Patent number: 4232567Abstract: The invention provides a power transmission apparatus which includes a hydraulic torque converter and mechanical gears. The torque converter includes a circulatory turbine in addition to the usual output turbine. The mechanical gears include first, second and third gearings. The first gearing connects the circulatory turbine to the converter input shaft. The second gearing connects the first gearing to the converter output member through a unidirectional freewheel. The third gearing connects the second gearing to an output member of the apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1977Date of Patent: November 11, 1980Assignee: Variable Kinetic Drives LimitedInventor: Howard F. Patent number: 4230388Abstract: A connection means serves for the electrical coupling of ends of bus bars situated in protection sheaths, and has clips under the action of resilient members and associated with each phase to be connected, the clips being actuated by as many locking means as there are phases to be coupled. The heads of the locking means have a shape and arrangement such that the mechanical association of the upstream and downstream sheath ends can only be effected in the open state of the clips, while the positive closing of the device can only be effected in the inverse state.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1979Date of Patent: October 28, 1980Assignee: La Telemecanique ElectriqueInventors: Jean-Pierre Thierry, Alain Debionne, Daniel Nourry

Patent number: 4230170Abstract: The present apparatus is for fitting and removing tires from a wheel of an automobile. This apparatus comprises a driven table which can rotate and upon which the wheel is attached, an upright column and a horizontal arm fitted in said column, a bar provided with a tool for fitting and removing the tire, a carriage which can be moved along the arm and in which the bar with tool is vertically suspended and adjustable in height and a single means to fix simultaneously the carriage upon said arm, to fix the vertical bar in the carriage and to locate said bar at a certain angle, so that the tool of the latter is placed in two directions at a predetermined distance from the attached wheel.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1977Date of Patent: October 28, 1980Inventor: Victor Duquesne

Patent number: 4230328Abstract: A device to connect an ejector device, of an injection molding machine, to an ejector pin of a mold used with the machine. The device has a holder with jaws which are radially movable therein for clamping and unclamping the ejector pin introduced into the holder. A spring urges the jaws towards the clamping position, and the jaws can be moved to the unclamping position by a manually operable actuator. A latch can hold the jaws in the unclamped position, and the holder has a releasing element mounted in it and arranged so that when actuated by the ejector pin it allows the spring to bring the jaws into the clamping position to lock the ejector pin.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1978Date of Patent: October 28, 1980Inventor: Hans K. Muller

Patent number: 4228989Abstract: This traction apparatus for hauling in and out a rope, of the type comprising a linkage mechanism adapted to actuate by turns two self-clamping pairs of jaws performing alternate to-and-fro movements, comprises a safety release device coupled to one of the levers of the mechanism, this device comprising essentially a push knob for releasing a two-armed strap normally held in locking engagement with the edges of apertures formed in the half-casings of the apparatus, push members associated with the outer bent arms of this strap and a U-shaped rod surrounded by pre-clamping springs and operatively connected to the strap, so that the rope cannot be released by the clamping jaws unless the operator pushes with both hands the push members subsequent to the depression of the push knob.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1979Date of Patent: October 21, 1980Assignee: Tractell S.A.Inventor: Michel Cavalieri

Patent number: 4225830Abstract: A frequency synthesizer with multiple phase control loops offers the facility of a wide range of frequency adjustment without any discontinuity effects either in frequency or amplitude, and includes at least three phase-controlled oscillators, the first effecting the generation of the smaller steps, the second that of the large steps and the third adding algebraically the frequencies of the two first. On a positive increment of the output frequency, the frequency of the first oscillator (0.sub.1) increases and then decreases, and so on, in two successive perfectly linked modes of operation. The synthesizer may be applied to the construction of a programmable wobbulator.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1978Date of Patent: September 30, 1980Assignee: Adret ElectroniqueInventor: Joel Remy

Patent number: 4199995Abstract: A cylindrical cam is obliquely mounted on a drive shaft to be shiftable in the axial direction. The cam and the drive shaft are concentric at the axial center and the eccentricity of the cam increases gradually towards the opposite ends and in opposite phases. A pair of contact members carried by a follower member engage the opposite sides of the cam. As the drive shaft is rotated a reciprocating motion is imparted to the follower member and by shifting the cam in the axial direction the amplitude of the reciprocating motion can be varied.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1977Date of Patent: April 29, 1980Assignee: Wataru ShimokawaInventor: Saburo Murakami

Patent number: 4194533Abstract: The invention provides a control circuit for a pneumatic shift register constituted by phase cells associated with an assembly of two threshold relays, each having a supply input and a control input which inhibits the output when the pressure that it receives is not lower than a pressure threshold which is low with respect to the control threshold of the memory contained in the cell.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1977Date of Patent: March 25, 1980Assignee: La Telemecanique ElectriqueInventors: Daniel Bouteille, Andre Thomasse, Eric Petrimaux

Patent number: 4194870Abstract: Conventional installations for pumping of liquid LNG (liquefied natural gas) from a sealed tank of a marine vessel to a shore installation commonly include a pump immersed in the liquid, a riser pipe from the pump to a level above the liquid, a stop valve on the riser pipe outside the tank, and a connection to the header leading to the shore installation. With the stop valve closed, operation of the pump can cause slamming of the liquid, accelerating up the riser pipe, against the stop valve, to the extent that the valve or piping may be damaged or destroyed. The invention provides a method of operation, and apparatus to permit it to be carried out, whereby a pocket of non-liquefiable gas is formed in the riser pipe above the liquid level so that, upon operation of the pump with the stop valve closed, although LNG vapor in the riser pipe may become compressed to liquid, the pocket of gas remains to act as a compressible buffer between the rising liquid and the stop valve.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1978Date of Patent: March 25, 1980Assignee: Energy Transportation Group, Inc.Inventor: Edmund G. Tornay
