  • Patent number: 4636735
Abstract: Clocked control signals are applied from a source to the input of delay means having a plurality of successive signal takeoff points, with the delay between successive ones of said takeoff points being the same (e.g., a period at the signal clocking frequency, f.sub.CL). An "and" gate is provided with a plurality of inputs equal in number to the plurality of takeoff points. Each takeoff point is linked by a signal path to a respectively different one of the "and" gate inputs. A succession of two-input "or" gates is provided, with one input of each "or" gate coupled to receive the output of the "and" gate. The last of the succession of "or" gates is coupled to a control signal output terminal. The output of each of the remainder of said succession is coupled via a respectively different one of a plurality of similar delay devices to the other input of the next succeeding one of said succession of "or" gates. Each of the delay devices imparts a delay equal to a period at f.sub.CL.

  • Patent number: 4634984
Abstract: One-bit stream of clocked control information is applied to the input of delay means, having a succession of signal takeoff points, with the delay between successive takeoff points being the same (e.g., twice a period at the clocking frequency, f.sub.CL). Each takeoff point is linked to a respectively different input of an "and" gate. The "and" gate output is coupled to one input of a succession of two-input "or" gates, with the other input of each of said "or" gates coupled to the output of an associated one of a plurality of delay devices, each of the latter imparting the same delay (e.g., corresponding to a period of f.sub.CL). The output of the last of the succession of "or" gates is coupled to a control signal output terminal. The output of each of the remainder of the succession is coupled to the other input of the next succeeding "or" gate in the succession.

  • Patent number: 4628346
Abstract: In a color television receiver, color reference oscillations, developed by a VCO under AFPC loop control, are supplied to a variable phase shifter. A phase detector, responsive to the phase shifter output and to the burst component of received color television signals, develops a control voltage indicative of the phase relationship therebetween at its output terminal. Application of the control voltage to a control voltage input terminal of the phase shifter completes a servo control loop for maintaining the phase of the shifter's output in a predetermined relationship with the burst phase. A manual hue control potentiometer has an adjustable tap connected to the phase detector output terminal in such manner that tap adjustment alters voltage at control voltage input terminal while concomitantly altering servo loop gain.

  • Patent number: 4620133
Abstract: Compact deflection yoke in self-converging display system encircles adjoining segments of neck and funnel sectons of color picture tube having close beam spacing (200 mils) in electron gun to achieve low S-spacing dimension between converging beams in deflection center plane. Neck diameter is sufficiently large (1145 mils) to accommodate main focusing lens having major transverse dimension more than three and half times the beam spacing in the electron gun. Main focusing lens is formed between final focus electrodes having recessed apertures at juxtaposed ends. Walls of successive recesses have "racetrack"-like and "dogbone"-like contours. Asymmetric beam forming lenses provide each beam traversing the main focusing lens with asymmetric cross-section having relatively reduced vertical dimension.

  • Patent number: 4618882
Abstract: In a color TV receiver, a first digital signal of "m" bits represents high frequency component of combed luminance signal, and a second digital signal of "m" bits represents combed chrominance component. The "k" most significant bits of the first signal (where "k" is less than "m") are fed to respective inputs of a first "or" gate, while the "j" most significant bits of the second signal (where "j" is less than, or equal to, "m") are fed to respective inputs of a second "or" gate. The "or" gate outputs are fed, without delay difference, to inputs of a first "and" gate, and are fed, with a delay difference of 90.degree. at color subcarrier frequency, to inputs of a second "and" gate. Sequence recognition apparatus, responsive to the outputs of both "and" gates, develops a correlation indication in response to existence of predetermined sequences of outputs from one or both "and" gates.

  • Patent number: 4617587
Abstract: Non-inverting amplifier, with bandpass filter in regenerative feedback path, forms color reference oscillator in a color TV receiver. Phase shift circuit, responsive to an oscillator output, supplies signals to a first phase shifted signal amplifier, which shares a load with the non-inverting amplifier, and is subject to control by complementary outputs of a phase comparator functioning to compare the phase of an oscillator output with the phase of incoming color synchronizing bursts. A voltage comparator, responsive to the respective phase comparator outputs, is periodically enabled by field rate keying pulses. The voltage comparator output controls the charging or discharging of a capacitor during the keying intervals.

  • Patent number: 4616254
Abstract: Control signal generator is responsive to the output of a pair of correlation indicators. One correlation indicator provides an indication of the presence or absence of correlation between high frequency components derived without difference in delay from the respective luminance and chrominance outputs of a color TV receiver's comb filter system. The other correlation indicator provides an indication of the presence or absence of correlation between high frequency components derived with a difference in delay from the respective comb filter outputs, the delay difference corresponding to a quarter period at the nominal color subcarrier frequency. Control signal is developed in response to a correlation indication by either or both of the indicators. The luminance output of the comb filter is subjected to high frequency component removal during control signal development.

  • Patent number: 4611240
Abstract: In a color TV receiver, a color AFPC loop, responsive to line rate synchronizing bursts of subcarrier frequency derived from the output of a first of a pair of cascaded chrominance signal amplifiers, controls the frequency and phase of an output of a VCO. The VCO output is passed through a variable phase shifter external to the AFPC loop to develop reference oscillations for use by color demodulators. Control of the variable phase shifter is effected by the output of a phase detector which compares the phases of (a) an output of the variable phase shifter and (b) line rate synchronizing bursts derived from an output of the second chrominance signal amplifier.

