  • Patent number: 6856222
Abstract: A solenoid includes first and second armatures disposed on either side of a solenoid core. The core includes first and second sets of legs disposed on opposite sides of a central member. A drive circuit provides a first current level to cause flux to flow in a first path through the core and thereby move the first armature without substantially moving the second armature. The drive circuit can provide a second current level greater than the first current level to saturate the first path and thereby redirect flux into a second core path to move the second armature.

  • Patent number: 6367776
Abstract: A flow control device is mounted within a channel of an extrusion die, wherein the channel is defined by a base surface and a side surface normal to the base surface. The device includes a main body and an auxiliary body, wherein the main body includes a side portion that sealingly contacts the side surface of the channel when a force is exerted on the side portion, and the auxiliary body is in contact with the base surface of the channel. The device further includes a flexible membrane on a face opposite the auxiliary body which can influence the flow of material through the channel by moving in a direction perpendicular to the direction of material flow. A sealing apparatus is used to prevent leakage of material between the die and the flexible membrane. The sealing apparatus includes a gasket disposed adjacent an end surface of the membrane and means for causing the gasket to apply a force against the end surface such that the gasket seals against the membrane.

  • Patent number: 6352424
Abstract: A membrane assembly for an extrusion die includes a membrane having a deformable main portion and first and second mounting arms integral with the main portion and disposed on opposite sides thereof. The main portion includes a first face and the mounting arms extend away from the first face. The main portion, the mounting arms and a second face opposite the first face form a recess on a side of the main portion opposite the first face and a backing member is disposed in the recess between the mounting arms.

  • Patent number: 5597118
Abstract: An actuation valve for a hydraulically-operated fuel injector includes an actuator having a plunger and a spool valve coupled to the plunger. The spool valve includes a high pressure port and is operable by the actuator to selectively place the high pressure port or the low pressure port in fluid communication with an injection mechanism of the injector.

  • Patent number: 5019986
Abstract: A method of operating a vehicle engine equipped with a cruise control includes the step of operating the engine in accordance with fuel delivery limits within a first range of delivery limits when the speed of the vehicle is less than a first speed limit and the cruise control is engaged such that the engine is controlled to permit acceleration of the vehicle under substantially all operating conditions. The engine is operated in accordance with fuel delivery limits within a second range of delivery limits less than the first range of delivery limits when the speed of the vehicle is greater than the first speed limit but less than a second speed limit. The engine is operated in accordance with fuel delivery limits within a third range of delivery limits less than the second range of delivery limits when the speed of the vehicle is greater than the second speed limit whereby the engine is controlled to permit acceleration of the vehicle under less than substantially all operating conditions thereof.

  • Patent number: 4914597
Abstract: A control for and method of operating a vehicle engine (12) equipped with a cruise control (44) includes apparatus for and the steps of providing a memory (86) having stored therein first and second sets of data which control the position of a fuel rack (20) as a function of engine speed, determining when the cruise control (44) is engaged, retrieving the first set of data from the memory (86) when the cruise control (44) is engaged, retrieving the second set of data from the memory (86) when the cruise control (44) is not engaged and using the retrieved set of data to control the rate of fuel delivery to the engine (12) whereby extra power is available when the cruise control (44) is engaged to minimize downshifting. Also, fuel economy is improved and the set cruise control speed is better maintained.
