Abstract: An applicator system is provided for storage and retrieval of applicator strips from a container to be used for applying a liquid preparation to a user's body. An elongated applicator strip is hand held for the user to apply the liquid preparation on remote body parts, such as the back. The applicator strips can be sealed in the container to prevent the evaporation of the liquid preparation contained therein. The applicator strips have laminated layers including an absorbent first layer to receive and retain the liquid preparation. A non-absorbent stabilizing second layer is included to provide strength and dimensional stability. Preferably, the strip includes two outer first layers and one middle second layer. Each elongated applicator strip is preferably about 36 inches in length and about 4.5 inches in width.
Abstract: A rechargeable device that stores and discharges hydrogen is described. The device stores hydrogen in a solid form and supplies hydrogen as a gas when needed. The solid storage medium may be metal hydride in a ground particle form that avoids the need for compaction or other treatment. Dividers partition a container into separate chambers, each provided with a matrix, formed from an appropriate material like a thermally-conductive aluminum foam, which forms a number of cells. For proper chamber size, the ratio of chamber length to container diameter should be between about 0.5 and 2. Metal hydride particles (or other hydrogen storage medium) may be placed within the cells, which help prevent excessive particle settling. The container is provided with a hydrogen transfer port through which hydrogen gas passes upon either discharging from or charging of the metal hydride particles. A filter may be placed within the port to allow hydrogen to flow but prevent particles from escaping.
Abstract: A composite shaft comprising at least two axial segments of dissimilar materials, the segments being held together by a central tie-bar, wherein a segment of material least subject to radial expansion is provided with a coaxial male member extending axially from its end, and the cooperating segment subject to greater radial expansion is provided with a female skirt shrunk onto the male member in the assembly of the shaft and also being provided with an annular upstand, at or towards its peripheral edge and directed towards the cooperating segment, the upstand being held by the compressive force of the tie-bar always in full annular contact with its cooperating segment. The male member is of smallest practicable diameter and the upstand is of largest practicable diameter.

Abstract: A method for increasing the dissipation of heat from one portion of a surface when heat is applied to another portion of the same surface. The preferred composition is a gel or paste with high water content and a thickener of a mineral clay in a colloidal suspension. The invention finds particular use in welding and soldering processes which are carried out adjacent heat sensitive materials.
Abstract: A finishing composition and method for applying the composition to a fabric woven from glass fibers or from a blend of glass fibers and other fibers such as polyamide or polyester. Such finishes significantly enhance the flex life of woven glass fabrics by improving the acid and alkali corrosion resistance of the fibers. The finish, which comprises fluoropolymer and epoxy resin, can be loaded into the fabric in multiple baths. Filtration products can be fabricated from the finished fabrics and they are especially useful for making filter bags used in the bag houses for central power generating stations and similar industries.

Abstract: A portable engine hoist which folds into a compact storage position. The base of the hoist is equipped with two support wheels. Two elongated legs extend from the base and are adapted to receive leg extensions. The leg extensions are provided with wheels at one end and the other end can be inserted into a leg. An upright post extends from a base support and carries a pivotally mounted lifting beam at its top end. A mechanical or hydraulic jack operates to raise and lower the lifting beam to raise and lower an engine. Position adjustment and maintenance means for easy assembly of the leg extensions are provided. A cam slot locking means associated with the lifting beam provides stability under the load.
Abstract: The following heel brace and method to reduce heel pain by securing a strap on the outer side of the ankle and bringing the strap under and up to a securing means on the opposite side of the foot whereby the calcaneus or heel bone is rotated to change the contact point of the heel and ground surface.
Abstract: A composite fiber prepared by wrapping a core of polyethylene filaments having a dielectric of less than 3.0 with a direct sized quartz fiber to provide a composite fiber and fabric woven therefrom with improved high temperature strength and low dielectric constant.

Abstract: An ink box for a stencil duplicator comprises a flexible pouch within a rectangular parallelepiped-shaped carton and having a discharge fitment penetrating the carton and the container. The panel in which the discharge fitting is formed is substantially rectangular and is held substantially flat by two bracing seal lines which are parallel to one another and extend transversely to a longitudinal seal line in which the fitting is sealed. The opposite end of the bag has a gusset defined between short inclined seal lines. A flow inducer fitment within the pouch defines continuous flow paths from the tips of spreader arms of the flow inducer fitment to the discharge fitting.

Abstract: A portable steel drum assembly for use in a marching band includes a first steel drum having a defined playing surface including a first set of predefined indentations defining a first set of notes and a second steel drum having a defined playing surface including a second set of predefined indentations defining a second set of notes. The first and second steel drums each have a diameter less than twenty-two inches providing the steel drum assembly with sufficient lightweightness and compactness enabling a musician to perform the steel drum assembly while carrying the steel drum assembly. A steel drum carrier including a harness and a steel drum mount enables a musician to carry the first and second steel drums.
Abstract: A portable, contained, fueled, ready-to-use campfire assembly having a fire resistant container with an upwardly facing mouth. The container is filled with a mixture of mineral spirits, paraffin wax and hardwood chips. No additional fuel, mixing, pouring, or lighting is required and a long lasting fire is provided that resists moderate winds, is readily extinguished and does not give out dangerous sparks.
Abstract: The invention pertains to a manually operated self-defense device with a battery operated flashlight instrument and a spray device for a self-defense spray. The device comprises two connected housing parts (2, 13). The first housing part (2) contains the lighting instrument. The second housing part (13) contains a compartment into which a spray can (14) is inserted; this spray can compartment has a spray opening (19) and an actuating opening (20). With this arrangement the lighting instrument and the spray device complement and support each other to provide an effective defense.
Abstract: The invention calls for a discrete material (1) such as a gas, a liquid or a living being, to be exposed to electromagnetic radiation from a large-area irradiator (2) causing the molecules to resonate at their natural frequency and hence to become warmer. In order to lower the temperature of the material (1), the radiant energy emitted by its is extracted via a receive antenna (5), resulting in a loss in energy and hence cooling of the material. Working in an enclosed fluid-filled space, the fluid can also be included, by suitable choice of radiation spectrum, in the resonance interaction producing the warming or cooling effect.
Abstract: A data security system envisages the identification of a pre-authorized user of data handling equipment and the storage of both the data processed by that user and the identification of the user, for subsequent accessing by security staff. Unless the user has been pre-authorized, the system will fail to activate even when identity has been established. In one embodiment image data representing a copied original and the identification of the user are stored.
Abstract: Disclosed is an oriented, heat shrinkable, thermoplastic vacuum bag having a protective heat shrinkable patch attached thereto such that said heat shrinkable patch covers substantially all area exposed to bone, thereby protecting the bag from puncture by sharp protruding bones in bone-in cuts of meat which are vacuum packaged within the bags. The protection is especially directed to prevention of bag puncture by, bone-in cuts of both fresh and smoked or processed meat. The bag produced by this method is also disclosed.
Abstract: A method for packaging a product includes the steps of providing a composite film including a non-barrier layer and a peelable barrier layer; providing a bottom web having the product supported thereon; removing a strip of the non-barrier layer from an edge of the composite film so as to provide an extending portion of the barrier layer which extends beyond the non-barrier layer; and sealing the composite film over the product to the bottom web so that the non-barrier layer overwraps the product and is sealed to the bottom web wherein the extending portion of the barrier layer forms a pull tab for peeling the barrier layer from the non-barrier layer.