  • Patent number: 4583121
Abstract: In a TV receiver, a line-rate gating pulse generator includes a source of line-rate timing pulses of "backporch" timing relative to the horizontal blanking intervals of received TV signals. Normally, the time constant of a capacitor charging circuit, enabled by the leading edge of each timing pulse, is determinative of a fixed, finite width for output gating pulses which are generated in response to the timing pulses. However, during the appearance of a field-rate pulse (e.g., vertical drive pulse), the charging circuit is altered such as to establish a zero width for the output gating pulses, resulting in a desired field-rate blanking of the line-rate gating pulse output.

  • Patent number: 4580068
Abstract: First and second transistors of the same conductivity type have their emitter-collector paths serially disposed across a DC operating potential source, with the emitter electrode of the first transistor directly connected to the collector electrode of the second transistor and to an output terminal. First and second emitter-followers have inputs commonly connected via a resistor to a reference point. The output of the first emitter-follower directly drives the base electrode of the first transistor, while the base electrode of the second transistor is rendered responsive to the output of the second emitter-follower. A control transistor is commonly connected to the inputs of the emitter-followers so as to disable said emitter-followers and render both of said first and second transitors non-conductive when said control transistor is conducting, and to enable said emitter-followers and render both of said first and second transistors conducting when control transistor is cut off.

  • Patent number: 4558355
Abstract: In a color TV receiver incorporating automatic kinescope bias (AKB) control circuits, a first train of monolevel pulses with timing suitable for retrace blanking purposes and a second train of monolevel pulses with "backporch" timing appropriate for burst gating purposes are applied to a circuit serving to generate at a first terminal a train of bilevel pulses exhibiting a first voltage level during periods of overlapping of the pulses of the first and second trains, and exhibiting a second, lesser voltage level during the remaining, non-overlapping portions of the pulses of the first train. A resistor interconnects the first terminal with a second terminal. A keyed voltage source, responsive to a third train of monolevel pulses timed to indicate recurring kinescope bias control intervals, develops a voltage of a third level, intermediate the first and second voltage levels, at the second terminal during the recurring control intervals.

  • Patent number: 4554577
Abstract: DC stabilization system for a color TV receiver includes three control loops, each including a keyed comparator for comparing a respectively different one of a set of blue, green and red color signals with a common reference voltage during keying periods determined by line rate keying of "backporch" timing pulses. The output of the keyed comparator responding to the blue signal adjusts the DC level of a luminance signal component used in color signal formation. The output of the keyed comparator responding to the red signal adjusts the DC level of an I color-difference signal component used for color signal formation. The output of the keyed comparator responding to the green signal adjusts the DC level of a Q color-difference signal used for color signal formation. The line rate keying pulse source is subject to field-rate blanking to preclude comparator keying during significant portion of received signal's vertical sync interval.

  • Patent number: 4549202
Abstract: A color TV receiver is provided with an encoding/decoding system for a trilevel sandcastle pulse train, exhibiting a middle pulse level during recurring kinescope bias control intervals, and comprising excursions between a base level, a low pulse level, and a high pulse level during periods outside said kinescope bias control intervals. The system's decoder includes a trio of voltage comparators for comparing incoming sandcastle pulses with respective reference voltages derived from three different intermediate points on a common voltage divider connected across the terminals of a DC supply. The system's encoder includes keyed means for determining the middle pulse level of the trilevel sandcastle pulse train in accordance with the output of a second voltage divider connected across the same DC supply as the first voltage divider. An output of a third, selectively enabled, voltage divider, connected across the same DC supply as the first and second voltage dividers, is determinative of said low pulse level.

  • Patent number: 4516153
Abstract: In a color TV receiver, a composite video signal processing circuit serves to prepare the signal input to a CCD comb filter, and includes a transistor phase splitter with a first load resistor connected to the transistor's collector electrode and a second load resistor connected to the transistor's emitter electrode. A reactance of a first sign couples the collector electrode to an output terminal, while a reactance of the opposite sign couples the emitter electrode to the same output terminal. A capacitor between the transistor's collector and base electrodes provides a negative feedback path for signal components. Parameter values are selected to provide the processing circuit with a peak response at a frequency above the frequency band occupied by the composite video signals. Processing circuit provides a substantially constant group delay for signal frequencies throughout the band, while compensating for decline at high signal frequencies of IF amplifier's amplitude-versus-frequency characteristic.

  • Patent number: 4509080
Abstract: In the luminance channel of a color TV receiver, a horizontal peaking signal representative of the difference between delayed and undelayed luminance signals is subject to coring, with the level of coring subject to variation. Residual peaking signal remaining after core cancellation, is subject to gain controlled signal translation, and then combined with luminance signal to form peaked luminance signal. Frequency selective amplifier, responsive to peaked luminance signal, supplies its output to peak detector. Control voltage developed by peak detector adjusts gain of peaking signal translator in sense opposing amplitude variations of detector input, providing compensatory gain variations when coring level changes affect residual peaking signal amplitude.

  • Patent number: 4500910
Abstract: Quadrature-related outputs of synchronized color reference oscillator at +(R-Y) and +(B-Y) phases are applied to a first matrix to develop a first matrixed signal of a third intermediate phase. Additional matrixing operations on the oscillator outputs develop second and third matrixed signals of different phases symmetrically disposed about the third phase. A differential amplifier, of substantially fixed gain, with differential inputs respectively responsive to the second and third matrixed signals, develops a fourth matrixed signal, with a phase in quadrature relation with said third phase, across an output load. The reference signal input for a demodulator is derived from signals appearing across said output load.
