Abstract: This invention is directed to providing detecting means on a thermoplastic mold part comprising a cover and a base panel or comprising a cap enclosure and a bottle. The detecting means comprises an interlocking break-away tab which upon initial opening of the container, the tab breaks away. This is particularly useful with compact disc or cassette containers. This invention is also directed to a thermoplastic container having a pivotal hinged cover and base wherein the hinge pin is of a particular design for securing the pivotal cover and base panels at the hinge end.
Abstract: An insertable tray for converting a single compact disc (CD) container (jewel box) into a two CD jewel box, having, however, protrusions on the front and back part of the bottom side of the insertable tray. These protrusions allow automated handling and loading of the CD into the jewel box without damaging the CD on the bottom side through automatic handling and loading the CDs onto each side of the insertable tray for a standard jewel box.
Abstract: The present invention provides an insertable compact disc tray for standard single CD jewel boxes. The tray allows for conversion to multiple disc retention and has first and second sides with rosettes, for examples, for engaging and for holding first and second CDs. The tray has a shelf which fixedly attaches between first and second outer hinges of the box, and an attached leaf. A living hinge is provided between the shelf and the leaf for allowing rotational movement therebetween, with the user accessing the oppositely mounted CDs through rotation of the leaf around the living hinge. Upward rotation of the leaf allows for the insertion of a graphics card under the shelf and tray before or after the shelf and tray are inserted in the box. The shelf traps and holds the upper edge of the graphics card end and cooperates to hold the graphics card in fixed position during raising and lowering of the cover and the tray.
Abstract: The invention relates to polymer mixtures which comprise a polyester, glass fibres, a brominated polystyrene and talcum. By using milled glass fibres a polymer mixture is obtained having a high tracking index, good flame-retarding properties and a great rigidity. The invention also relates to articles formed from such polymer mixtures and to a method of preparing the polymer mixtures according to the invention.

Abstract: The invention relates to polymer mixtures comprising A. an aromatic polycarbonate and B. a polyalkylene terephthalate. It has been found that the cosmetic properties of articles obtained by injection-moulding the polymer mixture can be improved by the addition of cross-linked polymer particles having an average particle size from 1 to 30 micrometers.
Abstract: A method for thermostamping thermoplastic composites involves the steps of (a) convection heating of the composite to the glass transition temperature of the thermoplastic; (b) radio frequency heating of the composite from the glass transition temperature of the thermoplastic to the desired stamping temperature; and (c) stamping of the composite into the desired shaped article. The method provides for improved temperature uniformity throughout the composite prior to stamping thereof resulting in more uniform parts.
Abstract: Novel polyphenylene ether-polyamide compositions having improved compatibility, elongation and impact properties as well as improved processability are prepared comprising one or more polyphenylene ethers, one or more polyamides and a property improving silane derivative compound having in the molecule both (a) at least one silicon bonded to a carbon through an oxygen link and (b) at least one ethylenic carbon-carbon double bond or carbon-carbon triple bond and/or functional group selected from the group consisting of an amine group or a mercepto group, with the proviso that the functional group is not directly bonded to a silicon atom. These compositions may further comprise a polymeric impact modifier therefore and/or an inorganic reinforcing additive and/or other polymers including alkenyl aromatic polymers.
Abstract: A process for the production of butanediol from the hydrogenation of .gamma.-butyrolactone is provided. The process involves passing vaporized .gamma.-butyrolactone, water and hydrogen over a copper zinc catalyst. The incorporation of water with the .gamma.-butyrolactone and hydrogen results in increased productivity of butanediol.

Abstract: Disclosed are thermoplastic polyester composition that display increased resistance to warpage. The compositions are comprised of at least one polyester resin modified with a warpage control agent, said warpage control agent being a high molecular weight polyetherimide ester elastomer. The resulting composition is preferably reinforced with glass fibers.
Abstract: Blow moldable polyester compositions are provided. The polyester compositions contain respective amounts of thermoplastic polyester resin, salt of aliphatic polycarboxylic acid and multifunctional epoxide. The compositions exhibit suitable melt strength for blow molding thereof.
Abstract: Polyamides obtained by low pressure melt processing involving reactions of diesters of dicarboxylic acids with 1,3-diaminopropane. The polyamides are useful as molding resins.
Abstract: An amorphous polyamide having a high heat distortion temperature is produced by reacting toluenediamine with isophthalic acid, and optionally terephthalic acid, in the presence of either an aliphatic diacid, an aliphatic diamine or a mixture thereof. The polyamide provides the combined properties of a high heat distortion temperature, low shrinkage upon cooling, high levels of chemical resistance, is processable at temperatures below its degradation temperature, and has a high flexural modulus. With these combined properties the polyamide is particularly suitable for fiber reinforced automotive applications requiring exposure to excessive heat in conventional automotive paint bake ovens.

Abstract: Polysulfonecarbonate-siloxane block copolymers provide ductile resins having high heat distortion temperatures and high glass transition temperatures. The polysulfonecarbonate-siloxane block copolymers are useful as molding compounds.
Abstract: Foamed thermoplastic blends of Nylon 6,I/T and polycarbonate resin are provided which exhibit good chemical resistance. The foamed blends are useful for making foamed articles such as chemically resistant foamed sheet.
Abstract: A coextruded moisture resistant polycarbonate article has a relative thin moisture resistant, polyphthalate-carbonate layer adhered to a relatively thick aromatic polycarbonate corelayer. The coextruded article has the high degree of transparency of aromatic polycarbonates and the moisture resistance and haze resistance of polyphthalate-carbonate. Coextruded sheet and film of the present invention may be subsequently thermoformed without losses in the desirable properties thereof.
