Abstract: A flameout detection system for an engine that facilitates detection of flameout in the engine in a cost-effective and reliable manner is described. A method implemented by the device includes the steps of detecting a rate of change of gas generator speed, also described as engine deceleration rate, and declaring a flameout if a deceleration rate of the engine is greater than a pre-determined threshold.
