  • Patent number: 6847728
Abstract: A method of generating a dynamic depth map for a sequence of images from multiple cameras models a scene as a collection of 3D piecewise planar surface patches induced by color based image segmentation. This representation is continuously estimated using an incremental formulation in which the 3D geometric, motion, and global visibility constraints are enforced over space and time. The proposed algorithm optimizes a cost function that incorporates the spatial color consistency constraint and a smooth scene motion model.

  • Patent number: 6826292
Abstract: A system that tracks one or more moving objects in a sequence of video images employs a dynamic layer representation to represent the objects that are being tracked. The system concurrently estimates three components of the dynamic layer representation—layer segmentation, motion, and appearance—over time in a maximum a posteriori (MAP) framework. In order to enforce a global shape constraint and to maintain the layer segmentation over time, the subject invention imposes a prior constraint on parametric segmentation. In addition, the system uses a generalized Expectation-Maximization (EM) algorithm to compute an optimal solution. The system uses an object state that consists of representations of motion, appearance and ownership masks. The system applies a constant appearance model across multiple images in the video stream.

  • Patent number: 6802313
Abstract: Apparatus and a concomitant method for electrostatically depositing select doses of medicament powder at select locations on a substrate. Specifically, the apparatus contains a charged particle emitter for generating charged particles that charge a predefined region of a substrate and a charge accumulation control circuit for computing the amount of charge accumulated upon the substrate and deactivating the emitter when a selected quantity of charge has accumulated. Additionally, a triboelectric charging apparatus charges the medicament powder and forms a charged medicament cloud proximate the charged region of the substrate. The medicament particles within the medicament cloud electrostatically adhere to the charged region. The quantity of charge accumulated on the substrate at the predefined region and the charge-to-mass ratio of the medicament powder in the cloud control the amount (dose) of medicament deposited and retained by the substrate.

  • Patent number: 6785289
Abstract: A method and concomitant apparatus for incorporating one or more relatively low bitrate information streams (e.g., MPEG) into a relatively high bitrate information stream (e.g., SDTI) in a manner aligning low bitrate sub-stream splice entrance points and splice exit points within the frame boundaries of the high bitrate information stream. In this manner, the splicing of the relatively high bitrate information stream at appropriate In Frames and Out Frames will provide relatively seamless splicing of information sub-streams. The packing and unpacking methods are implemented such that the temporal offset between elementary streams carried within relatively low bitrate information stream is removed, i.e., the elementary streams are synchronized.

  • Patent number: 6785338
Abstract: Compression-related information is used to constrain the selection and control of video imagery and content used to produce one or more uncompressed video streams for subsequent compression processing. Rather than taking an uncompressed video stream “as is” for compression processing, characteristics of compression processing are taken into consideration during the video production stage when the uncompressed video stream is generated. Different types of constraints include “intra-frame” constraints that constrain video content within a frame of a video stream, “inter-frame” constraints that constrain video content from frame to frame within a video stream, and “inter-stream” constraints that constrain video content across different video streams. Two or more different constraints and two or more different types of constraints may be applied simultaneously. The compression-related information may be “static” (e.g.
