  • Patent number: 4309776
Abstract: An intravascular device having a chamber for containing transplanted cells. The device is adapted to be implanted in a wall of a blood vessel with a porous chamber-forming wall of the chamber providing an interface between the cells in the chamber and the blood in the vessel. The chamber-forming wall has a pore size permitting continuous diffusion of hormonal components therethrough but blocking the diffusion of cells. The device may also be implanted between an artery and a vein in a wall of each so as to act as a sieve between the artery and vein subject to the differential pressure therebetween. A method is also disclosed for employing the device to introduce hormonal components into the blood stream.

  • Patent number: 4308683
Abstract: A trap anchoring stake for anchoring an animal trap in soft or loose soils where in the past excessive stake length has been required to keep the trapped animal from pulling out the stake. The stake has a spring arm connected to the bottom of the stake for outward pivoted movement, and adapted to retain the stake in the ground by lateral pressure on surrounding soil, or by lateral penetration of the top end of the spring arm into the soil, or both. A spring arm latch is provided for connection to a trap tether chain operable to automatically release the latch by movement of a trapped animal, in case the trapper forgets to release the spring arm. An abutment limits outward movement of the spring arm to an acute angle to the stake, and the arm and stake constitute obstruction means which will hang up on brush or the like if the trapped animal succeeds in pulling the stake out of the ground.

  • Patent number: 4294488
Abstract: A vehicle seat including a recliner and inertia latch, in which the inertia latch is normally in latching position but upon initial limited forward movement of a seat portion it is permitted to move to release position. In the event of deceleration, the latch remains in latching position and prevents forward movement of the seat. The seat frame is of relatively light construction and means are provided which avoid interference with structure interposed on the axis of the pivot connection of the seat back to the seat, insuring simultaneous identical latch actuation at opposite sides of the seat.

  • Patent number: 4287863
Abstract: An emission control method is disclosed for the current, conventional, piston type, spark ignition, gasoline or equivalent fueled internal combustion engine having at least one cylinder. The method of the present invention increases the engine's fuel economy upwards of 70% from its current level. The emission control method being accomplished by engine modifications including a dual induction system adapted to provide to the engine a relatively low (lean) fuel content and therefore a relatively low power fuel-air mixture. This accomplishes an increased fuel economy and a substantially emission free exhaust, as pertains to the fuel alone. The dual induction system includes a heated intake supplying all of the fuel to the engine in a highly-heated state and a small percentage of the total inducted air, equally as highly heated. The dual induction system also includes an unheated and relatively much larger capacity cold air intake adapted to supply all of the unheated air inducted by the engine.
