  • Patent number: 6131359
Abstract: A spacer clip for securing side-by-side joists and a method for using such clips is provided. The spacer clip, constructed from sheet metal or a rigid composite includes a bridging section and a pair of legs that extend transversely to the bridging section. A draw bar is provided along the legs at positions remote from the bridging section. The draw bar is movable to vary the pressure applied by the legs to confronting sections of joists. The draw bar can be locked in a pressure-applying orientation with respect to each of the legs. In this manner, the joists are spaced by the bridging section at one end of their height and the draw bar pressurably spaces them at an opposing end of their height.

  • Patent number: 6113344
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sorting books of sheets in which individual books are generated in succession is provided. This process entails the stacking of cut sheets that form a completed book in an offset arrangement relative to adjacent books. Each offset stacked book is removed from the other books by applying a lifting force between the lowest book in the stack and the next book in the stack while the lowest book in the stack is allowed to bend away from the next highest book in the stack. The bend forms a space, tunnel or separator entrance opportunity into which a projection or other separator structure is directed. The lowest book is lowered onto a conveyor and moved away from the stack. The process continues for each successive next-highest book in the stack. A support mechanism is provided to maintain the lowest book at a selected elevation as the projection moves inwardly. The support moves away concurrently to deposit the lowest book on the conveyor.

  • Patent number: 6092913
Abstract: A fluorescent fixture having high efficiency and a low profile is provided. The fixture includes a housing having a central well with a pair of tubular fluorescent bulbs mounted therein and extending in a lengthwise direction. Each bulb is surrounded by a double-trough specular reflector with a local peak that extends from the base of the well, toward the bulb. The local peak is positioned generally along a centerline through the bulb. A pair of maximum trough bottoms are positioned on each of opposing sides of the centerline. The reflector configuration reflects a substantial amount of incident light away from the bulb surface and out from the fixture opening where it is needed. The housing includes a pair of sloped outer sides that extend in a widthwise direction away from the reflector outwardly to opposing widthwise edges of the housing to enable light reflected from the reflector to be transmitted toward the widthwise edges of the housing free of obstruction thereto.

  • Patent number: 6058671
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing for expansion and contraction in modular building panels provides a quickly insertable shim structure that can be placed between modular building panels adjacent bolt that secures the panels together. The shim is inserted into a gap formed between two adjacent members that are to be joined from a location external to the panels. The shim is U-shaped so that it passes over a bolt for securing the members together. When the bolt is tightened, the shim forms a permanent gap-forming structure. The adjacent members can be vertical members or horizontal members. This shim is inserted at a location on the adjacent members between interconnected transverse members so that the transverse members can expand into the gap with corresponding flexure about the shim of the adjacent members.

  • Patent number: 6061541
Abstract: An improved developer roll magnet for a toner cartridge provides a strip of magnetic material that extends axially along a surface of the developer roll magnet located coaxially within a developer roll sleeve. The strip of magnetic material can be seated within a groove in the magnet and can extend radially outwardly above the surface of the magnet. The strip is generally adhered to the magnet by mutual magnetic attraction and can be made adjustable to move toward and away from the developer roll sleeve. The strip is typically located adjacent a nip formed between the developer roll sleeve and the image transfer drum of the cartridge to provide enhanced toner release for greater print yield and quality.
