  • Patent number: 8110803
Abstract: This invention relates to optical sighting apparatus systems, and to methods for visualization and for identifying remote target surface areas without physical contact for the purpose of measurement and/or of treatment of the remote surface. An arrangement of projected light beams indicates the position and size of the target surface in relation to a measurement detector or treatment device, so that the device is accurately directed to the target. In a preferred arrangement separate laser beams form a light distribution indication or brightness pattern at the target and the device is sighted toward the pattern on the target surface area.

  • Patent number: 7966737
Abstract: A kitchen appliance for cutting cuttable material such as vegetables, fruit, etc., with a main body. The appliance comprises a guide surface on which the cuttable material can be moved to and fro, and a blade which, for cutting, is arranged offset in relation to the guide surface so that a piece is cut off from a cuttable material moved on the guide surface in the guide direction toward the blade. The offset between the blade and the guide surface determines the cutting thickness. The appliance further comprises an exchangeable insert for modifying the cutting thickness.

  • Patent number: 7897908
Abstract: A method and device are described for controlling and/or attenuating aiming laser beam brightness in a hand held radiometer. The beam from the laser is directed at a target measurement surface and a transversely movable element member is interposed between the laser and the target to change the beam brightness on the target. In a preferred device a slidable or rotatable element intercepts the beam between the laser and target and a calibrated opening in the element of selected size and/or shape allows part of the beam to pass through the element to provide a safe brightness at the target.

  • Patent number: 7611278
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a hand-held infrared thermometer or radiometer (1) for measuring, remotely, the temperature of a target surface (3). In one embodiment, the radiometer includes an infrared detector (7), associated optical system (7), and associated circuitry and an LCD display (21). Built into or mounted on the radiometer is a distance measuring device (2), the operation of which is controlled by the radiometer. The device (2) includes an ultrasonic transmitter/receiver (12) and associated circuitry for calculating, from a comparison of the transmitted and received pulses, the distance of the radiometer from the target surface. The distance-to-target is displayed on the LCD display (21).

  • Patent number: 7550725
Abstract: Hand held infrared measurement devices are disclosed, having at least two separated laser sighting emitters (2), which together mark and define a sighting area on a target surface (7,7?,7?). In an embodiment of the invention, separate lasers (2) are provided which each produce a beam (6) used to illuminate a respective separate optical beam directing element (4), mounted between each laser emitter and the target surface (7,7?,7?). The element may be, for example, any of the optical glass fibers, a prism, or a lens, such as a diffraction beam splitter lens, or a refractive lens, each element directing laser light onto the target surface to produce a visually perceptible target marking. The element is preferably made of optical material such as glass or plastic (e.g., methyl methacrylate). Separate laser emitters permit greater brightness displayed on the target within safe operation limits than use of a single laser alone, even with a beam splitter.

  • Patent number: 7537381
Abstract: A radiometer includes a sighting system which generates an image of an area on the surface of an object onto the IR detector. The distance between the object surface and the radiometer is measured by a rangefinder, controlled by the radiometer. From the distance one can calculate the size of the energy zone on the surface, as materialized on a radiometer sighting system display.

  • Patent number: 7400133
Abstract: A speech module (13) comprises an independent self-contained connector module or unit which is adapted to be releasably connected in series with the input to, or output from, a signal sensing apparatus (1). The module is provided with plugs and/or sockets (14a,14b,20) compatible with those of the apparatus (1) so that the module (13) is capable of forming a connector in series with the signal input or output leads (7,8,14). The module is further provided with plugs and/or sockets (30,31) and leads (3,4) to replace the signal input or output leads (7,8,14). The module is connected to a data output socket (12) by means of a lead (14); in the alternative, it is connected to the input connectors (30,31) of the apparatus and is further connected by leads to probes (3,4) equivalent to the standard probes used by the apparatus, which is preferably an electrical multimeter.

  • Patent number: 7307255
Abstract: An infra-red measurement device is disclosed having at least two laser emitters (2) which between them define a sighting area (7,7?,7?). In one embodiment of the invention, two lasers are provided and these are each preferably split into a number of beams by means of, for example, a diffraction grating lens (4). The fact that there are two laser emitting devices, means that effectively twice the power can be utilised since the limit is per laser emitting device, and thus twice the brightness of a conventional device attained. In another embodiment of the invention, four laser emitters (2) are employed and the beams (6) can be split by a diffraction grating as before. The laser emitters in the device can be operated simultaneously, sequentially, or can be pulsed. Having greater brightness than conventional devices, the detectors of the invention are excellent for use in dark or smoky conditions, for example for obtaining the temperatures of car engines, furnaces and the like.

  • Patent number: 7259686
Abstract: A thermoelectric connector module (C) is disclosed which comprises input (2) and output (1E) connectors and contains signal conditioning circuitry (1C). The input connectors (2) are interfaced with a hand-held detector (7), and the output connectors (1E) are connected to signal-utilising apparatus (11). The module does not contain a battery but receives its power supply for the conditioning circuitry from the signal-utilising apparatus supplied via the output connectors (1E). In this way, the module may be miniaturised, making it particularly suitable for mounting directly on a hand-held temperature detector or probe. Since the connector does not have to be opened for a battery replacement, it can be permanently hermetically sealed, providing resistance to dirt, dust, moisture, water and the like.

  • Patent number: 7163499
Abstract: Device for working specifically the abdominal muscles in a staged, global, symmetrical and asymmetrical manner, while protecting the back and encouraging diaphragmatic breathing. The invention concerns a device permitting the toning up of the abdominal muscles and the gradual prolonging of effort. It is made up of a lumbar band fixed to two rings divided into three levels by two teeth, braces fixed at together with a strap. When the user pulls the strap inserted in the ring at a chosen level and holds his stomach in while taking a breath, the device supports, in a staged manner, the work of the abdominal muscles, protects the back and aids diaphragmatic breathing. This device according to the invention is particularly intended for beginners and for people suffering from lumbar pain and obesity.

  • Patent number: 7052175
Abstract: The invention relates to instruments, such as radiometers, which generate a laser beam for striking a target at a distance to assist in aiming the instrument at a selected area of a target. Provision is made for splitting a single beam, used for instance for centering the instrument on the target, into a plurality of beams for creating a pattern or for defining an area on the target. When a single beam is split, the resultant plural beams produced are of relatively lower power, which may be insufficient for visibility on a target at a distance. In a first embodiment the invention provides apparatus to increase the power of the single laser beam when it is split, so as to provide plural beams of appropriately higher power and visibility. In a second embodiment, the invention provides apparatus for attenuating the beam power when a single beam is used, and for removing the attenuation when the beam is split into multiple beams.
