  • Patent number: 4319683
Abstract: A case for holding and carrying plumbing connections, tools and the like when closed has two opposed hinged doors covering one face of the case, the free edges of which doors meet midway between the opposed hinges. A handle held centrally above the open face of the case when the doors are opened and secured to the box allows the use of the open case as an open work tray. Brackets attached to the inside faces of the doors provide a resting place for a second case thus allowing stacking of the cases for a parts bin to be used at a job site.

  • Patent number: 4293119
Abstract: A tool for use by one hand for removing staples from upholstered furniture has an upper and a lower pivotably connected and spring biased open needle nose jaws, the lower jaw of which is pivotably connected to a primary handle so that a short arm of the primary handle extending beyond the pivot connecting the primary handle to the lower jaw extends towards the points of the needle nose jaws to act against a short arm of the upper jaw to close the upper jaw against the lower jaw when the lower jaw has been forced under the bridge of a driven staple and the arm pressed down to pry the staple out of the wood in which it has been driven thus clamping the bridge of the staple to the tool during removal.

  • Patent number: 4234350
Abstract: A process for the purification of evaporated sugar solutions prior to cryllization, utilizing the discovery that most of the suspended non-sugar particles within the evaporated sugar solution are hydrophobic in nature and thus thrown out of solution during the loss of water during the evaporation process, by thoroughly mixing air in large quantities with the evaporated sugar solution containing such particles and repeatedly subjecting the mixture of air, sugar solution and non-sugar particles to high shear forces by a surging flow with flow reversals through an aerator so as to produce a uniform creamy mixture of micron size bubbles to which the non-sugar particles are intimately and mechanically attached, having moved out of the evaporated sugar solution because of the hydrophobic character of the particles. Optionally, this aggregation of the particles with the micron size bubbles may be further increased by a controlled addition of an anionic partially hydrolized polyacrylamide following aeration.

  • Patent number: 4234349
Abstract: Apparatus for the purification of evaporated sugar solution prior to cryslization in which the evaporated sugar solution is mechanically transformed in an in-line continuous process into a homogeneous creamy mixture of sugar solution and hydrophobic particles of non-sugars attached to micron size bubbles from which the sugar solution is separated. The apparatus through which the evaporated sugar solution is passed to so transform it for purification includes, in order, an open-top pump supply tank into which the solution is discharged to revolve about an outlet in the tank so as to form a vortex in the tank outlet drawing large bubbles of air into the solution, a standpipe connecting the tank outlet to the inlet of a centrifugal pump having a high speed impeller with straight radial blades, the standpipe and supply tank having such a relationship to the pump as to provide a pump suction static head only slightly greater than the vapor pressure of the evaporated sugar solution.

  • Patent number: 4185811
Abstract: A clamping mechanism for C-clamps, wrenches, vises and other work holding equipment has a detent as a means to hold the jaws open in a work receiving position with the moveable jaw free of the fixed jaw; a spring or weight bias with dash pot for gentle slow closing bringing the moveable jaw against the work as the work is held against the fixed jaw; a reciprocable manually operated one-way clutch mechanism having a drive and return stroke acting on a sliding plunger supporting the moveable jaw to apply added clamping force on the work between the fixed and moveable jaws; a second one-way clutch engaged with the clamp frame acting on the moveable jaw plunger to hold the moveable jaw in clamping position when the manually operated one-way clutch is in the return stroke and thus not holding the plunger; and a clamp release mechanism which releases the two one-way clutches thus allowing the clamp to be opened against the force of the moveable jaw bias only.

  • Patent number: 4159668
Abstract: So that explosives can be placed in an underwater hole in rock efficiently, a rock drilling machine having a rock drill mounted for extension and retraction on a strut which can be forced against a surface to be drilled, has a short debris guard tube fixed to the strut so as to extend beyond the terminus of the strut so that the debris guard may be forced against and held against the surface of the rock to be drilled. In such a machine having a very long strut and drill rod for drilling holes in rock submerged at a depth of water over four feet, a drill guide tube fixed to the strut between the debris guard and the drill has a full length door. After the hole has been drilled to depth, the drill rod is retracted from the debris guard and deflected to one side (and out of the drill guide tube door of the long strut version) and a long explosives placement tube is inserted through the debris guard tube into the hole. The debris guard is then slipped off and freed from the placement tube by retracting the strut.

  • Patent number: 4089985
Abstract: An improved papaya juice product is obtained by use of a process in which fresh papaya meat with any of a variety of combinations of water, sugar, honey, salt, citric acid, lemon juice, and ascorbic acid are placed in a high speed blender, covered, homogenized for at least ten minutes at about 195.degree. F (91.degree. C), for at least three minutes for a thorough pasteurization simultaneously with homogenization. Following blending, the material is placed in containers to be held at room temperature, under chilled refrigeration, or frozen.
