Abstract: A method and system for monitoring the temperature of dies during the processing of thermoplastics. A non-contact infrared remote sensor is configured to remotely monitor each die of a cuber extruder. The face of the cuber dies is divided into four quadrants. A sensor is aimed at the center of mass of each quadrant. The selected sensors are equipped with lenses that have an active sensing area that includes the entire surface of the quadrant, but none of the area of the adjacent quadrants. The signal from each sensor is sent to a temperature controller co-processor directly linked to an industrial control computer. The co-processor executes a modified proportional integral derivative algorithm with the response limits tuned to respond specifically to the thermal inertial factors represented by the cuber die ring and the material being cubed. In addition to the remote sensors, additional infrared or ultrasound sensors are used to insure that the air space between the sensors and the dies is unobstructed.
Abstract: This present invention for an in-line fluid heater suitable for heating ultrapure fluids utilizes a radiant energy source that generates infrared radiation to heat a fluid. The fluid to be heated is passed through a vessel such as a tube. The vessel, formed of PFA or polytetraflouroethylene, is coiled around the lamp or lamps. A chamber surrounds the lamp or lamps and the vessel. A temperature sensor at the outlet end of the vessel sends a signal to a controller that adjusts either the flow of fluid through the vessel or the intensity of the lamp or lamps, thereby controlling the fluid temperature at the outlet. The system is useful in any application requiring an ultraclean, non-contact method of raising the temperature of various liquids and gases.
Abstract: A system and method to provide secure communication across the untrusted public switched telephone network includes a set of rules in a security policy which are implemented by a virtual private switched telecommunications network (VPSTN). The VPSTN provides for intercepting voice calls and modifying their set-up to include a request for bearer capability to support a data call.

Abstract: The method and system of the present invention provides an improved technique for replacing, implementing and managing computer-related assets. A technician accesses the World Wide Web through a user's computer. The information resident on the computer, including information regarding the computer and the user's preferences, are downloaded to a remote storage medium through the World Wide Web. Once downloaded, all information may be removed from the user's computer. Subsequently, the technician accesses another computer such as, for example, a new computer that has been assigned to the same user. The technician accesses the World Wide Web through the new computer and downloads the information previously stored on the remote storage medium. This information can then be used to install the user's prior applications, settings and preferences on the new computer.
