied environmental condition to generate an interference spectrum. Intensities of the interference spectrum are measured at first and second wavelengths, respectively. The first and second wavelengths correspond to first and second reference intensities that are separated from one another by an odd number of extrema in the interference spectrum when the interferometer is operated under the reference condition. Measurement of the change in the applied environmental condition is based on the measured intensities and the first and second reference intensities.

  • Patent number: 6548009
Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling twist curvature of a disc head slider is provided, where the slider has a bearing surface, a back surface, which is opposite to the bearing surface, a longitudinal axis and a transverse axis. The apparatus obtains a measure of the twist curvature of the bearing surface and selectively alters material stresses in a working surface of the slider. The material stresses are altered asymmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis and the transverse axis based on the measure of the twist curvature to induce a change in the twist curvature.

  • Patent number: 6296595
Abstract: An instrumented orthopedic restraining device is provided. The device includes an ambulatory housing, including first and second distal end portions, and restraining means for restraining movement of the first and second distal end portions relative to one another. The restraining device preferably includes an elongated restraining bar equipped with a stress sensing mechanism for sensing stress on the restraining bar. A control unit is provided for indicating sensed stress based upon outputs from the stress sensing mechanism. Preferred embodiments include a plurality of strain gauges attached to the elongated restraining bar and interconnected with the control unit which preferably includes a recording mechanism and a microprocessor mechanism. The elongated restraining bar alternately includes an adjustable hinge interconnecting distal end sections of the elongated restraining bar, wherein the angle between the respective distal end sections can be adjusted relative to one another.

  • Patent number: 5976106
Abstract: The balloon catheter comprises a catheter tube surrounded distally by an elongated inflatable balloon. Throughout the catheter tube is a longitudinal lumen for positioning a radioactive radiation emitter within the balloon. The catheter comprises a second lumen for directing inflation fluid into the balloon. Belt means creating a waist are mounted on the balloon to squeeze it down to nearly the diameter of the catheter thereby leaving a small passage for the inflation fluid. The belt means divide the balloon into sections to assure a close center fit of the catheter within the balloon.
