Patent number: 6404130Abstract: The metal halide lamp with a ceramic discharge vessel (4) has sealing means at its two ends (6), an electrically conductive lead-through (9, 10; 30) being guided through these means in a vacuum-tight manner, to which lead-through an electrode (14) with a shank (15) is attached, which electrode projects into the interior of the discharge vessel. At least a front part, which faces toward the discharge, is designed as a component made from electrically conductive cermet which comprises a halide-resistant metallic phase and a ceramic phase of a ceramic base material. The fill comprises at least one halide of a rare-earth metal. At least on the front side of the component, at least part of the ceramic phase comprises the combination of the ceramic base material and one or more rare-earth metal oxides.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2000Date of Patent: June 11, 2002Assignee: Patent-Treuhand-Gesellschaft fuer elektrische Gluehlampen mbHInventor: Reiner-Joachim Dinter

Patent number: 6218780Abstract: Each electrode comprises a shaft (6) and a head (5), the shaft being sealed in a vacuum-tight fashion in each case in an end region (2, 22) of the discharge vessel. At least one electrode is cooled by virtue of the fact that its shaft contains a cooling tube system in which a coolant (11) circulates. Said cooling tube system is surrounded at a spacing by an additional enveloping tube (9, 16), the interspace (10, 20) between the enveloping tube and cooling tube system being fitted with a means of thermal insulation.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1998Date of Patent: April 17, 2001Assignee: Patent-Truehand-Gesellschaft fuer elektrische Gluelampen mbHInventors: Dietmar Ehrlichmann, Dieter Franke

Patent number: 5712531Abstract: The invention concerns high-pressure discharge lamps, whose electrodes have a sintered compact (5) containing lanthanum oxide acting as an electron emitter, and this compact is surrounded by an electrode coil (6). Sintered compact (5) contains at least 90 weight % lanthanum oxide. In this way, a high thermal stability of sintered compact (5) and a good ignition performance of the lamp are assured with only negligible blackening of the discharge vessel over the service life of the lamp.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1996Date of Patent: January 27, 1998Assignee: Patent - Truehand - Gesellshaft fuer electrishe Gluelampen mbHInventors: Albert Rademacher, Ulrich Rosner

Patent number: 4648951Abstract: A simple photoionization technique for enriching a particular isotope of mercury in a naturally-occurring mixture employing an isotopically pure radiation source separately optimized for 253.7 nm. and 404.7 nm. emission, respectively. A vessel is provided for containing the naturally occurring mercury. This vessel may be part of either a flow or closed system. The radiation source brings the isotope from the 6.sup.1 S.sub.0 ground state to the 6.sup.3 P.sub.1 state wherein the nitrogen gas deactivates the isotope to bring the isotope to the long-lived 6.sup.3 P.sub.0 state. Thereafter, the source optimized at 404.7 nm. brings the isotope to the 7.sup.3 S.sub.1 state. At this level the atom may be easily photoionized either by a laser or a powerful visible incoherent radiation source.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1983Date of Patent: March 10, 1987Assignee: GTE Products CorporationInventor: Jakob Maya
